Think of it as a Fire HD 50 tablet with TV tuner
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought as Prime Day special. Out-of-box setup simple for two people: lift out using handles in bag, attach feet, plug in, put batteries in remote, connect to Internet and let it download firmware update. Enter Amazon account info. My brother is accustomed to a Fire HD 10 tablet so doesn't find the concept of downloading apps for each network foreign like I do. So far an excellent birthday gift! Picture and sound are competitive with our HiSense 50H6D. Only complaint is it can't be used with a VESA swivel stand (1 star off)! He discovered how to control audio volume via remote buttons. Should you lose the remote just download the FireTV app to your phone. So far an excellent value. Recommended.

GREAT T.V. FOR THE PRICE
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great T.V. for an unbeatible price. We have 7 other T.V.'s (four 4k's and three non-4k's). For the first two days we set up our new Toshiba right below our 2 year old Samsung 4k T.V. for comparison and discovered the following: PROS: Viewing from side angles is more than acceptable. And it's definitely crisp and bright enough. Has vivid colors. No steaming problems with Fire T.V., works well with our old Xbox, set up is easy & quick. Fast response times. CONS: Although the LED of this T.V. is actually made by Samsung, the 4k quality just isn't equal to the 4k quality of our other 4k T.V.'s made by Sony, Samsung & Sharp, but for the inexpensive price it is still certainly noticeably better than our other non-4k T.V.'s. There's very little definition between different shades of White, which can be a little bit annoying at times. And as well this Toshiba has severe problems discerning the difference between various different shades of Blacks and Greys, which at times causes blending to the point that we couldn't figure out what was happening on screen for a few seconds, which for those few seconds is aggravating to say the least. SUMMARY: One gets exactly what one pays for in T.V.'s, hence in consideration thereof, for the price this is a great T.V. and we recommend it for a guest room, A.C.'d garage, climate controlled porch, or a child's bedroom, but not for your living room or den where you mainly watch T.V. most of the time, which regardless of its great value and inexpensive price is why we rated it only 4 stars out of 5 stars.

Nice TV
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Maybe I am not "techy" enough but I have not found anything special about this TV. Oh wait...the base. I LOVE this style of base- it seems much more stable then my last TV. I have internet only at my home- cable is just too expensive! I also have Netflix and I do NOT have Amazon Prime but it appears that to use this to the full potential I must have cable AND prime. All out of my price range. Set up was easy- I had my house-mate do it and he had no problems. We could not get the remote to do anything beyond turning the TV on and off, so after 3 battery changes, I called the help line. While on perm-hold we unplugged the TV and plugged it back in and it works! Oh, and what is up with the the no manual movement? The pic is great and I am sure if I can sit down and play with it for a few hours I will understand better

GREAT upgrade
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great picture Great sound, really no need for a sound bar. Went with this tv because 1 it's a fire tv, no need for a firestick. The tv is programmable. And 2 because of the stand size. The legs on this tv are more in the middle making it a perfect fit for my 44" stand, I could have gotten away with the 55" tv and now I'm regretting it. Xbox one and Nintendo Switch games look awesome on this tv.

It's great!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We researched tv's before we stepped in the door. We knew we wanted this tv, our options were limited because our stand this will sit on is only so big and most tv's have the legs way on the ends, this one does not! We are also cord cutters and use Amazon, Netflix and sling. We dropped sling once we got this tv and now use PlayStation vue, I had no idea what it was before seeing the button on the remote, but it's far better than sling. My only gripe isn't about the tv, but with the sales guy at Best Buy who tried to talk us out of this tv because he said while watching sports we would see "blur" if we didn't get a higher model... glad we didn't listen to him, we've watch at least a dozen football games and not one second of "blur" ... super clear, we love it!

