Wonderful Film
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie depicts the essence of the Mountain Man, Trapper of the Northwest of the 1800's and early 1900's. Hugh Glass was a childhood hero of mine, a mentor of mine in my early years. I was inspired by reading books about his life hunting, fish, trap and become a true outdoors-man. I dreamed of moving to Alaska or the Northwest U.S. and live as he and many others did. I managed to do everything except to move. Still very inspiring and a very real depiction of the life and times of the Mountain Man.

Could be Historical
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The effort the director went through to bring this story to life was well rewarded. Well cast with great acting by all the characters. Get some popcorn and the drink of choice and settle in for intense storytelling. The costumes and sets along with actual nature brings this story right into your home. Do your homework to see what they had to go through to make this movie and you will appreciate it even more. This is one of the great movies ever made in my opinion and should not be missed.

Amazing!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not since Last of the Mohicans have I seen a film as meticulously and authentically made. A definite slow burn with a novel like quality that wants the viewer to absorb instead of being bombarded. Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy are magnificent here. Compliments not given lightly. Both Oscar worthy performances though it's Leonardo whom won out. Rightly so. Amazing film with beautiful picture and fantastic special features make this an easy one to recommend. Buy!

Kept me on the edge until the last minute
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DiCaprio truly deserves the Oscar for this performance. I always liked his movies showing such a variety of actors, but this is different in that he mostly expresses himself just with gestures and expressions. Hardy was also excellent playing a totally different character than usual. A must see movie not only for the story and acting, but also the beautiful landscapes and amazing camera angles that make you feel as if you were right with them. Also the bonus features are all worth while watching.

An Aesthetic Joyride.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Revenant is dripping with atmosphere, gloom, despair and determination unlike the majority of its contemporaries and it becomes quite a journey as a result. The aesthetic of the movie is definitely brooding and this is not the sort of film I'd recommended for a first date but if you're looking to lose yourself amidst the throes of revenge and impenetrable winter, you're in for something you won't soon forget. Highly recommended.

Intense movie. Great UHD
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an incredibly well done and intense movie from start to finish. Warning - there's a bear in this movie. Warning #2 - don't ever go into the woods. Just stay at home and watch movies. I sprained my ankle while walking to my neighbor's house. So, if I see a bear in the woods, then I'm done. I got this mainly to test out my Xbox One S' ability to play UHD blurays with HDR on my Samsung JU7500. I was not disappointed. It played without issue and with stunning detail.

Fantastic film
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wasn't sure what to expect when I initially saw the trailer for this film, and I never got around to see it in theaters, but when it came out on blu-ray I decided to give it a shot. Glad I did, it was a great film filled with great actors and a great plot. I tend to stay away from 3 hour films, but I am glad I didn't make that choice. Also, the special features for how it was made are pretty much a documentary in and of themselves, so its like a second film, also worth watching.

Epic performances in an epic film
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Leonardo Dicaprio has done several outstanding performances over his career. I have seen nearly all of them. Several were academy award worthy. Leo took this performance to a new level. One could argue one of the best ever for an actor. This review makes me sound like his number one fan. I am not. It's just that good. Tom Hardy also deserves an honorable mention here also. He is quite convincing in his role. It took me awhile to recognize him the first time I saw this film.

Oscar Winner
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just bought the 4K version of the Revenant as I just received my OPPO Digital 4K player to go along with a 2 year old 55" Sony XBR 4K TV. Words can not really describe how perfect this movie is to me. The cinematography is extraordinary. The OPPO player does a fantastic job of upscaling the Blu Ray disc that I did not see much of an improvement playing the 4K disc. That being said I still am tweaking a few of the video adjustments. AN AWESOME FLICK!!

Excellent Movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Simply put, The Revenant is a masterpiece. Cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki (Gravity, Birdman) succeeded, once again, in creating a beautiful work of art. In my humble opinion, I believe he deserves his third Academy Award in a row. Parents Guide: As you should expect with an R-rating, The Revenant does contain some content that you may find offensive. All-in-all, the content is used realistically, and is not enhanced like in many Hollywood productions.

Great acting and a gritty, entertaining film.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I enjoy getting involved with a film, identifying with the characters. DiCaprio, Hardy and the other actors immerse you into the story of 1800s mountain man survival. It is a bit unrealistic (who could survive being that close to death in those conditions) but few people watch a movie for realism. I dug it. I will watch it many times over the years, as I do Jeremiah Johnson, A Man Called Horse, Unforgiven, Death Hunt, even Little Big Man, and many others of that genre.

Reference-Quality 4K Release
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This release of The Revenant is probably the most impressive in my collection. It looks better than real-life on my 4K TV. It should be noted that the Blu Ray only includes one making of documentary as it’s only special feature, I haven’t gotten around to watching that yet though.

Great Cinematography & Audio
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The movie isn't for everyone due to the graphic scenes, however, I understand why it won an Oscar for its filming....quite incredible. If you get the opportunity to watch on a quality home theater you are really drawn into the film. The audio is top notch also. I am not sure that this is the film that I would have given the Oscar to DiCaprio as he didn't have to act much, but, he probably deserved it for others that he didn't get it so it all washes out!

Greatest filmmaking on blu ray
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Revenant is a movie that is rewatchable and is a great movie to show to your guests , great conversation starter, as was loosely based on a true story. The cinematography and sound are top notch, it's good to see native Americans Indians actually portraying Indians. It actually lends itself to currents events, as Europeans where encroaching onto the American Indian Territories and ruining the ecosystem by killing off the wildlife for profit.

Simply Stunning
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie is simply stunning. The setting is a character itself, and the cinematography is amazing in bringing that character to life - the visuals, and visual motifs - really make the movie, reinforcing key themes. Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy are both amazing in their roles, particularly given how little dialogue there is for long stretches of the film. It's actually pretty ironic that a movie with such brutality and violence is so beautiful.

Leo's best role yet, and that's saying alot!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review."The Revenant" is easily the best movie I've seen in some time. Based on a true story, Leo's charactar and his half indian son go along with a group of men into the wilderness to be their guide as they collect pelts. Set in the early 1800's, needless to say their are indians who are not wanting to be friends everywhere. His charactar Hugh Glass keeps his wits about him no matter what is thrown his way. Definitely worth buying for the landscapes alone.

UHD Reference quality
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The movie is very good. I can see why Leo won his award for this role. But this review will be about the picture quality. Complete reference material. For those who have a 4k/HDR/WCG TV, this is the movie to use to showcase the picture. Landscape scenery is breathtaking. Detail is phenomenal. Overall, one of the most amazing pictures I've seen. The audio quality is pretty good too. But it wouldn't be one to showcase surround setup.
