    Outstanding Directing, Cinematics and Acting!

**Three Golden Globe Awards for The Revenant.** Congratulations to Inarritu for his two Golden Globe awards for the Revenant, he took home "Best Motion Picture – Drama" and "Best Director", while Leonardo DiCaprio won "Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama" The Oscar's are next Leo, go get it! I'm not going to state the synopsis or any details about this film as there are probably countless reviews on IMDB and so forth! I'd like to start off by saying when i first seen this film's trailer, i already knew it was going to be an EPIC adventure of a film regardless if it is a remake, and a great remake it was! Outstanding director Alejandro González Iñárritu's film "the Revenant" is leaps and bounds better than the original film "the man in the wilderness"! This film not only exceeds in executing a savage and wild story but does it with such an artsy an breathtaking style! The landscape and visuals are top notch work, not to mention they filmed this with pretty much no set and with all natural lighting during freezing conditions! That right there is an accomplishment in itself, and they nailed it superbly! Big props to cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki for such great camera work! More on that in a bit! Leonardo DiCaprio as always delivers a great performance and makes you feel as if you're in his shoes going through all that chaos and cruelty people in the 1800's would have gone through, not to mention the un-merciful wilderness! Tom Hardy was equally exceptional acting as a villain! You could feel the savageness through his performance! Hair raising emotions on his part! The key factor in this film was also the great visual eye of Cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki who like i stated used only natural lighting and did superb "long-shots" with no cut-scenes which knocked you right off of your feet! The intro of the film got me so hyped! Being a photographer and a somewhat inspired short video hobbyist, i could only dream of being as great as Mr. Lubezki! Such a great inspiration to us amateurs! Out of this world directing from Inarritu! Breathtaking cinematics by Cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki! Superb acting performance by DiCaprio and of course Tom Hardy, not to mention Domhnall Gleeson who did an amazing job as well! This is the type of film you must see in the theaters, the experience is just heart pounding and exciting! I can't wait for this to come out on Blu-ray! I will definitely be the first to grab me a copy! -Scott S.

    The Revenant on Blu Ray

All of my many Blue Ray reviews focus solely upon the actual quality of the film from Standard Def DVD quality to the higher standard set for Blu Ray. Summaries of the plot and opinions of the story line and acting can be found in the majority of the other reviews so I do not want to be redundant. My rating is based solely upon the Blue Ray disc's video and audio quality and not the quality of the movie itself. Keep in mind, however, that the quality of what you see and hear is also dependent upon the quality of the TV monitor you are watching on as well as the home theater set up you are using. The monitor I use is a fairly new Panasonic ZT 65" plasma and the amps, speakers, cables, OPPO 103 BluRay player and AVM-60 7.1 Atmos enabled Surround Processor I use are hi end esoteric gear to provide me with a more realistic and objective perspective. The Oppo player is not enabled to transcode Atmos audio so it will default to the next best audio coded, in this case, DTS HD MA 7.1 I am not trying to be a snob here, but just pointing out that what you see and hear is very dependent upon the quality of the gear you are using. Since there are several version releases, this one is based upon the 10th Anniversary release. I do not know if it is the extended version or not as the cover jacket does not say that it is. There are 2 discs with the 2nd disc holding the special features. VIDEO QUALITY...... The film was originally noted for having been shot under totally ambient light conditions and it shows, but in a positive way. This does not mean that there wasn't any color grading. As such, the color grading is quite natural though slightly desaturated which fits the environment of the film itself. Skin tones did appear normal and natural with no popping colors anywhere. No artifacting could be noted throughout the film. Contrast, when a scene called for it was very present but only then since the film takes place outdoors in very grey weather which, naturally, would obscure hard contrasting features or items. All in all, the video presentation was an A-. AUDIO QUALITY.... Even with a 7.1 DTS HD MA lossless codec, the audio surpassed my expectations. There was wonderful use of the surround speakers for individual audio foley effects with a bird from the left rear and the wind from the right and left sides. In fact, since there is minimal use of dialogue through much of the film, ambient audio done right as it has been in this release, is all the more important. Your LFE channel has its moments for somewhat deep bass but I wouldn't call it a bass demo track. That aside, the audio editing is excellent and deserves an A+ EXTRAS..... Tons of them regarding many segments of 'The Making Of' style of extras. I haven't watched them all yet but none appeared to be a waste of time. The download to UV went smoothly which was a surprise, but I wish I could have use iTunes as an alternative option. I do hope this review has been of some help. Thanks for reading.

