My freshman has a backpack with a built-in padded sleeve for laptops, but the Thule Gauntlet sleeve adds an extra level of protection while still being able to fit in the backpack sleeve. It also provides protection when the laptop is out of the backpack, but not currently in use. The thing I like most about the Gauntlet's design is that it provides better protection in the event of a drop than many of the cheaper sleeves that really only provide scratch protection.
