You would need to be close to be able to find it as the whole Tile ecosystem is limited to count on other users locating your device. Apple airtags would be better for this.... but he has an android phone and that is not an option. Currently the best option for Android

Then I hid the keys in several of my usual forgetful spots. One spot was in a coat closet, and when the door was closed, I could barely hear it. In the future, I'll have to check the closet with the door open, but wish it was louder.
