In several ways I enjoy the 1997 version better than this original, for one the 1997 doesn't have the foul language like this one does. I debated between a 3 and 4 star for a few reasons, & not because Stephen King hated this version of it. 3 star because of all the foul language in it, there is no need to have such foul language in a move (or book or anything) to get a point across. I hadn't watched it in a while, even though I like The Shining, I had forgotten just how much foul language was in it, I will be getting a tv guardian before watching it again. 4 star because of the graphics and it is an original. Something has to be unbearable terrible for me to give it 0-2 stars.

If you like suspense and a little bit of Gore - this is for you.

I've said this in a few other 4K UHD reviews, but it bears repeating here. This truly is a large improvement on previous releases, and gives the most film-like (in this case, large-format film-like) presentation of the movie that I have ever seen. If you are even a casual fan of classic horror/thriller films, run out and buy this. Then buy Doctor Sleep when it comes out, too. :-)

See it and understand the sequel. As scary now as it was then.

The classic horror adaptation of Stephen King's novel by Stanley Kubrick looks outstanding on 4k. A film with great performances, harrowing chills, and sinister spirits comes to life in glorious picture and sound in this release. If you call yourself a horror or a film fan in general, this title must be in your collection and what better than 4k!?

Excellent upgrade of a classic horror movie. Beautiful picture.

The Shining is one of Stephen King's all-time classics and a must-own for anyone that's a fan of the genre. The film, fully restored here, has never looked better. It was recently re-released in theaters to help raise awareness of sequel "Doctor Sleep", and this 4K Steelbook is that version of the film. It's crisp and clear with the haunting soundtrack we all remember.

I mean it’s a classic movie everyone should have at home

Warner Bros did an amazing job with this transfer!! I like the quality in this transfer!! The film itself is a work of art. Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance is amazing. I love the directing style done by Stanley Kubrick and the suspense in here.

Spectacular in 4K. Gearing up for part 2 doctor sleep.

This became an instant top 5 favorite. I watched this for the first time in my life with my dad in December 2020, so this movie will hold a special place to me for that reason. Amazing story, acting and quite the psychological horror thriller. The sequel, Doctor Sleep was also a great follow up. God Bless
