Wow, the Ridge is minimalist. I don't hate it but it takes a change in mentality. Most guys are used to a filing cabinet in their back pocket. You have to take the hard look and decide if that's necessary. You can really reduce everything to mostly be in this wallet. It holds 12 cards! At max I needed 7 cards. It's super lite and compact. Ideally this goes in your front pocket for safety. I needed this to still be in my back pocket due to keys and phone. This was such a relief on my back than I constantly panicked that my wallet had fallen out. It is very sturdy and the expansion is controlled by elastic bands. I liked that this had built in RFID blocking. Where this didn't fit into my mentality is when I'd be given restaurant cards that are larger than credit cards, small grocery cards, and paper insurance cards. I think that there are ways to get around these cases but that's where the mentality kicks in. For every day typical use this was amazing. I think this product does everything as advertised. I would recommend this on the caveat that you have to be ready to not carry everything you need all the time. It's hard to beat a life time warranty on something that gets the job done.

Wallets, bags/backpacks, and planners (for whatever reason) are all items that I love to buy. I LOVE wallets, especially low-profile, slim or modern/minimalist varieties. My main wallet is from a company called Ekster, who has a wallet product that seems to be a really great fit for me. But, you can't get into the minimalist wallet game without at least acknowledging The Ridge Wallet...they've been around for some time, and I've been seeing these wallets in the wild for years now. The Ridge Wallet appeals because of its simple but rugged design. The aluminum exterior is cool to the touch, and is substantial enough in weight that it feels great in the hands without being too heavy. The Ridge has the same footprint as a typical credit card, and has elastic straps that are said to not stretch out over time. Cards slide into and out of the wallet with ease thanks to beveled plastic edges on the interior of the wallet, the cash strap on the outside is made with the same elastic strapping used for the main wallet and has an embossed Ridge logo on a stainless steel plate through which the elastic loops. If you've spent any time at all shopping minimalist wallets, you know the importance on finding something that fits your *specific* number of cards that you tend to carry around-- and that number is typically not something that allows for much variation (consider Apple's Magsafe wallet, which only holds three non-embossed, or two embossed, cards). That's not the case with the Ridge-- it looks and operates just as well with two cards as it does with 8, and also allows for other non-card items to be stored (like folded bills or insurance cards), provided those items fit within the aforementioned footprint. Good wallets are worth spending a little money on, and the Ridge retails for just under $100. Given the quality (these things can literally last for decades), that's a fair price to ask-- and for a lot of people it's going to be a good fit. But for me, it just doesn't work. Don't get me wrong-- I have been enamored with the Ridge Wallet for years and have almost purchased it many times. I like that you can customize the wallet when buying direct, swapping out the cash strap for a money clip, or adding additional accessories like Airtag holders or coin trays. And it looks awesome. And it takes up very little space...it's easily 25% smaller than my existing wallet, which is impressively small. But a good wallet is more than form and design--it's also about function. A wallet's primary purpose is to hold a thing when you don't need it, and present it when you do. The holding part needs to work just as well as the presenting part... but in the case of The Ridge, it's just not a smooth operation. Credit cards get worn edges and scratched surfaces over time, causing points of friction when interacting with the Ridge. It's not so easy to remove one card, or even fan out all your cards as the videos suggest you can, because most people don't have a wallet filled with brand new cards. My inability to work with the Ridge quickly is ultimately the thing that will keep me from sticking with it. What's awesome about the Ridge is that they are expanding their footprint to physical retail locations, versus just being online-- and that's really great. I'd like to see the same customization options available in store, as well as some sort of price matching agreement keeping the prices the same between Best Buy and the Ridge direct. I think this can be a good wallet for a lot of people. It's not my favorite, but I'm also a snob when it comes to most things and I'm very picky. I love minimalist wallets and the Ridge has created a compelling product here, so while I might recommend this to a friend, it's not something that has an especially high rating because the operation of the wallet just isn't smooth enough for me.

