This TV has not worked right from the day we got it. Amazon Fire constantly drops and will not stay connected to the internet. Stick with Roku! TV picture and sound are okay. Smart TV is not Smart!

The picture is fine on the tv. However, it is a known problem with the Toshiba Fire TV to go on by itself. Also, you have to very often restart it because it keeps losing the audio on it. Very annoying.

Smart TV's are terrible, this one is worse!

Smart TV's are an unnecessary marketing gimmick which make it more difficult to operate with one remote. It defaults not to cable or the last channel / mode it was in when shut off. There is a workaround for most smart TV's and this one finally added one after much consumer complaining and heavy returns I imagine but it does not function properly all of the time. If this is for a senior citizen with limited tech skills it will be a nightmare for them and you if you're who they call to fix things. The picture in so-so at best.

Every time I turn the TV on I also have to mess with the input, even if that where I turned it off very frustrating. However my remote was lost and Toshiba sent a new one free of charge.

      Hi Rob,

To change the TV to power up directly to the last input setting, press the Home button on your remote control and select the Settings menu. Then select the Display & Sounds menu and change the Power On setting to Recent row. With this new setting, the TV will power up to the last input that was watched.

The remote is Bluetooth and horrible. If you just want a tv and not all the Amazon crap stay far away from this TV. They do not tell you in the store the TV is almost useless, unless you have it hooked up to WiFi.

This TV is replacing a Vizio 48” 3D as our secondary TV. My husband unpacked it and was able to pull it out of the box by convenient cutouts on the wrapping plastic. We ordered an outdoor OTA to pickup “live TV. Since it is a smart TV, we easily connected WiFi and since we are in a very rural area, we connected to Dish satellite TV. Unfortunately, none of these connections as we have them set up will offer 4K programming so I can’t speak to that important aspect yet. Our satellite internet provider restricts us to 420p and we have ordered a 4K joey from Dish and a 4K DVD player to acess the 4K services. However, All of the setup was very easy. There was a quick start sheet included but on line no true detailed guide that I could find. That being said, the on screen setup was VERY simple. The tv easily connected to my WiFi and once I entered my password everything began downloading with minimal input from me. If you want full benefit from online content, you will need to have an Amazon account. I already had one so just entered my password. There are many things I like about this tv, but there are many things to learn. I have always used custom color display setups. This tv adjusts colors based on each type input. Our dish is connected to hdmi 1. I can chose several precalculated color setting on hdmi1 or customize them to my taste for the Dish. Same is true for the antenna. That enables us to make the colors true to life based on the input we are using. Very nice featuresince all transmissions are not the same quality. The sound from the TV speaker seems to be pretty good. We generally use external speakers from a surround system, but haven’t set that up as yet. Another feature I enjoy is watching OTA (this TV calls it “live tv”). Nowadays, we can get a channel guide showing “upcoming” programming for OTA channels. Nice. Being “old school”, some of the many features are a bit confusing. I do miss seeing channel numbers and there are no numbers on the included remote. With our internet being satellite, we have to monitor our data usage. 150gigs per month. Streaming indiscriminately is not possible, and streaming is only allowed at 420p, anything over that is buffered (slooow). One nice feature for us is a data counter. I was able to set when our data replenishes each month, set a limit on how much data we want to use on programming and receive an alert when we reach it. Then there is Alexa. The remote is fairly small with no numerical keypad. To interact with Alexa, you have to hold the microphone button and speak to her. It works very well and she is very responsive. Personally, I prefer to “do it myself” but those who grew up in the tech age will probably enjoy this. One last thing that was a fun surprise. There is a screen saver when the tv is inactive. I looked up and some of my personal photos were scrolling through a slide show. I had forgotten that I had uploaded some pics to Amazon cloud drive last year. That was really cool that Alexa knew that. OR maybe kinda creepy! Lol. This is a cool tv and I can’t wait to see 4K programming. Try it, if you have good internet this is a game changer!

Had I not already disposed of the box I would be returning this piece of crap TV. Why is it a piece of crap? ADs. ADs are displayed on the home screen and there is no way to disable them other than disconnecting the TV from the internet. It's not like this is freeware - this is owned outright. And you have to accept the ads or dumb down the smart TV. I will NEVER purchase another piece of crap Toshiba product again. Hear that, Toshiba, NEVER AGAIN.

This TV is quite pixelated, with a very grainy picture. It's OK for $300, but I wish I would have spent an extra $300 to get a good picture. Live and learn....

For background: I've watched a 40" plasma set from 2011 for many many years now and have been plenty pleased with it. Back in the day, LCD sets were not the greatest when it came to blacks and I've just felt no need to replace the plasma set for that and other reasons. So when the opportunity to check out this Toshiba came along I figured "Why not?" Let's see what the new guys can do compared to the old boys. 1st of all, the picture...the reason we watch TV. Let there be no doubt...blacks are black.Colors are pleasing, not overly saturated or unnatural looking. Mind you, my viewing is done with all settings are at factory defaults. +1 Size, weight, ability to use my existing TV stand: Ok, somewhat subjective but this was as simple as unplugging the sound bar, electric & HDMI cables, swapping out the sets, and reconnecting. I like simple! +1 Channel assortment: I'm a long-time ROKU user so was interested in checking out Fire TV. Still early on but it's ok. Plenty of channels - I'm an Amazon Prime user and the selection of available choices is much greater than for non-members [that's the "hook"]. The usual assortment of channels is available to include Internet radio. Ease of navigation could be refined as tad, though. +1 On-air TV channels: I know, who watches OTA TV anymore? Well, having an old amplified TV antenna stashed away, I was happily surprised at the tuner in the set. Even with the antenna in a poor location and not aimed with any precision, I was blown away at the channels pulled in. Well done! +1 I tinkered with Alexa and did not find it useful. Others might find it helpful, not me, it won't be missed. And I'm sure not installing a listening device in my home. Not going to happen, Jeff! +0 Lone negative experience: for whatever reason [software update?] the set worked great with my wireless network the first day/night and has not been able to connect since. Tried changing protocols, passwords, rebooting the set to factory defaults, restarting the router [Uverse]...nada, zip, zilch...it fails to connect. Every. Time. I suspect a firmware/software update that first night/early morning of the next day as prior updates had been made with no ill effects. So yeah, have to use a cable. -1 By my completely arbitrary scoring method, the set crosses the finish line at +3. My old plasma gets donated this weekend. Job well done, Toshiba and BB!

Wanted tech support to adjust color to have “pop” with the picture. Called 800 number and found Toshiba doesn’t have support but you’re talking to Best Buy geek squad and they want you to sign up for annual plan or pay $99 to come to home. No owners manual with product. Also had some other general questions but no help.

I don't think you should have to connect to the internet with this t.v. We got it home and had issues at set-up. then to come to find out you have to use the t.v. remote to turn the t.v. on and then have to push the house key then go to option to get it to come on with the cable or you have push the hmdi button. got all that going then it comes up problems with the HMDI's. I hate this t.v. wish we never got it!!

Most customers love it and enjoy an amazing picture quality, 4K resolution and compatibility with the most popular streaming apps on the market for one of the most competitive prices on the market. The sound would intermittently drop. Fist once every 30-45 min then by day 3 almost every minute or two. First thought it was FiOS. Got worse. Then started to turn itself off. Kept it for 5 days and boxed it up and returned it. Pain in the BUTT!
