I utilize this drive for all my backup needs. I keep it plugged in all the time and let my Windows do all the file backup and systems backup 24/7. I have never had an issue and it is very fast when doing the data transfer. Never gets hot. Best deal around if you need a backup or just want to store a bunch of files. I now have 4 of these for each of my systems. We work in a dusty area and the computers and such get a lot of dust on them and still no issues.

    great little portable drive

I have several Toshiba portable drives, as well as other mfr drives that I use for backups for numerous computers. They all work very well and are very portable. This latest Toshiba is a 2TB, which is nice because with the 1TB and less my backups were filling them up too fast. I do have to mention one thing though: The 750GB and 1TB Toshibas I have are the exact same size, and I expected this one to be also. However, although the width and depth are the same, the 2TB is considerably taller than the 1TB. It is almost as if they took two of the 1TB and stacked them on top of each other in a single case. Who knows, maybe they did. This is not a problem for me and the drive is still very portable, but if you want to shove it in your pocket, be aware that the form factor is a little bigger and heavier than the ones that are 1TB and less. I have not tried the cloud software that is supposed to be available for this drive so I cannot say whether that feature works well or not. It comes with software but is not documented well. I do not know if the software turns this drive into cloud storage or not. Very confusing. It also comes with backup software, but I didn't check it out because I am very happy with Macrium Reflect free and have been unhappy with numerous other backup software I have tried. Another thing confusing from Toshiba: Why have a Canvio Basics, Canvio Connect, and Canvio Connect II? And if you have them all, please tell us what the differences are. I had trouble finding out the differences, if there are any, even after chatting with their support. Note: Warranty is 2 yrs. I only mention this because I had trouble finding this info before buying, and depending on which Toshiba you get, the warranties are different. Overall, I am very happy, very nice product.

This is a great drive! I have two and use them as backups for my photos. Two - as a "just in case" as any hard-disk-drive will eventually fail. That being said, this one is small, reliable, easy to carry and store and quick with the USB 3 connection. I have no qualms with purchasing this over a different brand as there are only a couple of drive manufacturers and the price difference in branding is worth it to me to go with this Toshiba gem. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an external drive.

Great compact size for someone like me who is always traveling. At 2TB, it holds all the software I need for my business, and all the software for play to keep me entertained during my travel and down time. Great price too. I can't speak for the durability of the product. I haven't dropped it yet, and don't intend to.

Gave me the space I needed on Xbox one!

I am the type of gamer who likes to play a wide variety of games, as everyone knows the next gen consoles are requiring a ton of space even with the disc. I filled up the stock hard drive on Xbox one (500gb) in about a month and became a bit disapointed on how large files were. I then began looking into getting an external hard drive, I found this gem at a reasonable price after comparing at many stores. This hard drive works great. It gives me more than enough space (for now....), it's responsive, quiet, and extremely user friendly. I heard that some drives were loud and slow, so it made me rather skeptical about which hard drive I should purchase. I'll tell ya, I made the right choice!! If you need extra hard drive space for any of your digital needs, think about getting this hard drive!

Needed a lightweight, 2+ TB drive that could handle a lot of traveling. It has held up great to being stuffed in luggage bags. The drive loads fast with any computer I plug it into. I haven't had any issues with cross platform (mac/Windows/redhat) so far - which is wonderful!

I purchased this after a small scare from the blue screen of death on my laptop. I was worried I had lost everything and had no back up. After fixing the underlying issue, I decided to get a back up HUB incase something like that would happen again. The thought process into getting this guy was expense, brand, size, and functions. I like this cause its small, cheap, plenty of space for 2 computers and comes with pretty good software to help back up your computer. This is a pretty simple product. I do not have it hooked up all the time so i probably dont get the most out of it but for me I dont need it. I just bought it for the reliability and incase of emergency. I would recommand it to anyone that was in my situation and is not looking to have a whole network connected to it (get something a bit more powerful).

I needed a quick drive to expand storage for my projects with web design and other downloads. I returned the cloud base storage because it was overkill. This drive is a plus due to being USB 3.0 and the cheapest price vs its competitors like Western Digital or Seagate. This is my very first Toshiba drive as I have always used other brands but I like it so far.

I have several of these drives, of various ages, configured as different virtual machines and/or backup drives. They're light and small so I can travel with one or two easily, they're reliable, relatively speedy, and they're a good cost per megabyte. They've never given me any troubles and even the PogoPlug remote access software they come with is pretty good. They also run from the USB port, so no power cable to mess with. It's hard not to like this drive.

The Toshiba - Canvio Connect II 2TB Drive works great. It's essentially plug and play although it has to be reformatted for a Mac and even that is easy. I use it as a back up drive plugged up to the USB on my Netgear Nighthawk. My Macbook uses Time Machine and backs up over my network. I have had a couple instances where I had to unplug it form the Netgear and plug it back up to get it to work over the network. Time will tell on longevity.

My 9 yr old backup disc recently failed. I took it to Best Buy and was informed by a member of the geek squad that the device id not longer was being sent to my cpu...I needed anew device. He helped me select a much better device that had much larger disc space and was reasonally priced, but the best part of this device is that is only the size of pack of cigarettes, while the old device was the size of a large book. thank you

I have purchased two of these and find them reliable and easy to set up. I choose not to back up my system as it takes up too much disc space. That's why I bought the second one. It's small and quiet and the software that comes with it is good. I've got it set up to back up every day at a specific time and it does just that. When my computer crashed I was so happy I had this with all my info safe.

I bought this for the singular purpose of holding media for my tv, that was from my computer. I haven't had any issues at all with it after about 2 months now. I did an initial 700-something gigabyte transfer when I first got it, the drive handled it great!

I use mine as extra storage for my Xbox One. It does a great job at holding all my games so far and it even loads up some of the games faster than the Xbox internal memory. It has amazing transfer speeds as well which is great so I can use it on a second Xbox. So far no problems and if one happens I'll update this.

The nicest thing about this drive is that it does not require its own power source but uses the power supplied by the USB port. This makes it ideal for working on-the-go. The USB3 interface makes it virtually as fast as an internal drive.

These USB external drives are perfect for rotating backup media. They are also great for setting up a PogoPlug PC personal cloud drive without cluttering up my main hard drive with all the PogoPlug index files ( I don't keep personal info on that drive - just pictures and stuff I need on the road).
