'The Way Way Back' is the definition of a summer movie. The film is great in its execution, focusing on the fragile and socially complex world of being a young teenager living amidst the choices of our parents. Director/writers Nat Faxon and Jim Rash have crafted an amazing tale of teen strife and parental complications. The ending isn’t very “happy” by normal standards, but by the end, you feel content in knowing that everything will be just fine.

Between this movie, Boyhood, and The Kings of Summer there have been quite a few movies recently focused on the life development of boys in their adolescence. The Way Way Back, just like the others, knocks it out of the park with a smart, funny, and emotional ride along with a boy during his summer beach trip. Sam Rockwell continues to impress as well.

I remember really looking forward to watching this movie when I saw a trailer and was really intrigued by Steve Carell's performance in an antagonistic role. After watching it, I can definitely say it was pretty good. It wasn't spectacular, but good. He did, however, feel bland at times. Also, Sam Rockwell's performance was, in my opinion, much better given the fact that his character really "fit". He really made me feel that's who he really was on a daily basis. This then transitions me to why I didn't like this movie that much. Duncan, Liam James' character, was beyond unbearable to me. I don't want to blame the kid, but Liam James just didn't live up to what his character should have been. He wasn't likable, tolerable, and, on occasion, had little to no emotion. His facial expressions were almost always the same except when he would have to give the occasional smile. Besides him, however, the movie could have been better. The water park scenes were the best throughout the movie mainly due to the performances of all the actors that played the water park staff. Overall, this movie was OK.

I loved this film. Perhaps it is because I didn't expect anything from it and found it on a lazy Sunday. I really enjoyed the story, the cast and feel of the film. Do not watch the trailers just go in blind and you will not regret it.

With direction & writing by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash starring a fine cast that includes Steve Carell, Liam James,Toni Collette and Sam Rockwell "The Way Way Back" may be one of the best Blu-ray sleepers of 2013 ...at the very least, one of the better films in its class.

Typical coming-of-age film elevated by fantastic performances most notably by the always great and charismatic Sam Rockwell. The film also benefits from strong direction and a performance by Steve Carrell who plays against his type cast.

it's a great movie played by a young actor unknown to me but he played his character very well and steve carrell played a side of him ive never seen before a really good movie! 8/10

Movie has a great cast. Sam Rockwell, in particular, is great. Story is a bit cliched, but it's very heart warming. The Blu-ray has great video and audio. Also some pretty good extras.

I had never heard of this movie until recently. It was purchased on a blind buy...so glad I bought it. This coming of age story is terrific - funny, touching and heart warming. The Blu-ray picture quality is stunning

This is one of those sleeper films that if you watch it, you will be glad that you did. The cast is terrific and it has a lot of heart!

This film, from the producers of Little Miss Sunshine, is a charming film that is great for casual viewing or time spent with friends.

A coming of age story with plenty of comedy and drama. Great performances that I think most people will enjoy.
