I am pleased with the DVD/ Bluray combo release of Guillermo Del Toro's Oscar-winning film "The Shape of Water." I purchased this release to add to my DVD collection and to screen the film and its extras for my film students. The superb quality of the digital transfer and the informative extras added to my enjoyment of the film and allowed my students to fully appreciate Del Toro's achievement with this lovely and heartfelt piece of cinema. Highly recommended!

I wont say much about the movie itself - your mileage may vary depending on how you feel about Guillermo Del Toro. It is a beautiful movie and looks great in 4K. The steelbook itself is the real selling point. The art is wonderful and the shine of the steelbook really sells it. The steel itself feels a little flimsy on my copy, but there are a lot of reasons that could be and is atypical for the majority of steelbook I have purchased. If you like this movie and want a reasonably priced 4K in a beautiful package, this is the way to go.

This movie deserved every Oscar it won. The colors they used in the movie was beautifully done. The music is very beautiful, the main character doesn't talk but she sells every scene, you can feel what she's trying to say just by the way she looks with her eyes, the facial/hand expressions says all you need to know what she's trying to say. Supporting characters were just as great and Richard Jenkins role was brilliantly written. One of Del Toro's most memorable movies he ever made. A modern day fairy tale, a princess without a voice.

Loved this movie and its inventive story. Great direction, cinematography, and acting. The score is great too. Dolby Vision almost ruins it for me. The dark areas are too dark. The bright areas are too bright. In dark scenes of the film you can't see anything. Can't imagine this is what the director wanted. Too much technology interfering with the beauty of the film. Try to ignore the overly contrasty implementation and you can still enjoy what was a worthy best picture film.

The 4k transfer is excellent. There are some special features worth viewing, but still just a little bit to be desired on that front. Overall, I'd say grab the 4K release if you have the appropriate hardware.

The movie was listed as Best Picture of the Year. I had wanted to see it was hesitant due to some of the trailers. Finally used one of my Rewards Certificates to purchase this movie. It was very different and captivating. I wasn't sure that my husband would care for it but it wrapped him up into the movie as well. A different love story, full of action, deceit, and courage. A few spots of nudity but overall it was a good movie with heart.

if you know him as a person and as a director you already know he puts his love and his heart in all of his projects! this is just about a creature found somewhere in an amazon brought to the US where the military plans to dissect it in order to get some of its abilities and out them on their soldiers it probably may sound cheesy but its executed in a good way be wary tho this thing has a lot of explicit sexual stuff

I honestly didn't know what to expect before watching it. Some people told me that it was ok, some said it was good, and some people even said they believe that its the character from the first 'Hellboy' movie. So I watched it. I thought it was a pretty good love story. I want to believe he is the start of the character from 'Hellboy', but I don't know. ...Overall though, the movie was pretty good, but that song took away from it, for me. I mean, I get the reason for it, but it still was a little awkward. ...There are a couple adult scenes in it though, that kids shouldn't watch.

I’m a big Blu-ray collector and I already owned The Shape of Water because it is a great movie (I’d say it’s easily a 9/10). I saw this new Steelbook which included the 4K which I did not own and it is one of my posters of the movie on the cover so it’s exactly what I want for my collection. It’s also the matte finish for the steelbook instead of the metallic which I personally prefer because the metallic tends to get fingerprints and smudges on it, so it’s perfect!

The Shape of Water is a wonderful adult fairy tale with a great performance by Sally Hawkins. Without uttering a single word, she conveys more emotion and intention than many actors do with pages of dialogue. She gets wonderful support from veteran actors Octavia Spencer and the always reliable Richard Jenkins. Guillermo Del Toro's directorial vision is perfectly presented in this 4K release. The colors and details are all there. The Oscar that the movie received was well desreved.

I loved this movie when I saw it in the Movie theatre and immediately added it to my Black Friday acquisition list. I have a Vizio P55 Red TV with a Philips BDP7502 4K and an older Onkyo surround system. This film sings in 4K! The water is so vividly rendered, I thought my floor would be wet! The crispness and color are dazzling. Upgrade your collection today and start with The a Shape of Water - it has everything a film needs, including an Oscar statue.

Very rarely does a truly original sci-fi movie offer a totally new concept. Okay, the "monster" looks like the Creature From The Black Lagoon, but this particular relationship, the level of darkness the antagonist goes to, and the wonderful next door neighbor make this one of the most original sci-fi flicks I've seen in the last decade. It's shot beautifully, the acting is perfect, and it's probably my favorite "adult" sci-fi movie I've seen in years.

The photography of the film is really amazing because you feel like it's filmed underwater and in many cases it is not. The acting is outstanding especially by Sally Hawkins who plays a mute. She is incredible as is Michael Shannon and Richard Jenkins. The story is so unusual. The film covers all the emotions, drama, heartbreak, laughter, and redemption. I definitely recommend this film.

This movie won multiple awards and I had to check it out. I greatly enjoyed the movie......but it was because I did not expect, anticipate, or set my judgement criteria around perfection. It was about a bunch of oddballs and misfits coming together in the face of a very powerful villain to do the right thing (and in Shape of Water's case, despite tremendous risk and danger, rather than a stupid system). There are flaws with the movie, but I didn't mind them.

Del Toro Oscar winner for Best Director & Picture

Director Guillermo del Toro's best movie since Pan's Labyrinth - The Shape of Water won him a well deserved Best Director Oscar at the 90th Academy Awards and the movie won the Best Picture Oscar. Del Toro originated the idea based on childhood memories of Creature from the Black Lagoon and co-wrote the screenplay and co-produced the movie.

I saw this movie on TV one night and really liked it. So I wanted to own it. I ordered it on Blu-ray/DVD combo. It is just as good on the second and third viewings. For me, it is a romantic Sci-Fi/Horror political commentary on how we treat beings and minorities that are different from those who are in power. The movie is both entertaining and sad at times.

Guillermo Del Toro does it again. Inspired by the creature from the black lagoon 'The Shape of Water' teaches us what is means to be human, and how it feels to be treated as less than. The color palette is fire, the actors all kill it, & Michael Shannon is terrifying. This movie is pulpy & delicious.

I love this movie. It clearly demonstrates how dark the human ego can be especially in males. And yet we see a woman who is deaf/mute who is not just empathetic towards others, she is obviously an open person who does not judge others by what she sees, This would be a good lesson for many these days.

What a wonderful imaginary film by Guillermo del Toro. The plot is refreshing and directing is on point. I love the main character Elisa and how she interacts with her environment as well as how she is attracted to the creature. Doug Jones seems to reprise his Abe Sapien role in this movie (I know it's not) and Octavia Spencer delivers another solid performance.

Although deserving of praise for the value it places on authenticity and genuine concern for life, it is somewhat disconcerting and has a decidedly anti government and anti military worldview. A sort of "love in spite of the powers that be" theme, which plays off of the themes of current political movements. But very well written and well made, and definitely worth watching.
