Check you 4k disc right away. Someone stole the digital code out of the packaging or it was returned and reshipped as new with slight scuff marks on the case. I don't open these right away as I make it through my collection I found out.

Picture quality on the blue ray disc is quite poor for 4K. The digital copy has a better picture. Atmos is almost non-existent. That latter is such a waist with so many scenes having planes flying overhead. I bought the disc because the picture and sound quality are better than the streaming version due to higher compression. However, very poor mastering. It's not worth buying the blue ray disc. Very disappointed! I want my money back. I have a compatible blue ray player -- Sony UBP-X800. My TV is LG OLED 77CX, the AVR is SonySTR-DN1080 7.1 channel with Dolby Atmos. My Atmos speakers are Klipsch RP-500SA Reference Premiere Dolby Atmos. This setup plays back very good picture and sound when the source is good, of course.

Why do people leave reviews for old movies in 4k? If you're buying old movies in 4k format is because you've seen it! So my review is based on the 4k quality... which is terrible! Extremely grainy, the 4k just points out all of the flaws in the movie! The HDR is pretty much non existent... the only area I saw improvement was the sound! If you have this movie in any other format, I would advise not to upgrade! Saw some reviews of people praising the 4k version... I really wonder what TV they're using! I have an OLED with an Atmos set up and with the exception of the audio this movie transfer was terrible!

I have always loved this movie from the first time I saw it 30 years ago. This review is not about the movie. This review is about the 3D Blu ray quality of video and audio. I purchased the Blu ray version of Top Gun last year and was disappointed in that it seemed like a blu ray version of the VHS tape of Top Gun I had from the 80's. So, I hoped this 3D version would truly be a 1080p experience. The menus are beautiful. Upon seeing this, I was excited that maybe this version of Top Gun was worthy. However, once I clicked Play, the movie starts out dark and highly grainy and stays that way throughout. The 3D effects are flat for a 3D movie. The audio is listed as 5.1 True HD, but its weak and lacks punch. To say the least, I wished I had my money back on this one.

My review is NOT about the movie itself, but about the horrible 4K quality, or lack thereof. The purchase of this movie in "4K" has made me decide never to buy any older movies that have been artificially converted to a fake 4K anymore. At times I felt it looked even worse than the DVD I own, extremely grainy and fuzzy. In my opinion, the upconversion from my 4K player of the DVD is just as good (or bad) as this disc, which pretty much defeats the purpose of buying this. I will stick to movies that were filmed in HD and Ultra HD from now on. Still love Top Gun though.

I know some "film purists" out there say graininess in movies is somehow good or not to be complained about. In this movie the graininess (I would actually call it digital noise) is unbearable. It is most noticeable in sky scenes which is "only" like half of the movie! And it's not my player or TV....I'm viewing this on a Sony Master Series OLED and playing it through a Panasonic DP-UB 9000. For a 4K movie to look this bad is frankly unforgivable.

This 4K release of the original is a TRAVESTY!! The so called “up scale” is an embarrassment to to this movie classic! I had such high hopes for this movie. If I could give this a NO STAR rating I would. The movie in 4K looks washed out and pixelated. If feels like they tried too hard to remake this movie with today’s technology. SAVE YOUR MONEY, Dont buy this in 4K

I'm very disappointed with the image quality of this Top Gun movie. There are numerous scenes where the images are so grainy, that make you think you're watching a DVD version. I have a Blue Ray version of this same movie with better viewing images. I hope their sequel of this movie has better and true 4K images.

Buyer beware when you buy anything from Best Buy that comes in damage it’s not returnable and also was missing the digital copy. This is like the fifth time with the case comes broken in these items are not returnable about multiple movies and games and I’m getting tired of it.

SHIPPED TO MY HOME AND CAME IN DAMAGED DUE TO VERY POOR PACKAGING BY YOUR WAREHOUSE SHIPPING DEPARTMENT. IT LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE SHOT THE STEELBOOK WITH A BB GUN AND THEN TIRED TO FOLD IT IN HALF. STEELBOOKS SHOULD BE SHIPPED ONY IN BOXES, NEVER IN THE BAGS THAT BB ALWAYS USES!!!!

I know i'll get blasted but im entitled to my own opinion. Don't get the hype about Top Gun. I had never seen it and was excited to watch but quite a let down. Hopefully the reboot will be better.

This wasn’t 4K quality-the 1080p quality was better. The disc also stuck at one point.

Bought as a Christmas gift. Wouldn't play. Took it back to the store but they had none in stock, so they had to order one. Won't be in until the first week of February. Disappointing.

Bad remake fuzzy poor viewing. Total waste of money, we quit watching after 5 minutes. Trash.

I would recommend this cd set, it's awesome. Great behind the scens disk also.

Okay this is not really about the movie. The movie is pretty good. This review is about the 3D Blu-Ray. This is the only 3D movie that I could not get the sound to match up with the dialog. The mouths would move then a few seconds later the voice would come out of the speakers. I do not think this is my equipment since I have never had this problem on any other 3D movie I've watched and I have watched about 20 of them. The Picture quality is very bad too. I was going to pull out my VHS tape to see if maybe it was filmed that way but I have not had the time to do so. There are points in the movie when they are in the cockpit that the color and grainy picture is so bad you just want to take off your 3D glasses and go... Is this really that bad. and yes it is that bad. A co-worker asked if I was going to return it but since I've already watched it I don't think I can return it for a full refund so I'll just set it aside to show people how bad a 3D movie can be.

This review is not about the movie, we all know it's good. Instead this review is of the steelbook. Every single steelbook of Top Gun from bestbuy I've came across has the part that is supposed to hold the disc secure is always broken, so the blu ray is loose inside the steelbook and moves around during shipping with the broken plastic and every time the disc is scratched. That's probably why it's only $10 now. You'd expect the steelbook to have better protection for the discs inside, in this case it is not true what so ever.
