    fun flick

The film which inspired many to join the Navy. Tom Cruise is a maverick pilot who is trying to leave his mark while romancing his instructor (Kelly McGillis). The romance is lifeless, and the climax (involving U.S. & Soviet planes) has obviously dated the film. On the plus side, Cruise & Anthony Edwards (as his sidekick) make a nice team, & I love that "Danger Zone" song.

3D Not as impressive as I thought

I was disappointed with the 3D enhancement of Top Gun. To get a good 3D effect, you have to film in 3D... The movie is still good and enjoyed watching it again, it is not worth buying again for the 3D effects. Nothing comes at you, etc. The 3D adds some depth but that's about all. Much of the time you can view the movie without the 3D glasses.

    Poor 3D and Sound Sync

Okay this is not really about the movie. The movie is pretty good. This review is about the 3D Blu-Ray. This is the only 3D movie that I could not get the sound to match up with the dialog. The mouths would move then a few seconds later the voice would come out of the speakers. I do not think this is my equipment since I have never had this problem on any other 3D movie I've watched and I have watched about 20 of them. The Picture quality is very bad too. I was going to pull out my VHS tape to see if maybe it was filmed that way but I have not had the time to do so. There are points in the movie when they are in the cockpit that the color and grainy picture is so bad you just want to take off your 3D glasses and go... Is this really that bad. and yes it is that bad. A co-worker asked if I was going to return it but since I've already watched it I don't think I can return it for a full refund so I'll just set it aside to show people how bad a 3D movie can be.

    Great Movie...Not so Great 3D

Don't get me wrong I absolutely love Top Gun, but the transition to 3D is a rocky one at best. Obviously it wasn't shot with 3D in mind but still, I don't think they did a very good job with the upgrade. Obviously if you're a movie buff like me then this is a must own but I'd stick to the regular Blu Ray and not the 3D.

'Top Gun' is a movie that just didn't do anything for me. I had heard great things about it, but upon viewing it, was utterly disappointed. Anyway, for those who do enjoy this one, here is a good collector's edition with plenty of goodies included.

    Great Movie! Horrible Steelbook...

This review is not about the movie, we all know it's good. Instead this review is of the steelbook. Every single steelbook of Top Gun from bestbuy I've came across has the part that is supposed to hold the disc secure is always broken, so the blu ray is loose inside the steelbook and moves around during shipping with the broken plastic and every time the disc is scratched. That's probably why it's only $10 now. You'd expect the steelbook to have better protection for the discs inside, in this case it is not true what so ever.

Save your $$$$ on 3D version

If you already own this on Blu Ray don't waste your money on the 3D version. I saw this at the IMAX and was so unimpressed at the lack of 3D. These movies that aren't shot in real 3D that they are revising to 3D usually don't cut it. This is one to stay away from!

Movie Looks Great! It Sounds Like Garbage.. Not Made For A Sound Bar System or Any for that Matter. I Would Have Sent it Back If I Didn't Notice it Till it Was To Late

Poor quality blu ray like watching copy of a VHS

Loved Top Gun when it first came out on VHS, have the DVD, and thought the Blu Ray 3D would be an added plus. 3D is SO SO at best, and the lack of picture quality makes it hard to watch like watching a copy of copy of the original VHS tape. Could not believe how grainy the picture was. If you like Top Gun, don't waste your money on the 3D version.

this full-screen dvd version alters the original theatrical aspect ratios of the movies from 2.35:1 to 1.33:1, giving a you a picture that is much different than what was originally seen in the theater. Buy the widescreen version instead.
