i was debating myself for a while to buy this ,, the 4k .. and because the new topgun still has not released ,, i been just waiting and waitin and waitin ,,, i broke down .. . i agree with all the low ratings ,, this is not 4k or close .. i got topgun vcr when it came out ..also remember watching it with a projector sceen it was grainy too .. so it did not disappoint me watching the 4k .. and from my very first viewing in the 80's ,, i thought back ,, girls donna fall for a guy just like that .. campy story ,but then again ,, i donna have the cruze good looks .. and of course all movies are like that .. , but ..... i wanna see the jets ,, the infamous F14 ,, love the looks , love the flying ,, love the chase .. and to see for myself the new 4k .. and since i seen this movie a lot aready ... my first 4k viewing was just the jets and on my sound system to enjoy ,,, and i just fastforwarded everything else .. so it will now sit in my collection for a later time .. when i have the need , the need for speed ..

I wasn't a huge fan of the film, but the 4K is stunning and the best way to watch the movie.

It's a classic. If you are looking for character development and depth, this isn't your kind of movie. However, if you like action and want to be entertained, you'll enjoy it. This wasn't a huge budget movie even during it's time, so the plot does feel a little cheesy and the editing is a little rough, but the characters are fun and the flight sequence still hold up really well. The 80's soundtrack is what it is -- equal parts cheesy and fun. It's a definite upgrade from the old DVD, but doesn't appear to be a remaster. The colors are somewhat muted, there is a fair bit of grain throughout, and the detail level bounces around a bit. The audio is pretty darn good for a film from the 80's. Unless you hate Tom Cruise, you'll enjoy it... I did.

Good classic movie. Definitely worth the $5 purchase!

First off, the movie is what it is. Lots of site for you to get reviews on the film itself. I wouldn't have bought this if I didn't like the film and want it to be a part of my collection. I am a huge Steelbook fan, so I was very excited to find out Paramount was releasing a bunch of catalog titles in Blu-ray Steelbooks. I bought this along with 4 others in the same trip to Best Buy on the first day of their release. I was very disappointed to realize that Paramount chose to only include the first of the two discs that make up this title's BD release in non-steelbook packaging. That means for longer titles you get no special features. No UV or digital copy, either. Very disappointing, but still didn't deter me.

Not worth the full price. Even Dolby Vision only makes this version only marginally better than the Blu-Ray. In the 80's this movie on VHS Stereo was the marque they measured AV Stereo systems with. Today, even Dolby Atmos cannot help the old tech. It does sound better than the Blu-Ray for overall sound, but for enveloping sound of today's Dolby Atmos, it is just not there. I did find the movie worth the upgrade from Blu-Ray for the Black Friday sale price though.

As was always the case, Top Gun is a classic and has thrilled audiences for its manpower, audacity, passion and human spirit. As a Limited 3D Edition, the flying sequences are exciting, but they were thrilling even when not in 3D. Pass on this 3D adaptation.

For a movie this old, I was very surprised at how crisp the picture looked. One of the best blu-ray transfers I've seen. The 3D has a few hiccups, but all in all it looks quite nice. A lot of effort went into it. I'm not a huge fan of classics, but this one wasn't bad. However, there are a lot of jokes followed by a serious tonal change. This movie didn't really know what it wanted to be. Very impressive movie for the year though.

Very inaccurate movie. My wife was in the Navy and loves to pick apart all of the inaccuracies. Still, she likes it and since we have Maverick on blue ray, why not.

I watched this online streaming in 4K and it was amazing so I wanted to buy it. Totally disappointed in this, maybe it was the player by it looked just like it did when it came out. Not like the 4K streaming version that blew me away.

Average.. the 4K was very grainy..checked connections.. tv setting.. also purchased GOT season 8 in 4 k... GREAT looking in 4 k. I have a couple of other 4K flicks that look grainy.

While no real changes are made to the same old movie everyone knows the improved depth and imagery given by adding the 3-D technology will add to the enjoyment for those fans who are actual aviation enthusiasts. Improved video and sound helps to give a somewhat weak movie in it's original form a little boost.

I bought this 4k copy hoping to enjoy the surround of all the planes flying. I know my Atmos sound system is not reference quality, but I don't get the same effect as Hacksaw Ridge or Narnia...

Loved this movie for the last 15 years. Actually, no other movie is over this on dog-fighting ever since. The movie includes fun, action, love and tragedy. However the 3D effect is not impressive. Anyway, still love it and watch the movie just after coming back from store.

I love this movie growing up and that’s why I bought it in ultra HD. I just wish that it’ll be more clearer or enhanced. I really can’t tell the difference between this one or Blu-ray.

The 4k version was really grainy. Yes I'm aware the original wasn't filmed in 4k and had to be digitally up-converted. I'm saying you'll be fine with the blue-ray only version.

Come on, It's Top Gun. Goose, Maverick, IceMan and those other guys. It's just cool because. And that's pretty much it. If you loved it then, you'll still enjoy it now.

Never had Top Gun on DVD so it was good time to get in 3D. 3D nothing great to speak of and the audio was a bit disappointing. It did not sound much better than my old Pro Logic surround system on a VHS tape. None the less good to have a Blu-Ray copy.

I have seen Top Gun a few times and i enjoyed it. I haven't heard much about the 4K tranfser so i wanted to give this a chance. It has a great steelbook case.
