I can't go back to a normal controller now

PROS: - Excellent force feedback - Customizable options - Adjustable peddle heights - Adjustable brake resistance - Helpful dashboard display - Works with your PS4/5 and PC CONS: - Slides around hardwood floor - Shift paddles are really loud - Limited amount of supported games -- SETUP -- I would HIGHLY recommend using this with a racing wheel stand, Thrustmaster has the mount placement to let you use this with almost any universal stand on the market. I recommend a stand due to how much the pedal base slides around my hardwood floor (even with the rubber pads Thrustmaster includes). When on carpet, the rubber pads work well enough, so this really depends on where you plan on playing. Once you connect and power on the T248, you'll want to use the left menu button to select which system you're connected to. You just cycle between PS4, PS5, and PC. When connected to my PS4, the system would flat-out ignore the T248 until I selected the system on the wheel. It WILL NOT automatically detect what system it's connected to. -- PLAYING GAMES -- Unfortunately, you can't use the T248 with ANY racing game at the moment. Thrustmaster's website has a list of all games that are supported, and they're adding more games over time. If you're a big F1 fan, then you're in luck! When you are playing a supported title, such as Dirt 5, it's going to be almost impossible to go back to using a standard controller again. The level of immersion you gain from the force feedback is insane. If you have a VR headset, you'll LOVE adding the T248 to your system. The force feedback is really impressively powerful, so much so, that I'm curious to see how well the T248 holds up over time. I'm a little worried that it's going to rumble/vibrate itself to death at some point in the future. -- FINAL THOUGHTS -- I really love the T248, it takes playing racing games to a whole new level. I DARE you to use this and NOT smile. It's not perfect though: I really wish the rubber pads did a better job of keeping the pedal base in one spot on hardwood floors, the paddle shifters are really loud, and I need to wait for some of my favorite racing games to be supported at a later date. All of those are solved by using a racing wheel stand (easy enough to find online), a good pair of headphones, and a little patience while the list of supported games grows over time.

    It’s nice, but it’s different

I’ve used racing wheels of a different brand, so this is my first Thrustmaster wheel. Setup was pretty easy to my desk and was ready to plug in into the wall and my PS4… And there was my first issue. The USB and power cords were a little short. I had pull my PS4 closer to the wheel and had to find a different wall plug to power the wheel. Once past that minor issue, I was playing to play. I fired up F1 2021 and tested it out. The settings were similar to my previous wheel. If anything, it took me a while to get used to some buttons being is different positions. I tried a time trial and I went into turn 1….and the pedals moved and slipped across the carpet. There are feet on the pedals, but they’re no good on carpet. Luckily, we own carpet tape. Placed the carpet tape on the base of the pedals and the pedals stayed in place. If you don’t have carpet tape, a yoga mat will also work to provide grip. My other issue are the paddle shifters. The paddles are LOUD. They work, but they are LOUD. My last issue is the wheel itself. The outer part of the wheel has a leather feel, but the inner wheel is hard plastic and there’s no give. After a while, the hardness of the inner wheel does hurt my hands a little. Now that I’m done complaining, let’s talk what I like. The force feedback is very good as well as the wheel reaction. The one plus this wheel to my other wheel is you swap out the spring for the brake and make it tighter. Just changing the spring, I found an extra 2/10s of a second on one track. The next day, I tried using the wheel on Gran Turismo Sport. I honestly felt I had a better feel and reaction with GTS than I did with F1 2021. I feel that I’m getting more comfortable with the Thrustmaster T248 the more I use it. Overall, the wheel feels better, and sometimes different can be a good thing.

The T248 exceeded my expectations! I fired up Forza horizon 5, and while the telemetry screen didn't work, the game detected it right away! The feedback is amazing, the wheel feel is phenomenal. The brake pedal is a bit stiff, even on the weakest setup, so make sure you're against a wall or mounting your pedals. The paddle shifters have a stuff and authentic click, but I'm usually on automatic mode.

First this is my first feedback steering wheel with pedals. Oh my word, I did not know I was missing so much. First I used this on my desktop computer and no issues hooking it up or getting it to be comfortable. I read some the other reviews and not sure why they are so many issues with comfort but not an issue with me. I love the feedback and that it changed appropriately for various games, type of roads, weather, and do much more. The manual is not super heblpfulmbut I rather further it out as I go along, much more fun. The pedals work so good with the wheel and wow the feedback is unreal but so in keeping with whatever your playing and whatever the road conditions are and weather. The quality of the build is rock solid and I foresee yers of dependable play. Well worth the cost and on sale even more so. 5 stars easily and made me purchase two more racing games and will do so when they are on sale.

This unit is well built and the pedals come with springs to adjust the tension. One item I found out from working on it is if you have a PS5 you need to connect the unit to a PC to update the drivers. Once that was done the unit worked as it was built for. Currently there are only a few games that work with this unit but I am hoping there will be more coming out shortly or another update that may let you play ones that were not available earlier. The buttons work as programmed and you can adjust them as you would with a controller. The feedback is great and you can adjust settings as you see fit. I would purchase another unit from Thurstmaster again.

