Not happy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The TV always has to be set for picture size every time it's turned on also, have to change the input for AV to watch cable because it always wants to do Google cast. I can see why rooms 2 go gives it free as a room package. Garbage. Called for technical help and they were of no assistance.

Review: Toshiba 55L421U 55" LED TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Comparison shopped other TV's at price point (on sale and not on sale). Like the lighter weight of the new unit as compared to the older units. Needed to get two slightly longer screws to mount TV to my existing swivel/flex wall mount. No issues mounting after screw change. TV hookup was normal. Even plugged in my old Roku to one of the many HDMI ports. Took a bit of gyrating to get the WiFi portion set up. Just followed the instructions to a 'T'. Used the laptop to download and save the instructions/warranties/update files. Kind of a pita to have to do that. Once the WiFi was on, the TV went into the update mode automatically. (Wish I knew that before downloading and saving the PDF files). After the updates were done, made sure the CATV box was on, and selected the auto channel search. Man, that takes a while. After that the TV worked perfectly. Downloaded the Chromecast app for the smartphone and then had the TV synch up with it. It recognized it and asked me to 'Cast' the smart phone to the TV. OK.. Whoopdie doo.. Went over to the laptop and looked up the Google Chrome extension and loaded it up. Had to hit the router button for the network to see the laptop again (?)... Then the laptop showd as an option on the TV. Now THAT is a lot better. I can slave the laptop to the TV and do almost everything on the laptop and see it on the TV. For the money, am very happy with the (1) picture quality (2) WiFi connectability. (3) Price point (on sale!) Good bang for the buck. DEEPNHOCK

Good TV - with caveats
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Moved up from a 42" 720p plasma. This tv's picture and sound are a large improvement. I HIGHLY recommend downloading the manual so you know what some of the advanced settings do ('auto' this-and-that). The stock presets weren't really to my liking (picture/sound) so I've spent considerable time tweaking them for the various channels, cast feeds and types of shows I watch. Football required it's own dedicated Picture preset. BluRays, another. 2 others for general TV (I use broadcast, not cable or another paid service). The Digital Surround Sound is very nice. As with Picture, I tweaked Sound presets for various viewing habits. The parameters are easily adjusted. Bass response is not nearly as robust as a subwoofer. So I connected an unused stereo receiver and 3-way speakers to supplement. Now concerts and sports sound like they should. The unit has all the inputs/outputs I need. The remote that comes with the tv is not the greatest. You can't select direct channel numbers - you have to scroll to get to where you want to be. But if you download Toshiba Cast (I think that's it, for iphone and ipad) you now have a digital numeric keypad. It even has aBack/Return to last Channel button!! Nice.

Excellent and Easy to Set Up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I almost didn't buy this unit after reading reviews that stated you always have to use 2 remotes or have to change the input source EVERY time you turn on the TV. That is true only if you don't install Chromecast, (whether you plan to use it or not). I had the problem and finally installed Chromecast (I'm not very tech-savvy, but it was easy and seamless to do). Problem solved! Now, when I turn on the TV, it turns on to where it was when you turned it off--in my case, HDMI. This TV is great, nice picture and sound that is much better than the TV it replaced. Who knows, I may even end up using Chromecast for You Tube videos, etc. At this price point, I highly recommend this product.

Pretty Happy with it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I waited a month after using it, to see what I thought. Over all I am pretty happy with the TV. It did need some calibration, but with all the Blu-Rays that have a setup that is not too hard to find these days. I had never had chrome-cast, before and didn't really understand how it worked. My previous was a smart Samsung. Chrome-cast was a little different to figure out, but love the flexibility, love how the apps from my phone just play so nice, and how easy it is to cast from all devices. We mainly use it for Netflex, some Air TV and DVD's. For our expectation, it has really nailed it. I was not thinking it would be amazing clarity like the 4k systems, after all we are streaming Netflix most of the time anyway. When ever we do use a BluRay it does have a pretty good picture though. Over all I think was a great purchase. My only issue I have is a personal one. Our previous TV was 48". I was hoping to be more wowed by the jump to 55", but was not. I can't really tell. So I would have preferred 60"-65", but the price was so good on this one, I can't complain.

Nice picture and sound, somewhat complicated setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Over-all, I think the Toshiba 55L421U is a great value. The display size is huge. In fact, a little too big for my family room. I had to re-arrange furniture and still have problems such as HDMI cables that won't reach. Proper setup requires a smart phone or tablet, and downloading at least one "cast" app. After this is done, you have the ability to view videos off the web. Updating the Chromecast factory installed code prevents the problem of having to change the input setting on power-up that another reviewer complained about. Regarding the remote with no numbers for direct channel access... I was able to use the remote from my previous Toshiba Regza to access channels directly. So I leave the new remote on the shelf. I am still trying to figure out the in and outs of the smartphone apps, but I was able to download them and now my phone recognizes, and to some degree, controls the Toshiba TV.