This movie is gorgeous. The scenery and action look great. The story is good but some might have an issue of it due to the protagonist and how the story runs it's course. Otherwise if you want a movie to showcase your home theater set with spectacular view this is it.

The Revenant is an outstanding film that I think everyone needs to watch at least once. The cast features Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleason and Will Poulter who are all amazing in the film. The cinematography is beautiful thanks to Emmanuel Lubezki. One of the best cinematographers of all-time! The story is good and the action scenes are great. Also, it's a beautiful film to watch in 4K!

    Oscar Winning Performance

I told many people that Leonardo DiCaprio acted better in this movie than he did did in The Wolf of Wall Street, and that's saying a lot, and people thought I was crazy because of how amazing he did in that movie. This movie isn't as action packed as many hoped it would be but it tells the tale of Man vs. Nature and the picture of this movie was phenomenal. During some parts of the movie you're amazed by how they managed to get some of the shots they got. If you love Leonardo DiCaprio like I do, I highly recommend this movie. Be mindful that's its pretty long, about 2 and a half hours long. Worth the watch!

    An "immersive" highly realistic event!

The story-line is accompanied by very realistic sound-effects, striking cinematography that captures the “wildness” of the great outdoors, and acting that is nothing short of exceptional – this film is an “immersive” highly realistic event! This is more than a creditable story of pure, bruit survival in a wilderness high mountain winter environment – Hugh Glass is continually fighting the elements, Indians, a cold winter and his fellow-man as-well-as the natural predators. The moving-pictures physically and rugged wilderness setting was completely captured by this film – it literally transfers the audience to early 19th Century Western America and it captures the triumph of the Human spirit. Every scene is a powerful experience as-well-as a superb pictorial event. The film is both a spiritual and a transformative experience that will be remembered – you will be “called” back to it often for another second viewing.

This is a first for me, giving DiCaprio 5 Stars

Of the extensive DiCaprio career, I have only raved about a couple of his movies. Now I have one more. This is an extremely violent and grotesque movie with its scenes of gore, killing and creative ways to keep from getting hypothermia. In the same vein, it manages to be one of the most beautifully shot movies I have ever seen. I have been in production for many years and after hearing how this movie was shot, I had to watch it. It has breathtakingly realistic scenes that are moving and stark with a layer of art that is not easy to pull off.

I took a chance and bought The Revenant just based on the preview and the positive reviews it was getting. Luckily, I don't regret buying this movie for a second. Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, and all of the actor's did an incredible job. The director did an amazing job as well. I was genuinely blown away by this movie. The special effects were incredible as well. The scene where the bear attacks Leonardo's character was extremely brutal and realistic.

This film was amazing. Cinematography, directing, acting...everything. A truly memorable film-going experience and I am super pumped to own it on Blu-Ray. Dicaprio's Academy Award was well deserved, but TOM HARDY was absolutely ROBBED in the supporting actor category as he stole the show. He is always awesome. Great film. I'm looking forward to multiple viewings :)

Like everyone recommended, this was my first choice when I thought of buying 4k disc for by XBOX ONE S for KU6290 TV. Movie plays beautifully but if you really want to cross check for yourself, I suggest to play the blu-ray version also before and after the 4k version. You will appreciate the real beauty only then. Must buy for 4k player owners.

    Phenomenal looking Film

Leonardo wins his first (and finally) an Oscar for a performance that is pretty brutal but in the end very satisfying. To be honest, I find the film to be okay, the beginning and ending along with the bear scene are amazing. But the middle of the film in my opinions and definitely drags out, the film could have trimmed 15-30mins of the film and I probably would have enjoyed it more. Bluray wise, it's GORGEOUS dear lord it's definitely one of the best thanks to the director and his cinematography which they won awards for this film and definitely earned it

I like my action films and this had plenty of action and a little mystery it was based on a real person so I wanted to see how close it was to fact. The scene with the bear won't let you down. Hugh Glass (DiCaprio) was really lucky. There were a couple of scenes that I disagreed with but they still didn't distract from the movie.

The panoramic scenes are amazing and inspiring to travel. It gives us a view into how business was conducted before the Barons institutionalized white collar crime as an evil necessity. Kudos to DiCaprio and Hardy, who pushed method acting to an extreme, literally.

OMG this film is so freaking good!!! Leo and Tom were amazing as fur trappers in Canada trapped by the land, the first nation people's (Canadians version of native Americans ). The bear fight scene with Leo is BRUTAL that's all I can say! Tom hardy knows how to play the heartless villain so well.