    Something to be Experienced

Setup Software setup is a little time consuming given that the firmware should be updated before using this device with the PS5. However, physical placement of the wheel and pedal is easy once you find the best surface. I used this with a desk, however, I believe a wheel stand would probably be most optimal for comfort. One gripe I did have is that there wasn’t much explanation for the encoders. Inadequate instructions for such a prominent feature would make it challenging for new drivers to sim racing. Look & Feel The steering wheel has a plastic finish, but it does have a solid feel to it. The pedals are sturdy, and should hold up well under normal usage. The wheel is a nice size, and has a smooth textured cover that were comfortable to my hands while driving. Buttons are tactile, and the wheel screen is a nice touch. I did wish the pedal shifters weren't so loud. Experience The T248 gives very compelling feedback. I wouldn’t say the wheel response is extremely realistic, but the response to certain scenarios makes racing more fun. I didn’t notice lag in my driving actions being reflected on the screen. Furthermore, adjusting sensitivity settings improved my experience greatly, and something I encourage all drivers to do. Verdict The Thrustmaster T248 is a very good racing set. It has a great design and provides awesome performance. It’s definitely enjoyable and guaranteed to hold up.

Nice wheel and I played mostly on PC, but it just takes too much space. unless you're only playing racing games this is hard to work with as it takes up your whole desk and you have nowhere to put it. If I was playing on a PS5 I also am not sure that the cord is long enough, my PC is beside me and it barley reaches. Again, its a nice wheel but you need to mount it and it takes up the whole desk. The peddles then are light and for me at least keep moving. On the nice side, this provides force feedback so its a step up when playing a racing game vs a controllers. The PC app you download also lets you customize this quite a bit so you can make it work, though most racing games support it directly. Maybe for me as a casual racing player its just not for me, and I don't have anything but a controller to compare it to. Its nice but just takes up too much room and too hard to setup and then take down that I don't really use it much as its a hassle and I don't have the space for a separate space for just this.

Since I love racing games, I was excited to try out this racing wheel. First impressions are it is very sturdy and feel authentic to what a wheel should feel like. It's responsive but not "loose" when driving. The controls are in a good position and easy to reach. The setup and configuration of the device is intuitive as well. I would highly recommend this product!

Are you looking to step up your racing wheel experience? Look no further than the ThrustmasterT248! This upgraded racing wheel has some of the best wheel feedback I have ever experienced in a racing simulator. This model adds the digital display and a stronger motor feedback that has realistic resistance while turning in racing simulators. The Thrustmaster seamless connected to my PS5 system and allowed easy hookup to racing rig via boots to tighten down. The pedals connected in same manner which took all of 10minutes to bolt down and hook up. The racing games instantly recognized the wheel and allowed for adjustments. The pedals had realistic pedal feedback and wheel response. I felt my racing experience was greatly enhanced! Highly recommend!

    calibration kaput

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

After fewer than 30 hours of play, my T248 exhibited the random twitching behavior at startup -- stuck in a mode of jerking back and forth. This behavior indicates that the unit cannot not auto-calibrate as it should do every time the unit is powered on. If the unit cannot auto-calibrate, then it will not be recognized by the console or PC. The reason it cannot auto-calibrate is due to motor failure. This is problem is actually quite common with Thrustmaster wheels across all of their models, not just the T248. If you simply Google “thrustmaster calibration problem,” you will find many other complaints in forums and among consumer reviews describing a variation of the same auto-calibration failure behavior, some with short video clips. A disproportionate number of those complaints seem to regard the T300RS/GT. But many complaints regard other models from the bottom to the top of the TM product line, including the high-end T-GT II. If this, or any problem, occurs within the warranty period of 1-yr (US), Thrustmaster will duly replace/repair the unit. Outside the warranty period, they will offer to have it repaired by their authorized servicer for a flat rate of $70 plus a return shipping fee of $30, not to mention the cost of sending it to their repair center. I will also note that the only way to contact Thrustmaster to handle such cases is through the technical support page on their website. Their phone line is impossible to reach -- open only two hours per day, just four days per week. I did discover a way to calibrate my wheel by hand so that it would be recognized by my console and PC, but since the motor is dead, the wheel only functions as a steering device with no force-feedback (FFB) effects whatsoever other than random weak attempts of the motor to engage the drive system. Bottom line: Thrustmaster’s flawed belt or hybrid drive design will eventually suffer a motor failure, the only question is whether it will happen before or after the warranty expires. As a footnote, although I only used this T248 fewer than 30 hours, it was out of warranty. It was a wheel I had set up on a secondary rig and used infrequently. The wheel on my primary rig is a Fanatec ClubSport DD. Thrustmaster doesn’t even begin to compare to the superior direct-drive design of Fanatac in terms of performance and reliability.
