I've found this product to be the best mosquito repellent I've ever used and there's no smell or noise. Very impressed.

I thoroughly recommend the Thermacell with some minor caveats. It's not perfect, but it's the best thing we have used in our mosquito-infested backyard. When the Thermacell is running, after it is warmed up as it needs time to both heat up the repellent and get the repellent disbursed, it definitely reduces the mosquitos in the area. What we found is that to really protect an area, you may need a couple or even three to have a secure boundary from the proboscis of the wretched mosquitos. We also place one or more on the ground for the ankle biters and another on a tabletop for the vampires who like your neck and face. I went from being a blood donor on my patio to an occasional bite; thanks, Thermacell! And Thermacell mist does not harm, unlike DEET, which will melt your sunglasses when you overspray. The caveats are the units do take a while to charge, so after you use them, plug them in! The cartridges that come with the units do not last as long as the replacement cartridges, so you may consider buying replacements when you buy the Thermacells; and yes, it is the old you're not buying the razor, but the blades, or it's the ink, not the printer as the cartridges are about 40% the cost of the unit. One note the units come in two battery sizes, with the bigger battery giving a longer life. In our experience, the smaller battery lasted as long as we needed, but we also bought a bigger battery unit. In summary, the Thermacell is really a 4.5 star just because of some small stuff, but I agree with Wirecutter. If you want to enjoy the outdoors without being a blood supply for reproducing female mosquitos or covered in mosquito repellent, this is a marvelous device.

First a Pro-tip: When not in use, remove the cartridge and replace the cap. I left the cartridge in the device, unused for a few days. I ended up getting about 7 hours of use from a '36 hour' cartridge. Presumably due to evaporation. Aside from that, this does seem to do a good job keeping mosquitoes away. This was not a very scientific test so view the results with an appropriate level of skepticism: The mosquitoes were out in full force one afternoon. I remembered that I had the Thermacell sitting inside - d'oh. I powered it up and set it on the patio table for 10 minutes before sitting down again. The rest of the afternoon was mosquito-free. Nice. It should be noted that the air was pretty still so the repellent was not being blown away. The only minor issue is that there is no good way to tell when the cartridge is empty. You cannot see the cartridge. There is no smell and virtually no visible vapor. I guess the mosquitoes coming back is an indicator. Just not a good one.

I charged the mosquito unit for a few hours to be sure it was fully charged. I put it outside for about 15 minutes before I sat outside and it looked like it was working pretty well. Normally the second I set foot outside I get swarmed by mosquitoes and eaten it seems. With this out there I didn’t see very many at all. It is very small so if you need a larger area you’d need more than one. So I give it 5 stars as it seems to be doing what it says and keeping the bugs away from the immediate area. I definitely recommend.

The Thermacell repellent works great, but this emitter leaves much to be desired. The battery lasts barely 12 hours even though the refills are for 36 hours. I kind of assumed I could recharge it a couple times a week, but I have recharge it daily or it runs out mid-use. Aesthetically, the charging port is on the front and the rubber "door" doesn't close well, so it looks odd unless you fiddle with it.

This little item packs a BiG Punch!! To those pesky flying insects for sure! Folks don't even realize that it's doing a BiG Job keeping everyone bite and scratch free. This device does Not omit any toxic chemicals or smells either! So it is Safe for pets and children inside a tent or small space while no insects trying to make vittles for themselves! I would and will be buying more of these for myself and gifts as well as sharing my discovery with others. The replacement filters are a bit pricey but you get 3 to a pack and each one last awhile. Let's say, if you started using this device say in April/May till around end of Octoberfest, you should probably have a whole new fresh filter to start off next year. Best BuY seems to put the filters on Sale like in May I had seen them on a Deal. So, if you Hate Mosquitoes and Especially Stink Bugs and these crazy Lantern Flies I 've been having trouble with lately I would Definitely give this little device a try! Happy Summer Everyone!

Easy to use and set up. It starts up pretty fast and deters mosquitos.

This model is so easy to use and it's rechargeable. It has been used at kids football games, back patio and most recent Halloween to sit outside and hand out candy. No mosquitoes, no odor, no fumes. You almost forget it's there until you walk out of the covered zone and the mosquitoes attack. Highly recommend.

This is wonderful. I used it two nights in a row while camping. Mosquitoes love me. Nothing keeps them away especially at the campgrounds we go to. Not anymore. I put this next to me both nights and did not get one bite. The battery was low by the time I came in the second night, but it was no big deal to charge it. I love this and will definitely be buying the refills to keep on hand.

Theres zero smell, its super quiet and seems to keep the mosquitoes away! We tote this thing everywhere and it makes being outside much more enjoyable . It doesnt completely keep thevarea mosquito free but huge drop in them.

I was skeptical at first but it does actually work. Some gnats and stuff still aren't deterred, but mosquitos are severely reduced or even eliminated after it's been running for 15-30 minutes. If it's extremely windy it's less effective but most of the time it works very well

Seems to work well in smaller areas. My fenced in area is 13’ x 18’ and it seems ok. Keeps mosquitos away but the flys don’t care as much if you’re bbqing.

This works wonders. We use it inside of our 3 seasons room. Windows and screens open and have not seen a mosquito nearby

Due to the weather , I only had one opportunity to use it! It seems to be doing the job! I would have to wait until consistency hotter days and being outside!but I gave it five stars because of the few times we had a chance to use it no problem

So far it has worked how it should... used it during a party and no mosquitoes around the area of device. The refills are kinda expensive but if it keeps the mosquitoes away ill gladly pay

My sister and I were having a family gathering at parents house, place is literally a haven for mosquitos. We plugged this powerhouse in went inside to put things together anout 30 minutes or so. Came back outside and had the best time ever. Afterwards we are usually covered in bites and smelling like Raid from all the repellent we have been using. Fresh as a daisy and not one bite. Love this little machine and so convenient to use. Just charge it up toss it in the car and you are ready to make memories. My new and always travelling companion.

This product did the job of keeping mosquitos at bay. You can still see them flying around, but they never actually bite. As for the protection radius, any form of wind will greatly reduce its effectiveness, so bear that in mind. It uses the ancient micro usb to recharge, so thats one extra cable you have to keep tabs on. Usb c would've been a great addition and finally, the refills are a bit pricey, so dont leave the product on by accident. Overall, a good product to have if you're not a fan of bug spray.