Worst TV Ever!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly I love my Toshiba Satellite labtop (going on my 4th) so when I saw the price $$$ I thought it was a no brainer how could I go wrong? Well Theirs a reason why you don't go to McDonald's for a healthy salad!!! Some companies should stick to their power spots and not try to enlarge profit margins at their customer base expensive. I exchanged it for a VIZIO gor the same price and I'm much more happier!!

Very good, minor flaws
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a fantastic TV for the price we got it for. The picture is great and it was sime to set up. We have had a few issues since we bought it two months ago. One issue is that it will randomly change inputs without any warning. Another issue is sometimes the sound gets off sync from the picture. These issues only happen on the rare occasion, but it shouldn't be happening at all. The Chromecast is useful for someone who doesn't have a device for certain apps, and it works pretty well. I recommend this for anyone who is looking for a decent living room TV at a good price.

Awesome tv for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolutely love this tv. Its no frills but thats what I wanted. I didnt want 4k yet. Chromecast is awesome and doesnt bog the tv down with a bunch of apps and who doesnt have a smart phone in hand constantly. I think the pic is very underrated on this tv. I had a samsung before and this is just as good if not better. Dont hesitate to buy.

Great TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This tv TICKED ME OFF till I downloaded the manual. I highly recommend downloading the manual before you try to hook up a Roku to this it will save you a big head ach. It was a bugar to get the lip sync figured out on this with the Roku, but after reading the manual and following the instructions for the HDMI hook up I then turned the power off to the tv and the Roku and waited 10 seconds and turned them both back on and wallaaaaa the lipsync was fixed. Great tv. Sound could be a little better but for the price I aint complaining. I read the reviews where a lot of people took this set back because of the roku problem, that's why I am letting you all know how to go about this before you take a set back that is realy a good set. Great picture Love it so far

Great TV for the Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first big TV purchase and I am happy thus far. Picture and Sound Quality is very nice! The built-in chromecast feature works as advertised. Could use more installed apps for a Smart TV. The input lag is the downside to this TV. i can not game on it.

Not So "Smart TV"
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this tv after my 50" Sharp Roku LED had a backlight failure weeks after the one year warranty expired. I noticed this 55" Toshiba had Google Cast built in so I thought it would be similar the the Roku TV. Unfortunately that wasn't the case as this tv relies on your smart phone to be "smart" like the Chrome Cast stick. Basically, you don't get to see or utilize apps on the TV, but rather your phone. This gives the feel of a non-smart TV along with the tiny side menus to switch between inputs/HDMI and settings. The picture is great and the sound is good after I customized it in settings. No bloatware as with a regular smart TV. I don't recommend this set to older people who are not google savvy or smart phone knowledgeable. I do recommend this TV for the quality and price as well as the ease of use to stream movies from a phone.

Reputable brand at low price = Must buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think TVs nowadays are all alike. Why pay more for the features you don't use or can't feel the differences? The picture is good and the sound is good. That's all I need. Unlike traditional smart TVs, Chromecast needs a smart phone/device to browse videos and send them to TV. Chromecast is nothing without a smartphone. After trying Chromecast for a few days, I ended up putting a Roku into it because my mom doesn't have smartphone and she doesn't want to. There's no numeric pad on remote. Which means you have to use prev/next buttons to select desired channel among 100 channels if you are viewing OTA channels. Toshiba's solution for this is providing smartphone app that includes numeric pad. Again, if you don't have a smartphone, it will be inconvenient.

Toshiba 55" (DUMB) Smart TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so good ! good TV for the money. Great picture & fairly good sound (at least it isn't distorted) for the less than $500 range of TV's The only drawback that I can see is this TV is not too smart for a smart TV EVERY time the TV is turned on, it immediately goes to google cast. Evidently google paid Toshiba to stick its programming in the start menu. I have not found a way to get this TV to start up on the HDMI connection that my satellite TV is on. . I must reconfigure the input to the HDMI EVERY time I turn on the TV. VERY inconvenient, esp for older folks that do not stream media. Who would have thought that an inexpensive TV woukld be so good except for this built -in inconvenience. BTW, there is nothing in the specifications that I saw that says it defaults to something not everyone may understand or desire.!!! RANT OVER Great TV that I would recommend to all except those that are not google-savvy.

Pro & Con
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pro: Fast set up (be sure to first complete Chromecast install). Picture quality is outstanding. It is best paired up with wireless internet. Built in Chromecast works fine, however with 3 HDMI ports, Firestick streaming video is easier to use than Chromecast. ROKU is poor choice due to consistantly out of sync video/audio. ROKU does not clear with reset and tech support not available. Out of sync problem is unique to ROKU and does not occur with either Chromecast or Firestick. Con: Provided remote with no numbers easily qualifies as worst I have ever seen. Those using digital over-the-air HDTV will soon be looking to purchase after market generic remote. May not be big factor for those with cable setup boxes.
