    Nice TV but...

I got this television on with a doorbuster on black Friday. I can see why it was only $199. It's a Toshiba 49" television with google cast in it. The remote control is dumbed down. There is no number pad to directly input a channel. Your smartphone is your remote using google home app and the Toshiba remote app which has a nice variety of options including a number pad. With the remote app you can turn off the television but can't turn it on. You have to use the button on the television or the remote that came with it. When pulling the television from the box, it's stickers on the back have Best Buy on them. So I imagine it was some collaboration with Best Buy. I have no idea why unless it has to do with cost or Best Buy gaining information about habits or perhaps to encourage recycling the television with Best Buy when it finally dies out of warranty. As for quality: It has a nice picture and the sound is alright for it's price point. I use it in my bedroom. There are several things I don't like about it. First is the firmware updates that come at inconvenient times and forces a "reboot" of the television while you may be watching a movie. Then you have to start over again. Second, it seems to disconnect from the network often. I have it connected wired and it seems to prefer the wireless connection first. I'd prefer it just use the wired connection since I provided one for it. There is little documentation on the television but it's fairly easy to figure out. Toshiba has a manual at their website if you had to use it. I would recommend this television to others but I got it at less than half it's retail price so I'm not sure someone would want to pay $449 for it now. I'd recommend saving more for a higher quality television unless you're a die hard Toshiba fan. We have Samsung and LG televisions in other parts of our home and they are higher end televisions. I think that this television is great for those who play video games. It automatically turns on when the console is turned on. Playing something from youtube on your laptop, PC or smartphone is easy too. You have many options through google cast to watch movies and television shows.

I got this at a discounted price and I love the TV and its features at the price point. My only gripe is that the first TV I got came with the screen smashed in and I had to get in touch with customer service to ask them to send a replacement issue. The customer service guy was helpful and promptly placed a fresh order for a new unit that arrived in time. The TV in itself is brilliant. I mean a 4kTV with chromecast built in and great sound with 49inches of real estate is perfect at the price. I am glad I went ahead for this one as it is great for my tv show binge watching as well as my xbox gaming.

I like the TV. I purchased at Black Friday sale. I usually buy online and come into store for items I can't buy online Black Friday. I was thinking about getting a Hisense 50 inch 4K HDTV with (4) HDMI/(1) Ethernet port but the bad reviews on the TV and company where not worth the trouble so I decided to go with this Toshiba a name you know. Best Buy has had several Toshiba sets for sale the past few Black Fridays. This TV was also a regularly sold Best Buy item. I took Google Chrome being built into TV for granted because I am a streaming device snob but to those new to streaming chrome is a great introduction. I have a Roku 2016 Stick, Fire Stick, and back up Google Chrome Stick hooked up via HDMI. I was happy to give my Roku 3 a much needed break. I also use the Ethernet port wired to my router for better internet connection. I had a couple of minor problems with the first (2) TV's I had to exchange them. Good thing they were in stock and were regular sold items. The 1st TV had a problem with the 2nd HDMI port. Geek squad technician came out and advised me to return TV because he suspected that the other HDMI ports were going out as well. I depend solely on my ports to stream cable content from the internet. I also did not want to deal with repairs this early after just purchasing TV. The 2nd TV set had a problem with recycling in other words the set would turn off and turn right back on by itself. This is where purchasing from Best Buy is a good decision. The Geek Squad technician was nice enough to bring a replacement set out with him and he set up the TV for me. Knock on wood I have not had any problems with this 3rd TV set. Maybe the third time is really the charm. I did purchase the 5 year warranty but hopefully I'll never need to use it. Best Buy made this purchase really easy. Logan Geek Squad Technician was great. All in All I would recommend Toshiba 49 inch 4K TV with built in Chrome. Not a bad purchase. Excellent Geek Squad service.

I've had the TV for about 5 months now and it is running great. I have virtually no issues with it (besides the chrome cast ever once in a while which is expected) and use it multiple hours a day. I use it not only for watching television but also for gaming, and it exceeded my standards. Although it doesn't have the highest refresh rate when broadcasting 4K, the picture still looks great and very vivid. Overall, very good tv. When I bought the tv, three of my friends all went out the same day to buy the same one! Very impressed for the price!

