Twist and turns. If you talk through movies this not for you. Background music when suspense happens is loud, while characters are talking. But if you enjoy folk-lore movies. This for you

A moody, uneasy masterpiece

This movie is one of the better horror films I've seen in a while. There is a feeling of unease throughout the entire film as you watch this puritan family unravel at the seams. Plus, the goat just creeps me out.

They don't make interesting dark/horror movies anymore or at all. This is non of the jump scare that the world is accustom to, it's more on the parallels to hereditary where it builds on dread instead of trying hard to scare the watcher. It is one of those A24 gems that are low budget, simple premise, but acting is of high quality and interesting story if you stay open minded. Besides, it is very cheap worth just buying to diversify your blu ray collection

Good Psychological Movie

The movie was a little hard to understand because of the dialect spoken so I had to watch it again. It doesn't rely on gore to scare you. As mentioned above it's a good psychological movie that makes you think. Plus the atmosphere of the movie is excellent as well.

Slow Burn Horror

It moves kind of slow at times, but the slow burn builds tension. This is a legitimately creepy and scary movie. If that's not your thing or you need something that's fast paced, this won't be for you. If that is your jam, this movie is an excellent choice.

Age of the "slow-burn" "arthouse" horror

The Witch joins the ranks of It Follows and House of the Devil in this new age of modern horror films that put slightly more emphasis on mood and tone than on spectacle, i.e. prosthetics or set pieces. Beautiful cinematography and editing. Just know what you're in for.

Not what you would think of as a traditional horror film. It takes place around the Salem witch craze in early America. The actors are great and the story keeps you guessing. Not jump out of your seat scares, instead just an ominous vibe with a great crescendo.

My wife loves this movie so I got it for her. She's very much into Halloween and spooky things like the history of witches and what people thought of them. This movie is a perfect depiction of how people thought of witches and how frightened of them that long ago.

This was a pretty good movie, for a witch movie. It was almost too hardcore in one scene, but I still enjoyed it for the most part. The witch killing the baby and smearing it on herself almost made me turn off the movie, but I endured through it.

The story is simple, not much new. In New England, one family survive living in wide nature with supernatural power. They get one by one victim, than finally it contact them paranoia like nightmare. It is horror movie, but not much blood. Just enjoyable .

This film is not for everyone. It's defiantly a dark story plot. Acting is pretty good and is an instant horror classic in my opinion. Truly creepy. Stephen King thought so himself, that's a compliment coming from the horror king himself.

I enjoyed this movie and it held my attention through its entire run time. Please keep in mind this iMovies takes place many years ago so the dialogue may at times be tough to understand but not hard. Be sure to check out the behind the scenes.

The first thing I thought after watching this was that it's what "The Village" wanted to be. No I did not find it to be that scary, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the story unfold. I thought the acting was great, but be prepared to watch with the subtitles due to dialect. There was an unusual choice of nudity in the movie (this will make sense when you see it) which gave me a little more respect for the director and the decision to have it in the film. All around, I feel good about this purchase and look forward to when I have time to watch it again.

This movie was creepy and and great atmosphere of making certain things feel very unsettling. It’s definitely a slow burner of a story, so be prepared. Acting is very solid.

This is one of my favorite horror movies from the last year. It's perfectly creepy, the atmosphere is spooky and unsettling. It's a slower film but it sets everything up so well. The acting is fantastic and really draws you in.

In the tradition of the masterworks of Carl Theodor Dreyer and Andrei Tarkovsky, Robert Eggers visually stunning The Witch is full of phantasmagoric and surrealist imagery that excites the senses and rattles the nerves. Recommended.

great atmosphere, interest movie. wouldn't call it "scary" but in the horror genre. everyone performs well, especially the main actress. if you saw split or morgan, i'm impressed by her. worth the 5 bucks on sale.

This movie is not for everyone. Its more of a slow burn, oppressive atmosphere kinda film. Not really any jumpscares, just a building sense of dread, so not necessarily a "fun scary movie". That said, I absolutely love this movie. The performances are excellent, the dialogue being period accurate is a nice touch. That Robert Eggers makes good movies.

Being a fan of the horror genre, I've watched them all and I am rarely surprised, this movie surprised me. Today horror seems to be about shock and gore but what is really scary to me is a story that draws you in and gives you that eerie feeling that you may want to turn your lights on and look under your bed. The Wvitch succeeds at that and the performance by the actors is exceptional. The movie was filmed beautifully and directed with such care. Just a joy to put in on a dark winter night and watch. Not your typical horror film!

Compared to most horror movies that are released in recent years, this one is a gem. Because of the time period, it adds a little extra creepiness to it all. No cheap humor or scare tactics. Just a good suspenseful movie.