I’ve been wanting to upgrade and consolidate my wallet from the traditional bifold/trifold wallets of yester-year and recently got my hands on the Ridge aluminum wallet in the sleek gun metal color, complete with a cash strap. I wanted to love this wallet and while it has some attractive features, there are a couple of aspects that it has fell short and may not make it the perfect fit for everyone. Let's start with the positives. The aluminum construction is sturdy and gives the wallet a premium feel. The gun metal color adds a touch of sophistication, making it a stylish accessory. The inclusion of a cash strap is a convenient feature for those who prefer carrying some bills alongside their cards. The wallet, being very slim and sleek, fits very easily in any pocket in your jeans, vest, shirt, or even a small strap bag. I have enjoyed slipping the wallet in and out of various pockets and not feeling uncomfortable wherever I placed it. However, the design of the elastic webbed straps, while innovative and giving a bit of flexibility for adding multiple cards, can be a bit tricky for certain card types. The wallet may not be the most accommodating for paper cards, as the straps can make it a bit cumbersome to slide them in and out having the corner of the cards get caught and poking through. This is something to consider if you have a lot of business cards or any other type of cards that aren't the standard plastic variety. Additionally, fanning out the cards can be a bit challenging due to the elastic webbing. If you're used to quickly flipping through your cards, you might find this process a bit less seamless than with a traditional wallet. That being said, if you primarily use standard plastic cards and appreciate the modern, minimalist design, the Ridge aluminum wallet could still be a great choice. The durability and RFID-blocking capabilities are added bonuses for those who prioritize security and longevity in their wallet. In conclusion, the Ridge aluminum wallet in gun metal with a cash strap is a solid choice with a premium feel and innovative design. While it may not be the best fit for paper cards and can make fanning out cards a bit challenging, its durability and sleek appearance make it a compelling option for those who prioritize style and security in a minimalist wallet.

I’ve been carrying a leather wallet for about 60 years, mostly in my back pocket, and at times I’m sure it’s been so stuffed that I’d get sore from sitting on it. Lately I’ve tended to trim it down to just cards and cash, but the size of the leather wallet itself made it inconvenient to carry in a front pocket. So I’ve been considering some sort of “minimal” wallet since they first came out. The Ridge certainly appeared to be the minimalist among minimalist wallets and I finally decided to give it a try. Opening the box, it’s obvious that there’s not much to it: a couple of metal plates held together with elastic. Of course, there’s more to its design than that, but it certainly is simple. Also included is a very small Torx screwdriver in case you need to disassemble it. On this model, there is also an external elastic band for holding down cash. There are really no usage instructions included but there is a video made by Ridge on Youtube that demos all the features. The specs say that it’s designed for a max of 12 cards. My current wallet contains 2-3 credit cards, my driver’s license, and a few thin medical cards, so I’m not straining the capacity at all. I should have plenty of room for the times when I carry another card or two. Everything slipped easily into the Ridge. I also included a folded packet of currency and slipped that under the external strap. It makes for a very neat high-tech looking package that easily slips into a front pocket. The available videos online make it look easy to use but it’s apparent to me that it will take some time for me to make accessing my cards a matter of routine. The elastic grips the cards quite tight – which is good for retaining them – but it is a little tricky to push them up and get a good grip on them. As I said, it will probably just take some practice to develop a preferred technique. The cash handling also takes some getting used to. It’s necessary to fold the bills over twice to make a small packet, which limits the number that can conveniently be carried. However, I know that I’ve always carried a lot more cash than necessary (especially these days) and can get used to having fewer bills on me. Ridge also makes some accessories that could be useful, such as a money clip to replace the cash strap and a thin “coin tray” that can hold small objects such as coins or a key and be slipped in with the cards. Overall this is a really well-designed product that should last me indefinitely and easily replace the types of bulky leather wallets that I’ve been carrying all my life. I guess you really can teach an old dog some new tricks -- consider me a minimalist wallet convert!

If you are tired of carrying around a bulky wallet, this Ridge Wallet can by the lifestyle change you need. At half the thickness of a traditional wallet, it puts less strain on your back pocket and eventually granting you more comfort in everyday movement and sitting. Starting off with the build quality, it is only metal on the outer cover plates. The inner plates feel like acrylic, but hard enough to not be scratched by fingernails or credit cards. The outer metal plates are held in with 7 torx screws, and you can open it with an included screwdriver. It seems the only functional purpose of this is to replace the elastic strap if needed in the future. As for the functionality of the wallet, all of your items (cash, credit cards, etc.) are relying on the elastic strap to keep it in place. I cannot speak to the longevity of the strap, as with all things under tension it will have wear and tear the more you use it. The biggest concern is the strap losing strength and you accidentally lose items because of it, but hopefully you will notice long before that can start happening. Brand new, however, it holds the cards and cash very securely and takes quite a bit of force to expand the gap between the plates. The wallet itself can hold quite a few cards - I was able to fit 9 cards in with a problem. However, know that the more you put in, the harder it is to find the card you need. Personally, I find the sweet spot to be around 5 cards, which gives you enough space for the everyday essentials. Getting used to this wallet was very easy after you let go of needing to carry unnecessary items in your wallet all the time. Removing cards to use can be done without much hassle. Even if not for everyday use, I see this as a huge convenience for travel where you only need the essentials. While I was able to make this work for me, it is not for everyone. If you need to bring anything that does not fit the size of a credit card, this will not work for you. If you have multiple credit cards (for different rewards/stores), this will be more inconvenient. There are still uses for a traditional wallet, but if you don't carry that much anyways then this is a great product to try out.