Bought this TV on labor day weekend for my brother in law. He's a mechanic and always fixes my cars for free, so this was a thank you. Super surprised how clean and clear the picture is. Speakers are loud which is another surprise. Google cast is pretty convenient, works great. Biggest factor, it's was only $399! For the quality it should at least be $1000. This is my fourth Toshia but this is my best Toshiba purchase over all. They last for ever and priced way under value. Simple setup, super crisp picture, great speakers and it was Dirt nasty cheap! Can't beat that with a stick. 49" 4k TV under $400, yes please. Will probably buy another for our other guest room, so yeah highly recommended.

I got the tv after seeing it was on sale for $350 and for a Toshiba 4k tv I thought it was a good deal. However what i didnt know was that this tv was exclusively made for Best Buy to be a black friday 2016 doorbuster sold at $200. Aside from the price, the best quality is the sound. It has the best tv speakers I've heard including a Sony and Samsung tv I have. What is bad is the backlight. The blacks are not truly blacks so anytime you see a dark screen it annoyed me. I tried to turn the backlight down but that made the screen too dark to see. I am debating returning this tv or grin and bear it. Any hd quality content looks fine with any color other than black. As for 4k, I press the info button to tell me what resolution the built in Chromecast is using and I tried 4k content i researched online for Netflix and it says 1080p (Orange is the New Black and Fuller House). But they look 4k to me so I can't judge 4k quality yet.

I hate to begin with "For the price.." because it implies in some way that a product is inferior but costs less, but this TV was a great price, and The picture and color on this TV is crystal clear. Toshiba is actually a great brand, I've had several over the years, and I think it compares favorably to our Samsung TV of similar size. Definitely worth taking a look at if you're in the market for an upgrade to 4k or just a newer TV in general. I think you'd be surprised.

Start with the bad: sound. Hollow sounding audio that is a little on the quiet side. 80% volume is close to the old 1080p Toshiba TV we replaced running at 30% volume. Speakers would be fine in a recessed stand, but on an open stand the sound drives away from you, in a large room this means it bounces a long way before getting to your ears. Not a deal breaker, but not ideal and certainyl not unique to this TV. Image quality is good. 4K resolution has benefits when viewing better content, but just stretches the blur on low res media. That's true of all 4K screens though. Brightness is perfect for our decently bright room - haven't seen screen in direct sun though - color saturation is strong. I adjusted it down a bit - straight blue, red or green images bled a little. Once the bleeding is out of the way, the overall saturation is a tad muted. Again, it's fine, and absolutely value for the dollar, but those $4000+ 4K and 8K TVs look so much better. The TV itself is good and light-weight, sits sturdy on the legs and has nice slim bezels. There are enough inputs for most basic setups, but I would have liked a couple USB ports and another composite. Have not tried the Chromecast or other smart functionality, it's just a screen at this point. In the end, I'd buy this TV again. Got it for $350 on sale, but it certainly outperforms the other $350 TVs I've compared it to.

I purchased this during the Black Friday 2016 sale for $199 and in my opinion, this is worth the price. Pros: 1) Sharp picture quality 2) Good sound 3) Easy to set up Cons: 1) TV Remote just gives you basic features to change channel / volume level. You don't get ability to select smart tv apps 2) No direct option to select smart tv apps except from a smart phone / tab

This product is fantastic for the price. My wife and I bought it on black Friday for 200.00. Its a great beginner 4k television. Lacks HDR support and the 60 hz refresh rate makes some action scenes look choppy but with the addition of built in chromecast it cant be beat for the price. I would recommend this purchase to anyone that doesnt already have a high end television.

    A Great **CHROMECAST** TV

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

It's feature rich, but if you've ever used a chromecast before, it's different. The features aren't accessed via the remote but rather by an App remote. That means if you have a smartphone or tablet, you're in good shape. The TV will screen cast both mac and windows full screen desktop just like airplay does, as long as you have google chrome installed. The picture quality of the tv is excellent, but the Google Chromecast isn't 4k like the tv is, yet still it has a great picture. The app manages netflix, but you must use your smartphone to point the tv to the netflix url (it streams to the tv, not the phone). Overall, a good purchase. I would like to see the chromecast further developed, but a nice alternative to roku tv's. The remote is nice, simple, light, and clean. I plan to buy more of these chromecast tv's for classrooms. This is a great tv, but it may not be for everyone.

