    Perfection in Modern Cinema

Films like Paul Thomas Anderson's "There Will Be Blood" are rarities that come in a flash. There is nothing about this film from the minuscule attention to detail to Robert Elswit's haunting cinematography that isn't genuinely perfect. And then there is Daniel Day-Lewis's performance, a true masterclass of acting. I don't like to use hyperbole to describe a film, but this one genuinely is a masterpiece. The Blu-ray's video and TruHD audio quality is top tier, as are the small collection of bonus features that take you deep into the real world of oil drilling. A true MUST OWN for your Blu-ray collection.

    Masterpiece

I'll skip the synopsis and get right on to why I love this movie. This movie is why I love movies. Daniel Day Lewis gives a performance unmatched by anyone in the last decade, except perhaps Adrien Brody in "The Pianist". He is gut-wrenchingly raw in his portrayal of the embodiment of greed, power and lust. His speech, posture and subtle behaviors are nothing short of brilliant. This is the film that puts Paul Thomas Anderson among the elite of directors. It is an absolute work of art, that is naturalistic and flawless from beginning to end. The movie leaves you pondering for days to come. "I'm finished!" -Daniel Plainview, There Will Be Blood

    Very bizarre film!

This movie was hilarious, my wife and I thought it was great! We were under the impression this was an action/ drama, but we realized about 30 min. in, that it was a comedy. It did drag on a bit, they could've made it a little shorter. The music in this film was very strange and didn't really fit any of the scenes. The movie was filled with odd characters and bizarre events. Like I said, I think this was more of a comedy, my wife and I were in tears from laughter by the end of the film. The final scene is the best part of the movie, hilarious! I recommend this film, but as a comedy, not a drama! Also, if you like this, you may want to check out Ravenous.

this movie was very long. thats not a bad thing, but 10 or 15 or 20 minutes shorter wouldve told the story just as good. daniel day lewis was superb and deserves the oscar. the ending was the only violent scene and the title is there will be BLOOD. they coulnt name it there will be oil. i understand why so many people thought this was so slow, because it is, but for good reason. daniels acting couldve made this a 3 1/2 hour long movie and i wouldnt have been bored. and you really have to appreciate the whole situation of daniels character to like this. the cinametography was great and the weird characters played their parts through.

Truly a great film. This film is now among my favorite films of all time, including The Godfather's (I & II), Leaving Las Vegas, East of Eden, Goodfellas, Gangs of New York among others. Daniel Day is one of the greats who could carry the entire weight of a picture all by himself. Paul Dano was able to stand out on his own even in this company. Perhaps, to my recollection, he performed BETTER when in his scenes with Lewis. The cinematography was breathtaking. The soundtrack is unique and compliments the film very well.

    Instant Classic

This movie is an instant classic, no questions asked. The tension mounts throughout the entire movie until it hits you over the head and knocks the wind right out of you... in a very good way. The soundtrack is amazing and unlike anything you will ever hear again, it perfectly compliments the visual aspects of the movie in every way. Daniel Day-Lewis is perfectly cast as the films lead "Daniel Plainview" a man that you love to hate, his portrayal is comparable to Marlon Brando in The Godfather... better, actually.

This movie is just like jumping in a time machine set for the late 1800's and not returning until you see credits and even then you're in a complete whirlwind. Absolute combination of beauty and intensity. Thrilling and soothing. I literally lost track of all my surroundings during this entire movie. I forgot where I was and that I was watching a movie. I've been waiting for a movie like this all my life. No exaggerations. And what better of a topic today than oil franchise? Spectacular!!!

a loose adaption from the book Oil, and taking many of the themes from the bogart film treasure of sierra madre, this film is a masterpiece. Daniel Day-Lewis creates an unforgettable character who battles himself. Greed, family, regret, and for those who have already seen it, milkshakes. This movie is very eerie but madly entertaining. The depth of this movie is marvelous, it is a much see for any Day-Lewis fan, or for anyone who enjoys really good movies. WATCH IT>!

