Good movie. 4k helps make movies I’ve never watched more palatable to my low expectations. But, good movie.

Came without slipcover but in good condition. Really good 4k version of the movie.

Top Gun is easily one of my all time favorite movies. The film tells the story of hot shot pilot Maverick played by Tom Cruise (Mission Impossible Franchise, Edge of Tomorrow), who is sent to the Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School, Maverick befriends Goose played by Anthony Edwards (ER, Zodiac), when his cocky personality put him at odds with the other pilots including Iceman played by Val Kilmer (Batman Forever, The Saint). It then turns out Maverick isn't only competing to be top fighter, he is also fighting for the attention of the gorgeous flight instructor, Charlie Blackwood played by Kelly McGillis (Witness, Cat Chaser). All the actors do great in their roles especially Tom Cruise who really made Maverick his own. The film also features Tim Robbins (The Shawsank Redemption, Green Lantern) and Michael Ironside (Starship Troopers, Total Recall). I love everything about Top Gun, I love the soundtrack, the characters, the story, the quotes and the movie itself. I can't wait for the sequel that's coming next year.

This is a good movie. Now it is 4K better then before.

Nice to have the upgrade only thing missing is the slip cover.

Good old movie, improved sound and picture quality

good upgrade, packaging was good, timely delivery.

I love this movie - so many one-liners that are life lessons; e.g.: "Never leave your wingman". BTW, I'll be lined up to buy the 8K version someday, since I have nearly every format this movie was released on going back to VHS and Beta. REVIEW: The 4K is not that noticeable (I have a 150" curved screen -- I'd see it!). As for the Atmos mix - it made the purchase well worth it! As the son of a USAF pilot, I grew up hearing jets fly over the base. The Atmos flyovers really made me feel like I was there (at Mirmar) on the base with them. Exactly what immersive sound is meant to do - put you in the scene!

Movie: in the crowded category of guilty pleasures this one slides right in there like Maverick gaining position on Jester’s tail. Many scenes haven’t aged particularly well and some overdone “oh so eighties” moments will stick with you unpleasantly. But there’s just enough air action and ice cool Iceman Val Kilmer in easily his most iconic role to make up for the cloying and flat out unbelievable romance between Cruse boy and apparently cradle-robbing McGillis woman. Anthony Edwards is great and Meg Ryan a delightful bonus. But top billing should have gone to the F-14 Tomcat with Iceman as main costar. 4K Rendition: very solid, looks and sounds great!

Collecting DVd’s in this era feels weird but this is worth the buy

Full of 80s machismo and shirtless volleyball, Tony Scott's Top Gun is an over-the-top cheese-tacular action flick that somehow grew into a cultural phenomenon. The movie catapulted Tom Cruise's career into mega-stardom while also raising the number of naval recruits at the same time, and it strangely endures both as an 80s fan favorite and as the butt of many, many jokes. The classic actioner flies into the Ultra HD danger zone with a beautiful 4K Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos presentation that surpasses previous HD SDR releases, making this the best the movie has ever looked and sounded. With an identical set of bonuses joined by a pair of new featurettes, the overall UHD package is recommended.

Highest fidelity (Dolby Atmos) and Highest resolution 4K (Dolby Vision) mean this is the best it will ever sound and look. For being made in 1986 it is a fun to watch film. It is 4K but the original had softer focus so don’t expect to be counting rivets on the planes and as Dolby Atmos didn’t exist don’t expect miracles there either. It does use the height channels a little and sometimes the back, but it is a very forward staged film. That being said it still delivers a great presentation. If you already have the Blu-Ray and a 5.1 system, keep what you have. But if you have the 4K HDR tv and a Atmos speaker setup then this is worth your $$$. If you a fan of extras this will not disappoint.

First off, my home theater isn't set up for Dolby Vision or Atmos. That said, I still see an improved picture quality from a 2013 Blu-Ray which I already own. (For example, the sequences when the camera is in the cockpit seems more real.) Also, I actually like the warmer color timing from other releases. The 2013 Blu-Ray, however, does have the louder sound projection of the F-14s through my soundbar (Samsung HW-Q60T). (Apparently, the disc was praised in review for that.) Consequently, I still own that copy just in case I "feel the need".

Top Gun was originally shot in Super 35 format in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio. For this Ultra HD release, the original camera negative was scanned in 4K, remastered, and adds high dynamic range (this disc includes both Dolby Vision and HDR10 options). It’s so much better than the 2008 Blu-ray release that its frankly hard to believe. Run out and get this!

I'm reviewing the 4K UHD disc, not the film itself (I imagine many would-be purchasers are already familiar with the movie). This is an excellent transfer - it does a great job replicating the look of film, HDR subtly enhances the image (and is not applied with a heavy hand), and the audio is nice and powerful too. I'd call this the definitive home video version, and it is improved enough over previous versions to warrant a re-purchase if you're a fan of the movie.

If you have never seen TOP GUN the 4K version is the route to go. If you have seen TOP GUN you have never REALLY seen or heard TOP GUN, The 4K restoration is demonstration worthy. Throw out those old DVDs and Blu-rays and make room for this version in your collection. Hopefully you took advantage of Best Buy's Black Friday Day Sale.

There has never been a more watchable and enjoyable military recruiting effort than Top Gun. This tale of Navy pilots attending an elite school for dogfighting at the tail end of the cold war is sexy, cool, funny and thrilling. I loved this film when I was six years old an revisiting it in my 30s didn't diminish how much I enjoyed it. The 4k presentation is excellent and mercifully faithful to what it must have been like to see it in theaters. Highly recommended.

This is probably my fifth or sixth copy of this movie starting with the original vhs copy. This movie looked great in blu-ray and it looks even better in 4k. The extras are also worth watching and it comes with a digital copy and a blu-ray copy. I can hardly wait until the new movie is released which I am sure that I will buy the dvd when it comes out.

A classic made even better with stunning 4K! Thanks BB for having this on an early Black Friday sale(only $7.99)... just in time for a rewatch too, as I just picked-up the new installment, TOP GUN: MAVERICK. Too bad the original director didn't live long enough to make the sequel. Rest in peace, Tony Scott.