I’ve traditionally used wallets that are made from materials like leather, where they are pretty flexible and conforming which minimizes their impact in my back pocket, but doesn’t do much in the way of preventing things like credit cards from getting bent. I wanted to try a hard side, low profile alternative. Enter the Ridge. This wallet alternative is minimal, truly rigid, and holds more cards than I thought it would. It has nylon elastic straps that keep the two aluminum plates together but stretch to accommodate several cards. The packaging says up to 12, and I put 8 including my drivers ID in with no issues. It was snug and seemed to keep the cards tight and secure, at least initially. I’m not sure how tight the elastic will stay over time though. There is also a clip band on the outside that allows you to put some folded cash with it and so it acts as a reasonable money clip. The cutout on each plate also provide access to push the group of cards out slightly to access them. This is initially convenient but I soon realized that you pretty much have to take the whole group of cards out to pull the one you actually need. Not so convenient. The other thing I wasn’t too pleased with is from my first impression. The rigid nature of it is great but for me it isn’t too comfy in my back pocket. I suppose carrying it in a front pocket might be fine, but I prefer the back pocket. Overall it’s a quality product, fit and finish is solid, but I think I’ll stick with sport material wallets for now.

My first impression of this wallet is that its very well-built. Quality materials and it feels good in your hand. The size is slightly bigger than credit cards, and has no problem fitting in a pocket. The cash strap works well with a couple of bills folded, and seems to stay secure so far. My other card holder maxed out and the inside started falling apart, so I wanted something more reliable. Despite its aesthetics and quality, its functionality doesn’t seem great. The instructions and video’s aren’t the best as it shows you how to do things quickly, such as initially adding a bulk set of cards to it and not individual cards which is a big difference. They rushed the removing cards technique which doesn’t seem to work very well. Its got a very tight space, and its hard to “fan” the cards out. Putting cards in and out of it is challenging and requires 2 hands and time to find your correct card. When you are trying to check-out at a register, the process should be easy and quick, so I’m not impressed with that. I also feel like if I use this enough, the cards will get damaged from messing up the edges because of how tight the squeeze is when sliding cards in and out. This wallet says it can hold 12 cards, so far I’ve put 8 cards into it, and its extra tight at that point. When I try to pull a card out, you basically have to pull all the cards out and THEN shuffle through them to find the correct one. So I’m not convinced this is a great daily wallet if you plan to carry more than 2-3 cards, but could be a good spare location to store extra cards that you are not actively using, which is what I plan to use it for. I do like the Lifetime warranty included which will hopefully mean this could be the last wallet you need to purchase. It also includes the special screw driver with extra screws just in case your wallet needs maintenance or if you somehow lose a screw.

The Ridge wallet is a great alternative to a traditional wallet. It comes in a small box and is already assembled and ready to use. It does come with some extra screws should you ever need to replace any of the ones that come pre installed. I've used a similiar type of clip/money holder from amazon that is meant to be a cheaper version of this and it was in fact cheaply made. You can tell this is the real deal. Using it is as simple as figuring out the order you want to put your cards/ID's in and then putting your cash into the back strap. I will admit that if this is your first time owning this kind of clip there is a small learning curve with pushing out the cards you want. After a few days it'll feel natural but the lightweight footprint it carries in your pocket will quickly make you glad you made the switch. The only thing I worry about is the elastic bands on the outside that keep everything in place fraying or wearing down but only time will tell. This was a problem on cheaper brands. Overall would recommend I love this style of clip and would not go back to a traditional wallet.

Its a little difficult to get the cards out but otherwise it has a tight grip. Cash strap doesnt feel as secure.

I have a wallet similar to this but less expensive haven't noticed a big difference yet compared to the Ridge wallet waiting to see if there is a difference in the Ridges higher price, I like this style of wallets compared to other bulky wallets

I purchased this wallet as a gift for my husband on a whim and he loves it. It’s much more compact than a traditional wallet and he can keep it in his front pocket.
