I am really pleased with this version to Top Gun. The artwork of the steel case design is really well done. The 4K UHD recut is crisp and I definitely notice the differences compared to the older formatted versions of the movie. However, the Dolby Atmos recut of the movie’s audio is even better! I have purchased multiple 4K UHD Blu ray movies for my new home theatre setup and this version of Top Gun offers the best Dolby Atmos experience. I highly recommend adding this movie to your collection, even if you do not have a Dolby Atmos setup, you will still be pleased with the audio quality.

Another great movie on Blu-ray looks & sounds great

Like most people we saw this movie decades ago and really enjoyed it but we never added a DVD to our home collection. BUT, after seeing the new Maverick Top Gun we just had to get our own copy so we could watch it again, and back to back against the new one. Why? There is something in the new movie that ties back to the original that we couldn't remember so we're going back just to satisfy curiosity.

First off, my home theater isn't set up for Dolby Vision or Atmos. That said, I still see an improved picture quality from a 2013 Blu-Ray which I already own. (For example, the sequences when the camera is in the cockpit seems more real.) Also, I actually like the warmer color timing from other releases. The 2013 Blu-Ray, however, does have the louder sound projection of the F-14s through my soundbar (Samsung HW-Q60T). (Apparently, the disc was praised in review for that.) Consequently, I still own that copy just in case I "feel the need".

Top Gun has always been a favorite movie of mine. I can sit and watch Top Gun over and over all day. I have the DVD, the regular Blu-Ray, and now I have the Steel Book Edition too. I enjoy military movies and shows like Top Gun. I like the fighter planes and I enjoy watching them in the air. I can't wait for Top Gun: Maverick to come out so I can add it to my collection. This movie has mild sexual situations and mild sexual talk. And some bad language.
