I wouldn't say this is the best movie out of all the marvel movies, but it is quite fun if you like the relationship between Thor and Loki. It's worth it for that if you are a fan of the whole marvel collection so far.

First Marvel Steelbook in the U.S.!

This steelbook is not like any other release outside of North America, this version has the title on the cover and it's debossed! None of the other countries that released a 'Thor: The Dark World' steelbook had these features. My only complaint is the stickers that Best Buy has started to use for the in store pickup. These are almost impossible to take off without either stretching or marring the shrink wrap in one way or another. For small items such as this, Best Buy should be putting them in a small bag, and then sealing the bag with the sticker! I hope that Best Buy continues offering original steelbooks such as this one!

I was happy enough to wait until Thor: The Dark World came out on DVD to watch it and it turns out my instincts were right. While the movie went in a fairly inventive and interesting direction it lacked the same je ne sais quoi and magic that really brought the first one to life. On the other hand, I enjoyed the special effects and the secondary characters quite a bit more in this one. I still think Natalie Portman is under utilized but overall a stellar performance from the cast. The more we learn about the infinity stones the more interesting that aspect of the overarching Marvel story gets. I would recommend buying it as it takes at least a couple of watches to to catch everything and was overall a pretty good movie.

Thor sequel not quite as good as original

While Thor the Dark World has a lot going for it, it never quite matches the scope and sweep of the first Thor film. The key cast members, such as Hemsworth, Hiddleston and Hopkins (The three H's) are now quite comfortable in their role, Natalie Portman still feels slightly miscast, and Kat Dennings is if it's possible, even more squeaky and annoying as Kat the comic relief character (aren't they supposed to be smart scientist types?). Christopher Eccleston is pretty darn good as Malekith, but he doesn't get all that much to do, and is often overshadowed in the villain department by Hiddleston's Loki. And one important note about the DVD features, the one-disc Blu-Ray DOES have the filmmaker commentary, even though it's not listed on the DVD sleeve.

    Thor's Sophomore Effort

Starting with the excellent origin story of THOR, and continuing with AVENGERS, THOR: THE DARK WORLD brings the story back to Thor and his Asgardian homeworld. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston fantastically reprise their roles as Thor and Loki, full of bravado and full enjoyment in their roles. It a great hero in action story with only two weak points. One being Natalie Portman as the love interest having only limited chemistry. The other being Christopher Eccleston as the villain whom we see as a major threat, but truly know so little about. Putting those aside, the movie still comes across a thrilling visual epic, still warranting a recommended rating.

Thor wasn't always my favorite marvel characters. However after part one I have changed my tune. This one is just as fun and an even better if a little bit of a darker story. The special effects are top notch and the 3d version doesn't diminish that at all. The special package in the steel case is awesome and I love that it was cheaper than walmart!!! Don't hesitate to buy this one it's a winner in all areas!

Being a fan of the Marvel/Avengers series of movies this was going to be added to my collection under any circumstances. While it isn't as visually stunning as some of the newer movies out there and there aren't as many revealing details about the continuum this is still a solid movie. I won't give any spoilers but there are enough "new" revelations and action scenes to keep you engaged throughout, and the visuals might not be spectacular compared to scenes like those in Man of Steel 3D but they are still REAL good. Do not attempt to watch as a standalone or even as a sequel to the 1st movie as you will be completely lost but if you are following the continuum this is worthy to add to your 3D collection.

    My Boys Love It

I have 2 boys, ages 5 & 7 and they love this movie. We saw it in the theater and they were anxious to add it to our movie library when it came out on Blu ray. The movie itself is pretty good as Superhero movies go. I found it funny and entertaining. My boys loved the action and cameo by Captain America. My only criticism is the use of the "s" word. Nothing makes a Mom cringe more than hearing her 5 year old repeat a bad word from a movie. The film would have been the same had that word been left out. I realize it's my job as a parent to restrict my kids from seeing movies with profanity, but they love Thor. I just wish they had used a different word in the film. Overall, we lob the movie and I am happy with my purchase.

All in all, a fun popcorn flick! It delivered in all the right ways for this kind of comic book inspired film. The main characters are further developed from the first film and really seem to have genuine interactions with one another. Tom Hiddleston is a real standout as the tortured semi-villain Loki. Is it perfect? Far from it... the villains involved are completely without proper motivation or cause and seem almost comically evil (and not in the good way either)! Still, it hits enough of the right notes to feel like a proper portrayal of Marvel Comic's titular hero. Good, clean fun... start to finish. A little weak in the story and rushed towards it's resolution, but for the most part an enjoyable fantasy romp!

Definitely a good movie buy but 4K Blu-ray really doesn’t do a whole lot to it. It’s still old looking and sound quality isn’t quite there compared to most other 4K Blu-rays. Decent buy tho if it’s on sale.

