This is a great option for DVR and to replace cable box. Love TiVo service and would recommend it highly.

I have really enjoyed the online app integration with the UI, and the speed at which everything loads.

I upgraded from a Ramio to the Bolt. The main reason I upgraded is that I could get a new Tivo with 1 year of service, trade my Roamio and come out saving money over renewing my service. The key new features are the Skip and Quickmode. Yes they are nice but are they worth paying more over a Roamio, I have yet to find that.

    Tivo is the best DVR

I have had other Tivo dvrs and this is a definite upgrade from the previous generations of Tivo. It is super-fast. And if you have never tried a Tivo, you don't know what you're missing. Yes, Tivo may appear more expensive... (I say appear, because after you add up how much you're paying your cable provider to rent a DVR and pay for the service, it will eventually break even and start to save money... but mileage may vary)... But comparing Tivo to a cable company DVR is like comparing an iPad to a cheap no-name tablet... Tivo's user experience and ease of use blows away any cable company DVR. This one has pretty much solved the all-in-one with the apps they include. And you can use this Tivo for either OTA recording or you can use it with your cable company (cable only, not satellite or U-verse). All you need is a Cable CARD from your cable company and then you don't need their cable box! There's where you can save some money to get this much, much, much better DVR.

So Much Better than Cable Co. DVR, but...

I love the TiVo Bolt when compared to a cable company DVR. The UI is so much better, and having searches return results from the TV Guide, Netflix, Amazon, etc. is fantastic. Streaming Netflix 4k content directly from the DVR is awesome. I was very disappointed that the Bolt will not (yet) stream 4k content from Amazon. TiVo Tech Support says that the capability will be activated "soon", but the review loses 1 star for the fact that it's not available already.

No cable owners rejoice. You can now record your programs from antenna TV just like all the cable TV people can. the skip button is awesome, but be aware not all shows have it and it is quite addicting. The downside is no downloading of apps- so be aware it is only what is already loaded onto the Tivo- even though there is an "add apps" feature discussed. The manual is not worth downloading, but the customer service is greta. Check it out.

Best Alternative to Cable Company's Boxes

I've been a Windows Media Center User for many years in addition to having two boxes from the cable company. Media Center was not solid enough for the wife and kids. Since getting the Bolt 500 with two Tivo Minis, I found that it works well enough to get rid of Media Center and the boxes from the cable company. Tivo keeps updating their software. For example, I just noticed that HBO Go is now available as a source for videos.

Pros: Happy with speed. It is powerful and responsive. 4 tuners is plenty and 500 GB is too. Cons: commercial skip is great except for the fact not not all shows have it. In fact, most don't. Also, we can watch our shows remotely as promised. Only if you're using the same WiFi where the TiVo is. This is nice but not as promised.

Since this is the first generation of the 4k Tivo I was concerned about early-adopter issues. I am using an Aerial HD Antenna and have YT, Netflix and Amazon all linked through the Tivo Bolt. The Netflix 4k experience rivals any smart-tv built-in app since it Does deliver a 4k picture. If you have Comcast ask for the CableCard! Well worth the $!

Makes a seamless transition for cable cutters. Allows OTA channels to be recorded. Allows for streaming channels from Netflix and others. The great thing is that TiVo offers the Mini that can work with Bolt so that all my TV's will be connected.

Easy to use, love recording multiple shows. I liked the search on my old TiVo better, but am working through this one. I don't use the streaming feature so I can't comment on that. It does take a few hours to set up, downloading updates, etc.

We got a 50 mile HD antennae and this pulls in every major Austin area station (KEYE, KXAN, KVUE, KLRU . . . and 27 others!). Just connect the antennae to the back of the Tivo and you can record just about any show you need. I believe it even records shows off of HULU (although we haven't yet subscribed). We also got Amazon Firesticks, and we subscribe to Netflix. Cancelled my $157/month DirecTv account! Not missing it at all. As a bonus today I found out that Suddenlink in our area offers unlimited data for just $5 more than what we were spending. So, no fear of binge watching! And, the button to skip commercials is so easy to use. It takes a little bit getting used to the remote, but once you get it figured out it works just great.

This is a great device to get off cable and still get all the entertainment you need. It is fast and reliable. Only disappointment is that the commercial skip feature they advertised is seldom available. That should get better in the future.
