Serving in Ministry, I want to promote growth within the church and community, especially among teenage viewers. This was a great asset to the church since we can now hold movie and video sessions in the Fellowship Hall.

    Great TV

This is a very good TV and well worth the money. The screen is huge compared with what I had before, and the picture quality is excellent. The sound is also very good. It's good enough where I don't see any need for a sound bar. It's very easy to setup. It took me about 30 minutes. Basically, un-box it, attached the feet with 4 screws, hook up a coaxial cable to the TV antenna, plug it in to power and then turn it on. It's big, so it's a little awkward to move alone, but not too bad. It's not too heavy. Be careful handling the screen because it is fragile. When you first turn it on, it displays a google chromecast setup screen that suggests going to a web link where it is implied a smartphone or tablet with WiFi access is needed (the link is mobile friendly but not computer friendly). I'm not a smartphone person, so I didn't have that available, so I bypassed that setup initially. Still without that, the TV is fully functional without the chromecast setup. As some people suggested in previous reviews, without the chromecase setup, when you power off the TV, it won't remember what source it was last on so it defaults to the chromecast setup screen. That can be a little annoying, but you can select the source with just a few button clicks. If this really bothers you, I found that you can remedy this by going into the menu -> options -> power management -> active standby mode and setting that to on. In the standby state, the TV will not default to the chromecast setup screen when powering on. :-) Anyway I used the TV with just over the air TV for a few days. With a passive flat indoor antenna (highly recommended for around $20 -- google it and mount high for best results) I managed to get all the major local channels in HD so the over the air tuner works great. It's easy to set up channels you don't watch to skip. I also hooked up a DVD player and a video player device (by Western Digital) with the HDMI connectors available and those worked fine. It's easy to flip between inputs with just the input button alone toggling between sources. There are 3 HDMI connectors on the TV. There is also a USB connector. You can plug in USB devices and display pictures. It's won't play video through that however (as some TV's can). Anyway, I was blown away by the TV the first few days and was very happy with the purchase. It's well worth the money and very functional. I found out what I was missing out on by not having such a nice TV with a beautiful giant screen. Curious about the chromecast, I did a bit of googling and found that you can set it up without a smart phone or tablet and do it with a laptop and WiFi connectivity. To do that, you have to go to the www.google.com/chromecast/setup link where it has links for laptop computer installs (unlike the link suggested by the TV screen). Make sure to open the link using the google chrome browser or it won't work as expected. You have to navigate a little bit of configuration/installation and WiFi setup so it can be a little difficult if you are computer challenged, but not really too bad. The end results are pretty cool. The TV becomes WiFi connected and automatically downloads pretty background pictures to display when in the chromecast mode along with displaying time. For my setup, I could navigate on my laptop in a chrome browser and go to a site like youtube and cast the video to display on the TV. I watched some HD youtube content that looked beautiful and was sold on the concept. Youtube has a lot of marvelous content. It's very cool and It makes the TV interactive. The TV also comes with a LAN connection along with RCA plug connectors. I haven't had a chance to use those yet. Worth noting is that remote is simple without a number pad. This wasn't an issue with me, but some reviewers were annoyed that they couldn't key in channel numbers. Unlike some other TVs, the controls on this TV are very minimal with just a power button and it also apparently acting as an input selector so you have to have a remote to do much. I receive over the air TV programming.

Look, in general this TV isn't bad, it's just horrible for the price point. Two years after I bought it, portions of the screen started to get dim and shadowy. Fast forward to 37 months after purchased and the screen is totally out. My last TV (Panasonic plasma) lasted for 10-years so I wasn't expecting a newer better TV to cap out like this one. I thought the TV was great and I have had it for a little over 2 years but it now will not power on. I called tech support and they informed me the repair of the TV will cost the same price of the TV and "luckily for me" it is a cheap TV so I can just buy a new one. *insert eye roll* This is my first and last TV from Best Buy considering their product and repair service is a joke.

This tv would not hold the settings. Every time tv was turned off, the next time I turned it on, I'd have a reduced viewing screen, and it would have to be set to full screen. When my tech. called Geek Squad, he was told all Toshibas are like that. Actually, I do not believe that but I exchanged this one for another brand. The picture wasn't very clear either. I had previously owned Toshibas for years and was very satisfied.

The wifi is not really wifi you have to have either a android tablet or phone to get this thing to work no joke.It has to be the worst design I've ever seen.Yes $299 seems like a great deal for a 55inch 1080p smart tv well trust me it isn't.I'm in the process of returning this and getting a samsung that is a $100.00 more and 7 inches smaller and will be happier for it.Thats how bad this tv really is

thought I was getting a smart tv with additional functions to access your games on your phone or tablet. Well NO! the only way to get the applications, Netflix, ect that are shown on the box is through your phone or tablet. Not happy with this set up. Picture is good sound is good, wish I had someone else explain Comcast.

The volume buttons on our Apple TV remote, satellite remote and the actual tv remote would make the tv fast forward when we pushed volume up and rewind when we pushed volume down. We did everything we could think of, even called for help and nobody could fix the problem. Returned it the next day. Purchased a Vizio instead and it works perfectly.

This TV is not an amazing TV. That being said it is not a horrible TV. If you're looking for something to just simply goodbye and that's affordable this TV was great. The saving grace of this TV is the fact that it is chromecast capable.