    SPECTACULAR!

This movie was totally amazing. Daniel Day Lewis earned his Oscar, playing the greedy, hateful Daniel Longview, a successful self-proclaimed "oil man." Even if his character is petty, you still feel for him, especially when tragedy befalls his beloved son, H.W. The ending will shock you (and maybe thrill you, depending on how you feel about Paul Dano's false prophet Eli Sunday). An amazing movie...two and a half hours goes by too quickly!

    Decent, but kind of overrated

"There Will Be Blood" is an interesting and rather Kubrik-esque toned film about an oil man and his son in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It seems to be historically accurate with regards to clothing, attitude towards workers, etc. The main character starts out small in the business, and works his way to wealth and relative power. He also happens to be a psychopath, in the clinical sense. He can't stand to see others succeed, and doesn't really seem to view them as people, but rather as either subservient helpers or obstacles o be crushed. However, unlike other movies about psychopaths, such as American Psycho, or Natural Born Killers, we don't really get many glimpses inside his head. The consequence is that neither he or any of the other characters feel very personal or real. In American Psycho, we hear the distorted inner monologue, and see through the eyes of the killer. In Natural Born Killers, We get visual representations of their memories, thoughts, and desires. When one watches through the lense of the psycho, they become more relatable and interesting. But in There Will Be Blood, we have a character that would already be difficult to relate to as the protagonist, and get very few glimpses into his head. This lack of insight kept the movie from ever really drawing me in. So, to recap, it had strong directing and acting, but no sense of intimacy with the characters, and therefore left one standing outside looking in, rather than feeling like you're in the action.

This movie is... well, outstanding. The plot line at the begginig is hard to understand but than it starts and really catchs your attention. Dainel-Day-Lewis is an amazing actor but he just seemed to fit in this movie so well. I don't think any other actor could of done that job as well as Dainel-Day-Lewis. Not only was Daniel-day good but Paul Dano(teenager from little miss sunshine) gives also a great portrayl as a psycho priest.

Daniel Day lewis gives one of his best performances in years when he portraits the oil tycoon in this movie. It is one of the best movies this year and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good movie to see.

    An American Masterpiece

There Will Be Blood is an epic on the same level as Giant or Citizen Kane. This film is likewise the tale of a larger-than-life American success figure whose success is synonimous with his loss of morality. The Oscar-winning cinematography and Daniel-Day Lewis's unforgettable turn as the morally-deprived Daniel Plainview make this film a must-have for anyone who appreciates quality film.

    Poorly advertised in commercials

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The movie overall was great. The acting was incredible and the subtle lines really tell the true story. The problem with this movie is the commercials, you watch the commercials and think it's just about some drunk trying strike oil. What it's really about is the competition that lives so deep in one man and how it can drive him to tear apart the relationship of him and his son, and drive him to the brink of insanity.

This movie is amazing, but I'm upset with the casing. It came in a small paperback book like case that looks ridiculous. I have to return this movie and get the special edition (that cost thirteen dollars more) now because of the case alone. You might think this is a silly complaint, but this movie looks stupid amongst a collection. I would like to reiterate that the movie itself is amazing.

    Whats With The Case?

There Will Be Blood is an outstanding film. Daniel Day-Lewis gives the performance of a lifetime in his academy award winning performance. I bought the single disc edition because i was not particularly interested in the special features. A topic of debate seems to be its cheap paper case. Many people had scratched discs, i did not though. But be wary.

This is the best film of the decade. One I believe will live on as on the greatest films ever made, but lack of bonus features, and commentary makes the dvd not as great as it could. I would recommend the special edition for hardcore fans like myself.

Daniel Day Lewis (The Crucible, Gangs of New York, Lincoln is a remarkable actor. In fact, I would venture to say he can't play a bad role. An oil speculator faces vices and eventually faces realities about his own life.