We had been thinking about upgrading our tv from the 32" we had but since it was working perfectly well it was hard to justify a new purchase! That is until I saw the ad for the 49" 4K Toshiba TV for $299! That was all the motivation we needed to drive to our local Best Buy and check it out! They did not have a display model so we couldn't actually see and compare the picture quality but, knowing the 14 day return policy, we decided to pick up the last one they had and take it home! We were, not only pleasantly surprised but, amazed at the picture quality and the sound that this TV produced! We also loved the built in Chromecast feature which makes it so easy to watch Youtube videos we find on our iPhones and iPads directly on the TV!! The only complaint, if you can call it that, is that I don't really think this TV has wifi capability meaning you have to make a direct connection to the router to add the internet capability to the tv! I was unable to find any menu in the set which enables wifi, so I do believe you must have a wired connection which is only a problem if the TV is not located close by your router. So far this TV is outstanding and we're so thrilled we purchased it along with the Geek Squad 3 year warranty!

I bought this as a second TV for the bedroom and it has worked great. The picture has been really good and it was easy to set-up and get going. I read some negative reviews about the remote, but if you're using a cable box then that's not an issue at all. The only drawback is the volume sometimes can be hard to hear as the speakers face out the back.

I got this at a rock bottom doorbuster price on Black Friday. For that price, I would have bought two if I could. It is a entry level 4k model but performs indistinguishably from my Samsung 6300 model. It also has chromecast built in which is a great feature. It is not as robust as the samsung wireless technology on my other tv but still very nice. The other main differences are 1. the built in speakers are not great. I find myself having to increase the volume to the maximum to hear dialogues and then decrease when music plays at times when my gf is sleeping and i'm trying to maintain low volumes but still hear the dialogue, and 2. Not as many smart tv features. I think with a decent amplifier, this would be a great set up if you want top notch picture quality and not worried about extra frills.

I got this TV in an awesome deal this thanksgiving. To be specific, it has a good picture quality for a low price 4k TV. Decent screen brightness levels and clear sound. I watch TV a lot, and this one seems perfect for me. Screen mirroring works perfectly fine. The built-in Google ChromeCast works better than I had expected. All the apps that can "cast" can be used to throw the content to the TV (even facebook videos). The casting process and response time is same for iPhone and Android Phones. Sometimes the phone-app (youtube) looses controlling link to the TV, but, you can regain that by invoking the "Google Home" app. Note: When you turn off the TV, just the display turns off. The circuit still stays powered ON. But, since most of the power is used for the screen, it shouldnt be a problem. As an advantage, when you restart it using remote, it comes back on in fraction of a second. Also, if you are not casting any video's it starts displaying beautiful pictures (kind of a screen saver display). In some of these images the screen might look dull, but, when you stream actual video, it is perfect. Overall, Cool TV. Toshiba is a standard brand. I also got a "Geek Squad" protection pretty cheap with this TV.

Got this TV on thanksgiving day for 199, it's got a pretty good picture. I didn't like factory default setting so I changed it to my preference and so far I love it. I put this tv in the my room to enjoy the built in Chromecast to watch Netflix. You need to use your tablet or phone to control the app you are using. The only problem I had with this unit was the second night after installing it when it turned on for like 5 seconds in the middle of the night but just the sound, no picture at all just sounds from the channel I watched before turning it off. Then it did it again the following night, that's when I decided to look in it. Couldn't find anything in the settings and after the 3rd time it happened, I took it back and got a replacement. The replacement did the same exact thing on the second night. I starter looking around for things that can cause this problem and found out that the tv keeps turning on by itself if my digital box/cable is left on after turning off the tv. I tried turning off the cable box and the tv didn't do it again. I've seen a few other reviews with people complaining about the same issue hope this helps.

This is our first 4K set. Price was a greater factor in this purchase rather than the ability to view 4K. 4K was an added bonus. Even if this isn't top of the line for 4K, the price was right for the higher resolution of 4K. The numerous options for input including Chromecast are a plus. I have Cast from my i Mac, Windows 10 laptop, and my Android phone without any problem. I have used an older Apple TV in the past on another set and so far prefer Chromecast's ability to search for content with the use of a full size keyboard. Not having iTunes in Chromecast is a negative but we can view iTunes via our laptop & the hdmi input. The built-in Chromecast will eventually need to be upgraded to the newer Chromecast Ultra to take advantage of the 4K display but the 4K resolution makes 1080p look great. It would have been nice if the remote had number keys on it. It doesn't matter much to us since we use the cable company's remote but channel up & down isn't a very convenient way of channel selection. I give this set a 5 star rating as it seems to be a great value after a month or so of use.

Great quality picture, sound, and very easy to set up. Great feature with built in Chromecast and input is automatically switched when you press play on your device. Im happy with it overall. One small con is that screen size (aspect/ratio) its either too big or too small. It doesnt utilize the whole screen.