Thor: The Dark World has a lot of things going for it, but the villain and plot aren't among them. This 3D version is pretty cool and I loved the action sequences, but it's just missing something. The opening sequence tries to replicate the first movie and fails. Likewise the main villain, Makekith, is very lackluster and very under utilized. The saving grace of this film is Hemsworths Thor and Hiddlestons Loki and their comraderie. Natalie Portman is only in this due to her name and contract and it shows. Why the writers felt she and Kat Dennings needed to come back is beyond me. I really would like to see just ONE superhero movie be brave enough to NOT shoehorn a damsel in distress into the plot.

    The Dark World Delivers

Thor the Dark World was a superb follow up to Thor. In my own opinion I believed that the original Thor was my favorite of all of the phase one Marvel movies. The Dark World came up big in so many different aspects. Living up to Thor and all the other Marvel movies, the Dark World's cinematography was breathtaking. Once again you are whisked back to the grandeur that is Asgard. Secondly Malekif and the Ether were great villain/supernatural object focuses. Without ruining anything the way the Ether ties in to the Marvel universe is epic as well. Overall a must have on blu-ray

Not only is this a much needed movie for your collection to fill in the void after the avengers, but this movie has Natalie Portman in it. Yes I said Natalie Portman, like and leia sky walkers mom, who's dating captain kirks daddy. If that's not enough nerdness in one movie for you to handle then just bury yourself under the rock of yours again and cry yourself to sleep because you'll spend the rest of your days alone. Idris Elba finally got to kick some but and hiddleston is back to his shinanegans! Got to get it bc nerd card revoked if you don't!

I found the first Thor movie marginally good. But felt overall, Iron Man had the better series of movies. However, the third Iron Man did not live up to the hype and so I went to see the second Thor movie begrudgingly. Within the first ten minutes I was hooked. So much better than the first, Thor: The Dark World was made very well. Everything from the acting, to the plot, to the finale, you are on an absolutely joy ride. This movie has no lulls and keeps the watcher engaged. In my opinion, this movie is now the standard for all future Marvel movies. Can't wait for part 3!

A great follow up sequel to the original Thor movie. Some would say even better. More action, more comic lure, more bad guys! Since i am specifically reviewing the steelbook version, i would just say that it is great that Marvel and Disney have resolved their issue with Scanavo. Those metalpacks and ironpacks just were not cutting it. The only thing i did not like is the lack of Special Features. The sticker on the front of the package would seem misleading as i finished all of the special features within 1 1/2 hrs. The Thor/Loki 2 part feature is the best of the bunch.

The second movie in the Thor franchise was even more entertaining than the first, and I liked the first. This one had a better cadence to it because the origin was already established, so there was more action and better humor. The movie was good, but the packaging options paramount chose were not so great. They only offered the digital copy with the overpriced and unwanted 3d blu ray version. I wish they would have done a blu ray, dvd and hd digital pack like the other studios are doing. Or they could have added more features and extras and priced the movies lower than they did, they dropped the ball in my opinion. That was my only disappointment, still a good movie to see and own.

This is a good action/ adventure movie and an entertaining flick but it suffers at many levels. It seems to loose a lot of the human connection which made the previous one enjoyable.

The movie was entertaining and had a lot more action vs the first Thor movie. The movie looks good in 3D but not as good as The Avengers or films that were actually shot in 3D. It had some nice depth in some parts. The coolest looking parts were when they were battling in the air. The sound is pretty good as well. My favorite part of the disc was the bonus movie called Marvel One Shot:All Hail the King. This alone makes it worth picking up this blu ray. It would've been nice if this included a DVD copy of the movie but I was surprised when redeeming the digital copy that I could select a Google Play version so I can watch the movie anytime I want on my Galaxy S3 or Nexus 7.

For a marvel comic movie, Thor packs a punch. I did not like it as much as the first film, but it was a good movie. Will it win an academy award? NO, but perhaps Hiddleston should. He makes an amazing Loki and perfects the dichotomy of the character and the little nuances he brings to the role really brings Loki to life. Hemsworth continues to bring forth all I envisioned of Thor and Eccelston was hardly recognizable in his role as the villain. The plot felt a little one sided at times, and the romance part felt a bit forced, but overall it was worth the money.

Anthony Hopkins adds drama and depth as Odin. Chris Hemsworth as Thor is a natural for a Norse god and we get to know his "human" side in this film. Natalie Portman's character sometimes seems a little out of touch for someone so intelligent but there is no doubt she loves Thor. Tom Hiddleston as Loki - well you just love to hate him but he does reveal a more vulnerable side despite his duplicity. There was more humor this time around to offset the darkness but the antics of Stellan Skarsgard were a little over the top. Loved this one as much as the first one!
