I found this movie haunting and disturbing. Certainly not for everyone, certainly different than what I expected. The acting was great though the movie dragged at times. Still, it had it's moments.

This movie is a masterclass of suspense and have the subtitles turned on for the Old English they speak to help make things more clear. A must watch for any horror fans.

The movie was as good as it was in theaters. A bit upset that the only way to get the digital copy was through VUDU, a Wal-mart owned company, and I do not support them. But the movie itself is great.

Marketed incorrectly as a horror movie which contributes to its poor ratings, this is an excellent slow burn pyschological thriller that buries itself deep in ones own psyche. Excellent period piece!

Similar to a candles slow burn this one will drag you along until it cuts the wick and fades to black!

For film buffs I think the Witch is worth watching, but it's not quite what I expected when watching the trailer. It's not a scary film, but it is a little creepy. The young lead does a great job, but they probably should have spent a little more time casting some of the other parts. It's clear the director has talent, but there is only so much a director can do if the actors are inexperienced or struggle with their roles. I saw this at Sundance and agree that the director did very well for an indy film and for that reason I think it's worth watching, but don't expect a stellar film.

I bought this movie because I thought it would be based on historical and true events. I was a little surprised and disappointed because it was not entirely real as I perceived it would be. The ending is a bit loose!

Got it for my daughter’s birthday she loves scary movies. Hopefully it will be a good movie I got it for a great price . I watched the trailer looks good .

Picked this up during the Black Friday price drops and although slow and menacing...the film has a strong presence. Although the initial impression of the movie is decent, it has poor replay value.

The VVitch isn't an easy viewing. It's dark, it's muted in some parts, it's loud in others. It features dialog some viewers will have a hard time understanding. It's devoid of laughs or lightness. It's bleak. It's creepy. It's the furthest thing from a "feel good" film. So, in other words, it's a chilling horror experience rarely seen in today's movie landscape. Give it a chance, go in with an open mind, and let yourself get immersed in the subtle horror this film delivers on in spades.

This film is really something els. Seeing this film three years ago, i finally got to say when the film was over, that was horror film. Based on real fact's, court documents, witch trial papers, folk lore. It's all there. This was the start of horror FIANLLY coming back to the screen. Horror film's have been, just diasterous for the past two decades. This film has been the long awaited horror film i been waiting for, for to long now. Get this film!

THE VVITCH is a superior horror film. From the first frames, you feel the palpable sense of impending doom. The color palette is perfectly bland and period appropriate except when bright red colors are needed. Exceptional performances by newcomer Anja-Taylor Joy and the equally unknown cast. The woods are filled with menace, the occasional disruption of the quiet chills and even the family goat "Black Phillip" gives you the creeps. Stanley Kubrick would be proud.

This movie isn't quite like other horror/scary films and that's what I like about it. It's not just about thrills and jumps, it uses other techniques, the storytellling type, to put together a good film.

I am not a horror movie person, but my son is, for some reason. He bought this movie on Black Friday, having seen it about a year before. He said it was better than he remembered, and considered it a very accurate depiction of 1600s New England. The lead actress was excellent, and the movie was more a depiction of religious hysteria in a troubled family than the average slash-and-hack horror fest you see in theaters almost every week. He gave it an A- overall.

I watched this movie at night with all the lights off and it gave me the heebie-jeebies. They should make a Black Philip stuffed animal cuz I would buy it but I would also never let it near my children

Slow methodicaldreery tone is set for this occult tale.Honestly without giving it away, the end isn't surprising,but the mannerisms ofpeople portrayed backthen are realstiffand rigid. Good watch.

This isn't a typical horror movie with jump scares or tons of gore. I think it almost bored me at first. But it builds slowly into a strange place where neither hope nor god exist, where true evil is possible and makes what normally I would consider silly into something scary. I talked to a few people that just hated this movie, but it was in my thoughts for far too long after watching. It made me feel like I needed to go to church, and I dont really go to church.

My rating is more based on the production of the dvd rather than the movie itself. The movie is a 4 out of 5 rating. I’ve seen this movie before on a streaming service and ordered it for Halloween. After watching the movie some clips are not in order as they were when I watched them online, and I’m not sure why. I really like this movie but it’s more of a suspense film than horror imo. Would I recommend? Yes and no, based on my review.

This movie is called "an American Folk Tale" for a good reason. SO SCARY!! Set decades before the Salem witch trials, this movie makes you question reality and is compelling. HIGHLY recommended!

This is definitely one of the best recent horror films. I would suggest watching it with the subtitles on as the combination of accents and old English can be very difficult to understand.