Various issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I decided to go for a Fire TV because I like the Amazon 4K Firestick so much. First alarming surprise, no response from remote! Turned out one of the batteries provided was completely dead. Wew, relief. It was really annoying that the TV kept exiting the picture set up screens as I looked for the next setting in this picture calibration from www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/toshiba/amazon-fire-tv-2018/settings When you take too long between settings it exits and you have to renavigate to wherever you were. The picture settings are custom to each type of input. When setting them for streaming input the video does not continue. For over the air TV you can make settings while the TV show continues to run. This and the fact that it's a bit of a route to get to the settings makes tweaking the picture while viewing clumsy. It's more of a set it and forget it thing. The TV guide for antenna TV does not list the TV station number and is not listed in order of the TV stations. After you make a selection like ABC you will see the actual station number. So you have to adapt to a new way to select TV stations and remember networks and names rather than station numbers. With another TV set I have I control the volume of a receiver with my 4K Firestick. Turns out you can't do that with this TV unless maybe through an ARC HDMI connection? I assumed I would be able to pair the TV remote with my receiver the way I did with a Firestick but I can't so I have to turn on the receiver (which gets sound from the TV's fiber optic output) and control the volume with a seperate remote. I found information from RTINGS.com helpful partly because I could compare many aspects with other TVs I have. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/toshiba/amazon-fire-tv-2018 My star rating takes price into account.

Excellent TV with a huge flaw
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The TV is fine. Great picture, excellent sound, and no issues. Sadly, they made a massive error and it's unforgivable. Believe it or not, some people still have cable TV. We have Tivos or other DVRs and gadgets. Toshiba forgot all about us when they built this interface. So what's the flaw? No matter where you were in what input you were on, when you turn the TV off and then back on, it defaults to the setup screen of the TV. Every time you turn it in, you need to navigate to the inputs and select whatever one you used for your cable service. I use a TiVo and the remote controls power and volume. But no matter what, I need to use 2 remotes, because unless you have a 3rd party universal remote, you need their remote to navigate their menus. If the TV want already on the wall I'd have returned it. I'm opting to live with it because it's not my primary TV. I'm also hopeful they will put out a software fix or option to correct this insane design flaw. If they do it goes to 5 stars.

Great picture, sound problems with cable box
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My only problem with this TV is that I don't get any sound through my Optimum cable box. Now that's not completely true. When the HDMI input mode in the picture settings is set to mode 1: 1.4, the sound is fine. When it's set to mode 2: 2.0, nothing. The 2.0 setting works fine with my Playstation 4, soundwise. Just my Samsung cable box for Optimum cable only delivers sound through the HDMI cable on 1.4 input mode. I don't think I would get true full 4k in that mode. I can get sound if I plug a soundbar with an optical cable directly from the cable box to tv on HDMI input mode 2.0. But not if I connect the optical from the tv to the sound bar. Maybe it's Optimum's fault or maybe a future Toshiba patch will fix this. The sound settings don't effect anything, just the HDMI input mode.

Love it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I first purchased a 32" model from Amazon for my bedroom. Loved it. I had already purchased a Vizio for our Living Room. I normally really like Vizio's, but the interface on this one was horrible so I returned it and purchased this 50" Toshiba. I really, really like that the FireTV is already integrated!

Amazon Fire with Alexa Makes Smart TVs Smarter
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far, this TV has been impressive! We watch a lot of shows from streaming services as well as standard cable. Being able to use the Alexa remote to switch between services, inputs, channels, and more makes navigating between all the services convenient. Pros: -TV was packaged well and everything was intact. -Transferred my mounting hardware from old TV to the this tv, uses standard mounting positions. -Setup was easy – connecting to the internet and setting up apps are done through a first-time use setup wizard. I opted for wireless connection and it doesn’t have any problems connecting or streaming. -The 4k screen looks really nice. You can really tell the difference when gaming consoles upscale the resolution from 1080p to 4k -Volume is loud and clear, I’ve yet to test my sound bar with this TV (more on this later). -3 HDMI inputs and can use Alexa voice assistant to switch between inputs instead of button mashing to get where you want. You can also assign names to the HDMI inputs so you can say “switch to cable” or “switch to xbox” instead of whatever HDMI they’re plugged into. -Can be paired with an echo device so you don’t even need to use the remote’s voice button and can go hands free with your TV experience. Cons: -The TV currently boots up to either the home screen or recent screen. I would like it to default to the most recently used HDMI input. -This is nit-picky but I’ve never been a fan of the amazon fire remotes. When I reach across with my thumb the remote shifts in my hand and makes it hard to for me to use, although this is likely just a “me” problem. -This TV is a bit more “glary” than my previous TV. I believe this could just be where I remounted it and I’ve not got the angle correct, or maybe there’s just less dust on the new one. -Smart TV’s can be a bit daunting if you’re a first time user. It’s worth the effort to learn though. Final Thoughts: Having Amazon Fire TV built into the TV in combination with Alexa makes for a really great TV. The evolution of TV’s have been slow beyond resolution, but this is definitely the next step.

