This came in the steelbook case which is wonderful because even the best plastic disc case gets musty over time. I expect this bluray will be in my possession a long time so I'm glad the package is in top shape! Oh, btw, this is one of the greatest movies ever made. I mean, do I really need to explain that part to you? If you are on the fence about buying this, just buy it. Quit torturing yourself. Life is short and entropy will kill us all before its over. Everything you've ever known will be burned to a crisp by the universe so go to Best Buy and buy The Shining. Grab a soda and kick back and enjoy it.

A classic horror movie, if you've seen it than you know. If you haven't I would probably rent it before you buy it.

This movie was entertaining and a great movie for the whole family. My five year old son enjoyed every second of it.

I didn't think the uptick in resolution would better than the blu-ray but I was wrong and the movie looks incredible.

No need to review the movie itself as it's been available in every format since VHS. The film itself is the prequel to the new film Doctor Sleep and is a must see before seeing Doctor Sleep. Jack Nicholson gives the very best performance he's ever done, why he didn't get an Oscar is a mystery (other than Horror films are looked down upon by the Academy for some reason). This new 4K is a definite improvement over the regular Blu-ray release and is highly recommend if you have a 4K TV and 4K Blu-ray player.

I've always been a big fan of the Shining, and had to pick this 4K copy up when I saw how good the cover looked!

I consider The Shining to be my favorite horror movie of all time so expectations were high for the upcoming 4K restoration and subsequent Best Buy Steelbook. I was not disappointed. This is probably my favorite Steelbook in my small collection as the yellow is reminiscent of the original poster and the iconic words "all work and no play makes jack a dull boy" in the formation of the spooky maze featured in the movie. Overall, if you're a steelbook lover and/or a Shining lover this is a must have.

Brilliant, creepy horror from Kubrick, with mesmerizing camera work and bizarre, arresting set pieces. Nicholson is a marvel to watch as his character evolves from a slightly odd but functioning adult to raving psychopath. Scatman Crothers is also memorable as the hotel's only other resident. Based on Stephen King's book, the film has Kubrick's slightly twisted genius all over it. Look for those wild tracking shots as Danny rides his tricycle indoors.

This is one of Jack Nicholson's finest performances as he plays an average man who descends into madness when he takes on the role of caretaker in an out of the way hotel/resort. Once he becomes a madman, he goes so far as to hunt his wife and son, who, he has also taken to the hotele/resort. Who will survive? You will have to see the movie, if, you have never seen it before. The movie also has paranormal elements to it. I have seen this movie once before, and did not need to read any other online reviews of it. I knew what I was getting when I purchased it.

The ONLY King Flicker I enjoy. About a Family Hotel Sitting in Colorado when all of a sudden things go awry.

I was nervous about this release at first as The Shining has had issues when it comes to remasters. I am pleased to say this is an amazing transfer. The coloring and film grain are natural. Framing of the film is great and is sustained throughout. Even without a 4k tv or 4k ultra blurry player you can enjoy the new remaster on the bluray which is included. If you are a fan of The Shining this is the best way to watch it. The packaging is pretty awesome too.

Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Stephen King's book scarred me as a kid. Now as an adult I admire the master craft of one of my favorite filmmakers. I will assume you are already familiar with this film and focus my review on the DVD features. Great restored picture and sound. Includes a 35-minute "Making of The Shining" feature. Film is presented in full aspect ratio as Stanley Kubrick intended, according to the packaging. My DVD of "Eyes Wide Shut" is also presented this way, but I've seen a widescreen version available, so I'm left wondering how accurate this statement is.

I love the movie. The sound track is amazing. The visual are good for a older movies.

I remember seeing this movie soon after it was completed in 1980. Looking back at the film, it's my opinion that it's the best ever movie adaption of a Stephen King novel. As I remember, the adaption was a problem with many King fans when the movie was released due to the changes made to the novel by director Stanley Kubrick. All the acting is excellent, but the movie belongs to Jack Nicholson. Disk contains a trailer for the film and a 35 minute behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of the Shining which shows how various scenes were set up..

It is VERY rare to have an amazing author like Stephen King have a film made from one of his best books by one of the best directors in history, Stanley Kubrick. This is one of the greatest movies of the 20th century, period. There is nothing in this film that is not in the top 5% of all time, short of crazy special effects, which the subject matter does not require. 10 stars on a 5 point scale.

After being unable to muster the will to watch 2001 for the tenth time, I was thrilled to see The Shining was getting a UHD release so I could see a Kubrick film in 4K. This is one of the best UHD releases I've seen with incredible picture quality, HDR, and a very natural film grain. This was so stunning that it has got me excited to order and rewatch 2001 on UHD. Any movie collector owes it to themselves to pick this up.

I saw this when my local theater was showing it for Halloween. I thought it was a really good movie, even though I’ve heard Stephen King didn’t like how it turned out. Don’t listen to naysayers. I thought it was a classic Kubrick film with other films he made like Dr. Strangelove and 2001.
