Good sequel/prequel to the original, which is saying something given that the original is a masterpiece. It is not a remake.

Great remake, good plot twist scary and suspenseful. A little more enhanced background story than the original.

This is a far, far better movie than I think many would lead you to believe. It's not as good as Carpenter's "The Thing," but then again not much is. In a rare moment of wisdom, Hollywood decided not to do a remake, and instead did a prequel, tying up some of the looser ends of the 1982 movie. It does, of course, repeat a lot of elements, but that's unavoidable. Very good movie, faithful enough to the original to work as a legit prequel.

This film is awesome...it brings back good old fashioned horror and suspense

I didn't catch this movie in the theaters, but I'm a big fan of the original The Thing. I recently picked up the original The Thing movie on bluray (upgraded from dvd) and was reminded of this more recent 'prequal' movie too... so I purchased both. This movie didn't disappoint. I enjoyed it and their attention to detail to allow certain scenes/events/items from the original movie to be referenced in this prequel. Afterward it made me want to rewatch the original again!

I borrowed this movie from a friend when it first came out. I liked it; but didn't want to pay so much for it. While looking for something else in the store, I found this movie and it was at a discounted price. As soon as I got home, I watched it again. I am a fan of Scandinavian movies and like many of the foreign actors in this film.

This should have won an Oscar! at lest as good as the 1982 version, and in many ways better with Blu-ray picture, and sound! the Oscars usually ignore good sci-fi movies, but this one deserves it! the tension never lets up! great professional script, and direction!

If you liked John Carpenter's "The Thing" from back in the 80's, then you'll probably enjoy this pre-quel too. It tells the story of what happened to the Norwegian camp and it's members before the sled-dog that isn't is seen running across the ice in the original opening scenes.

Not as good as the original, but a good prequel. I really wish they would have allowed the director the chance to leave in the impressive practical effects instead of replacing them with CGI.

I had a strange perspective of watching this immediately after watching John Carpenter’s The Thing for the first time. I thought it was a fun prequel that broadened the story of the original film

The prequel to one of the best sci-fi/horror movies out there by the legendary John Carpenter... It transitions just perfectly to the original movie.

Lately, it seems like everyone wants to re-make a movie or make a prequel to an existing movie. This is "by far" the best prequel movie I have ever seen. They did an excellent job at having a good plot, great action and setting it up to directly lead in to the previous film. Enjoy!

I enjoyed this prequel. Not as good as the first but still enjoyable. The ending ends where the first one begins. That was pretty cool.

My opinion was that this film is very average in terms of entertainment value. It seemed to me that there were more than nods to Carpenter’s THE THING. Probably a bit repetitive. CGI replaced practical effects and it is noticeable. Other than that audio and visuals are still rightfully high-def. Since it’s been out for a while, it couldn’t hurt to watch it first on cable or free stream before deciding to buy.
