Great actioner about the lives and loves of the Top Guns, the Naval Academy's best fighter pilots.

Wow, if you were around in 1986 to catch the movie at the theaters when it first came out, you would remember all the great jet fighter scenes and the fly boy experiences. I will tell you think this: I really enjoyed watching this Blue Ray movie on my Best Buy 75" Samsung UHD Big Screen with my Best Buy sound system. It really brought back a lot of great memories that I relived sitting on my comfortable recliner with an ice cold soda in my hand. Great movie! I would definitely recommend it for viewing again and again!

This should be a film that is in any Top Gun, Tom Cruise, or film fan's collection, especially now that Top Gun: Maverick is out. It's a film that never gets old no matter how many times you've seen it. Tough to beat its great soundtrack, tons of memorable quotes and action sequences, and more extras than many other releases from its era.

Top Gun was originally shot in Super 35 format in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio. For this Ultra HD release, the original camera negative was scanned in 4K, remastered, and adds high dynamic range (this disc includes both Dolby Vision and HDR10 options). It’s so much better than the 2008 Blu-ray release that its frankly hard to believe. Run out and get this!

Cant beat this film!! All time classic! Always entertaining, no matter how many time I watch it.

I'm reviewing the 4K UHD disc, not the film itself (I imagine many would-be purchasers are already familiar with the movie). This is an excellent transfer - it does a great job replicating the look of film, HDR subtly enhances the image (and is not applied with a heavy hand), and the audio is nice and powerful too. I'd call this the definitive home video version, and it is improved enough over previous versions to warrant a re-purchase if you're a fan of the movie.

There has never been a more watchable and enjoyable military recruiting effort than Top Gun. This tale of Navy pilots attending an elite school for dogfighting at the tail end of the cold war is sexy, cool, funny and thrilling. I loved this film when I was six years old an revisiting it in my 30s didn't diminish how much I enjoyed it. The 4k presentation is excellent and mercifully faithful to what it must have been like to see it in theaters. Highly recommended.

From the opening beats of Faltermeyer's score, to the riveting flight scenes, this movie got a lot of love in the 4k department. The picture is mostly clean, with some signs of age (but that is okay), and the Atmos audio has a lot to offer your ears (bass has a slight softness though). You want an older movie to feel fresh? Then here's a proper offering. If you can't get the steelbook, the regular set is identical in disc offerings.

If you have never seen TOP GUN the 4K version is the route to go. If you have seen TOP GUN you have never REALLY seen or heard TOP GUN, The 4K restoration is demonstration worthy. Throw out those old DVDs and Blu-rays and make room for this version in your collection. Hopefully you took advantage of Best Buy's Black Friday Day Sale.

Sometimes it's good to watch the old movies in high definition and enjoy them again.

I saw this movie in the local theater when it was first released. I thought it was a fantastic movie then and it is still a great movie in my opinion. I think the video and audio were great in this Blu-ray edition. I always have been a fan of Tom Cruise and enjoy every movie he has appeared in. I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys aviation type movies.

The iconic character, Maverick, ,had to start somewhere and this is it. The sequel Maverick Top Gun took twenty years to get on film and was worth the weight, but it all started here with Top Gun. Important to see this first to appreciate the sequel and the Cruise/Kilmer - Maverick/Iceman relationship on and off the camera.

Top Gun has to be one of the greatest movies of the 80's. I still love it today.

This is probably my fifth or sixth copy of this movie starting with the original vhs copy. This movie looked great in blu-ray and it looks even better in 4k. The extras are also worth watching and it comes with a digital copy and a blu-ray copy. I can hardly wait until the new movie is released which I am sure that I will buy the dvd when it comes out.

My first 4k copy had to be replaced, it stuttered and pixelated at the scene where the CAG chewed out Maverick and Goose for the carrier tower fly by. Thankfully the replacement disk had no problems. In the late 70's i was stationed at NAS Miramar, a young AE working on F-14s. So I get a little nostalgic with this movie, I really enjoyed this movie, when it first opened and now, even though I have to overlook some inaccurate proceedures, system functions and flight capabilities of the F-14 as depicted in the movie. It still is, non the less, an outstanding film, the 4k transfer is the best one yet both for visuals and sound. If you "feel the need, the need for speed"... then put this one in your collection. Color and sound are excellent. This is always a fun film to watch. I’ve owned previous versions including the first Blu-ray, the 3-D, and now the 4K. Other than the 3-D version, I probably won’t ever watch the Blu-ray version again. It was nice to see the original Paramount/Gulf Western logo, as it was when it released in theaters, the first BluRay had replaced the logo with the 90th Anniversary version,

A classic made even better with stunning 4K! Thanks BB for having this on an early Black Friday sale(only $7.99)... just in time for a rewatch too, as I just picked-up the new installment, TOP GUN: MAVERICK. Too bad the original director didn't live long enough to make the sequel. Rest in peace, Tony Scott.

While this is nothing new for the most part aged well with the upscale. There is still a high Film Grain so if you are expecting a pristine picture you will be disappointed. The Atmos sound offers great spacial depth during a lot of the air combat scenes but falls flat in other scenes.

Such a great movie!! Bought this as a gift for my boyfriend!! He loved it!!

Hadn't seen this movie since late 80s but because of the success & awesomeness of the sequel, I decided to give it a try on blu-ray. The blu-ray quality overall wasn't as good as I thought it would be. It was grainy. It was fun to see the movie again but wish the HD quality was more crisp. I've seen movies older than this converted to blu-ray & look spectacular, like the 1st Rambo. This one, not so much. Still recommended because of its tie to the sequel.