Posted .Hello TravisJ,
Thank you very much for your review comments on our new 50" Amazon Fire TV Edition TV. We take customer's feedback very much into consideration so we have recently enabled a software update that provides a new feature that allows the TV to power up directly to the last input you were watching. This software will be automatically downloaded to the TV when your TV is connected to your home network. You can also check for new software updates from the Settings menu: from that menu navigate to Device & Software -> About -> Check for System Update. If new software is available it will then update.
To change the TV to power up directly to the last input setting, press the Home button on your remote control and select the Settings menu. Then select the Display & Sounds menu and change the Power On setting to Recent row. With this new setting, the TV will power up to the last input that was watched. Keep enjoying your new TV!

Great Value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lots of ground covered in other reviews. Here are a couple of things that stand out for me. 1) Better built in sound than most TVs in this price range. 2) 4k Prime video streaming from the built in app. Most 4k smart TVs will not stream Amazon Prime video content from the on board app in 4k. If you want to stream Amazon prime video in UHD 4k you need to purchase a 4k firestick separately ($60) and attach it to a available HDMI port. This was the case with my 4K samsung tv. This set dellvers Amazon 4k content directly from its on board app. 3) Very good over the air HD channel detection.

Great TV & GREAT PRICE
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We needed a new TV for our Upstairs bedroom. This was easy to set up and the picture is great. Having Amazon Fire already part of the TV is what makes this perfect. We don't use cable anymore or Satellite TV. We use Hulu Live TV, Netflix and Amazon Prime. We have a very large house and the it is able to pick up a strong WiFi signal and stream everything without problems and this is good. We have had problems in the past with other products. I will buy another for downstairs for the family because it is such a great TV.

...It's a 50" 4k smart tv under $300. So, yeah.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This tv is terrific if you're not a super picky person that needs Superior Quality sound & picture. If you're like me and just want something that looks pretty decent, meaning a good clear picture on a nice big screen for a modest household, that sounds good enough that you're not thinking "meh, the sound's not great", and has the smart tv option - and you don't want to or can't drop a grand on a tv - you will probably love this tv as much as I do (and a lot of other people too, btw) It even has voice remote - and it's under $300. What do people expect honestly I don't understand the 1 and 2 star reviews. Those people shouldn't be bargain shopping.

Not your conventional TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to return this thing on Day 1. It is almost a hybrid monitor/tv. My old Toshiba 1080p had a better picture. I wasn’t really looking for 4k as I know it depends more on the incoming technology. But the price was right. I’m getting used to the functionality. When you power this thing on, the TV does not simply tune in. It takes you to the homepage where you can pick your input. I suspect if you are a gamer, this is an awesome set up. Sound is average, but paired up easily with my old Vizio soundbar. I use an antenna and Roku...haven’t delved too much into the fire stick yet (just with a few accounts I have already: Netflix and youtube). All inputs are easy to hook up/set up. Picked up a decent amount of stations through my Leaf antenna. While this wouldn’t have been my first choice as a conventional television, I imagine this is the new “conventional.” Good quality but not exceptional.
