Got it for christmas, was waiting for the anniversary in July to watch it. Unfortunately then realized that the HDR/4K disk would not play in my XBox and had to fall back on the HD copy. Won't exchange it and no response from publisher.

Love the movie. Great practical effects. Only downside is the bluray didn't come with it's slip cover

Not sure why Best Buy sells steelbooks for a premium, then decides to ship them in a bubble mailer. Received my The Thing steelbook from Best Buy damaged/crushed to where as the case will not even close. Disc were not damaged, but went into the store to open it just incase. Unable to exchange item for another since its sold out. Will not order another steelbook via mail until items are shipped in a small box to protect.

Ehhhh better of kept in 1982 in all honesty. Didn’t age well

Bought it for store pickup & the copy placed aside for me was scratched up & even the slipcover was visibly torn. There were plenty of copies available when I purchased it so it makes me mad me off that someone working at the Pflugerville Best Buy decided the pull the crappiest looking copy aside for me & now it’s sold out.

I ordered 2 of these. They were NOT the Collectors Edition of the DVD. It's the WRONGt regular edition. Back they go :( .

John Carpenter's The Thing is both a remake of Howard Hawks' 1951 film of the same name and a re-adaptation of the John W. Campbell Jr. story "Who Goes There?" on which it was based. Carpenter's film is more faithful to Campbell's story than Hawks' version and also substantially more reliant on special effects, provided in abundance by a team of over 40 technicians, including veteran creature-effects artists Rob Bottin and Stan Winston. The film opens enigmatically with a Siberian Husky running through the Antarctic tundra, chased by two men in a helicopter firing at it from above. Even after the dog finds shelter at an American research outpost, the men in the helicopter (Norwegians from an outpost nearby) land and keep shooting. One of the Norwegians drops a grenade and blows himself and the helicopter to pieces; the other is shot dead in the snow by Garry (Donald Moffat), the American outpost captain. American helicopter pilot MacReady (Kurt Russell, fresh from Carpenter's Escape From New York) and camp doctor Copper (Richard Dysart) fly off to find the Norwegian base and discover some pretty strange goings-on. The base is in ruins, and the only occupants are a man frozen to a chair (having cut his own throat) and the burned remains of what could be one man or several men. In a side room, Copper and MacReady find a coffin-like block of ice from which something has been recently cut. That night at the American base, the Husky changes into the Thing, and the Americans learn first-hand that the creature has the ability to mutate into anything it kills. For the rest of the film the men fight a losing (and very gory) battle against it, never knowing if one of their own dwindling number is the Thing in disguise. Though resurrected as a cult favorite, The Thing failed at the box office during its initial run, possibly because of its release just two weeks after Steven Spielberg's warmly received E.T.The Extra-Terrestrial. Along with Ridley Scott's futuristic Alien, The Thing helped stimulate a new wave of sci-fi horror films in which action and special effects wizardry were often seen as ends in themselves. - Video They used the same beautiful 1080p/VC-1 transfer from the 2006 HD DVD release and it is Quality. You will love the color, contrast and clarity this BD brings to the table, giving " The Thing " a renewed appearance that will knock your socks off! A BD-25 GB disc is used, with a resolution of 2.35:1. - Audio Universal includes a English DTS-HD Lossless Master 5.1 Audio, while this is a nice step up from the HD disc which offered the Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 Surround sound. This is a positive move, but sadly it wasn't used to the fullest, with this soundtrack being front heavy and not immersive, meaning it could use a good remastering to bring it up to 2008 standards, I found it fell short of my expectations of what a DTS-HD Master soundtrack should sound like.. If only they had used a BD-50 GB and mixed it into 7.1 surround sound, this would have been more appropriate for a film of this caliber. - Extras Audio Commentary by John Carpenter & Kurt Russell Terror Takes Shape a PIP Documentary of: The Making of the Thing My Scenes Share your favorite scenes online using BD-Live I felt the extra's in this release were quite sparse, compared to the HD-DVD version, which included the 85 minute documentary of " Terror Takes Shape " the making of the Thing. " The Thing" is one of my all time favorite Scifi-Horror films of all times for so many reasons which make me nostalgic for John Carpenter films, which I feel fortunate to have been around to see his great films on the big screen, he puts his heart into his work and it shows in this film!

Such a great film, and I am so happy to own this! One of the best!

This particular version is my favorite horror movie of all time. John Carpenter used his genius to bring to life this Bill Lancaster adaptation of the John W. Campbell short story "Who Goes There?". It's a whodunit based in the isolated Antarctic wilderness. Witness the cleverly painted, even humorous relationships between the characters as they struggle to stay alive without trusting each other. Definitely one for the personal video library!

This is one of my favorite movies, and hearing it would be put out by Shout! Factory was a dream come true. I was a little disappointed at the quality of the new transfer on their recent release of The Transformers, but this film they nailed it harder than I have ever seen it nailed before. I have watched and watched the bare bones bluray, and there is no comparison. The picture is so much noticeably better here. Add to that a whole disc worth of awesome new and archival extras and you have a must-own special edition of this horror classic.

This, in my opinion, is one of John Carpenter's best films to date! It scared me as a kid and still gets me at 30. My wife and I love this movie! If you haven't seen it, you're really missing out on a true quality horror movie. This is a must own for any DVD or horror collector. I highly recommend it! Also, some of my other personal John Carpenter favorites are In the Mouth of Madness, Prince of Darkness, and Cigarette Burns.

The Thing is one of those movies that a fan of horror or science fiction should be required to watch. Every aspect from the plot(sometimes all the answers are not required), acting(one of my favorite Kurt Russel roles), and effects(looks much better than the recent prequel) make The Thing one of the best genre movies of all time. Despite its obvious age, The Thing looks fantastic on Blu-Ray and the audio also does the job. The only thing lacking is special features.

A classic horror movie the blu ray is the worth the money

I love this movie!! The soundtrack is classic Carpenter and sets the mood for the entire film. Good action, suspense, and some great one liners. The commentary has Carpenter and Russell telling some great storys about the filming of the movie.

Scream Factory has done a superb job with what I find the be the definitive release of John Carpenter's The Thing on blu-ray. The transfer looks amazing and the set is overflowing with bonus features, many of which are newly commissioned for this release. A must have for fans of this sci-fi horror classic.

My second favorite horror movie of all time and this 4k transfer is mind blowing a must have for horror collectors!!!!

Once again I agree with redandblack6's review ( I haven't found one yet that I don't). This movie was one I used to watch when I skpped school and my Mom couldn't tell me no. What kills me is that when I talk about this movie, no one has seen it!!
