This microphone is an excellent tool. Out of the box I had it put together and connected to my Mac in less than 5 minutes. It has four different capabilities for different recording needs. Does an excellent job picking up sound even in somewhat noisy environments it is still clean. I used it to record a podcast and it did beautifully. Nice addition to my system. The box says it also works for gaming systems but I do not do that so cannot comment on how it works with the PS4 or XBOX.

    Turtle Beach Stream Mic

So I've been testing out this stream mic by Turtle Beach for the last few days and its decent at best once you go to the audio hub and update the firmware. I must say that it is a little heavier than I expected which is a good thing. Seems to have a nice quality build to it. Putting it together was all of 2 minutes if that. I comes with an attachment piece that'll connect to a boom arm. Sound quality was average for a beginner. It also comes with a USB cord which attaches to your laptop (PC or Mac) or your game system (PS4 or Xbox). I've used it over the last few days mainly with my PC. Again this stream mic is great for a beginner. On the back of the mic you can change the mic modes and switch between cardioid (general streaming), bi-directional (for interviewing others), hypercardioid (for when you're in noisy rooms), and omnidirectional (for group recordings or quiet rooms). You can also connect a headset to the back of mic also.

Easy to Use and Great Sound

My son is using this since he is a gamer and does some streaming on Twitch. He has used a few microphones in the past and finds this one to be as good and better than most of the other microphones he has used. The setup was easy with Windows 10 and the microphone does a great job picking up his voice and limiting any background sound. The build of the device is very good. Would recommend.

Perhaps a bad unit; simply so-so for a mic

I was provided a free unit in exchange for an unbiased review. Honestly, I was really looking forward to being blown away by what appeared to be a talk show-looking microphone that happened to have a number of decent sound fields depending on the location being recorded. However -- and I do stress that this could simply be the unit I received -- things were a significant let-down. After setting up the mic and loading the latest firmware via a gaming PC I happened to have, I hooked up a pre-Lightning-terminated set of Apple headphones to the mic (there's a 3.5mm jack that's supposed to let you hear exactly what your audience would hear), so we're not talking about using a bad set of headphones as a test. I also downloaded and used Open Broadcaster Software studio to perform some live-streaming, so again, we're not talking bad stuff off the shelf. The first thing was that the headphones reproduced sound in one channel -- mono -- on the left channel. I made sure that the plug was as far in as it goes, as sometimes that can cause a problem in any listening situation. To make sure the headphones weren't the issue, I plugged them into my PC and heard a number of test sounds in stereo. Next, because of the headphone issue, I could not tell if any of the sound fields (uni-directional, omni-directional, group/one-on-one interview, etc.) actually worked, as there was no reliable way for me to establish a baseline of sound that the mic would reproduce. And given the basic setup of the included instruction manual, it does not appear as if there's a terribly complicated multi-step process to get the mic set up; plug it into an available USB port, let the PC/Mac recognize and set it up, and then switch to the sound field (based on a front-facing LED) that you want, and go. As I mentioned, hopefully this was just a bad unit that I had to review, as it really has some promising features to it.

This mic is awesome. I love playing online and not having a headset on. Very easy setup and the construction is solid. I love the adaptive software to handle noise canceling. I have a blog online so this is a must. Definitely, go out and grab you one

    Well designed, durable mic

This is a very sturdy mic for the purposes of streaming. It's not real ideal for everyday gaming as a boom on headphones is typically better at picking up voices. Friends were saying that the quality of the sound coming from the mic was similar to that of the kinect. My guess is that was because of the proximity of the mic to me. If you're sitting at a table where it's closer to mouth level it probably sounds a lot better. The mic itself seems well designed and is very sturdy. It's a compact device with a lot of heft to it. You won't have to worry about knocking it over accidentally. The best part is that it's compatible with just about any platform. So that one purchase will be good on both PC or Xbox/PS. In all, I would recommend this if you're into streaming and doing podcasts.

This mic worked very well for voice streaming, but not so much for videos. PC gaming was great as well. It's plastic mostly and had a bit of a cheap feel but it does the job.

I love the design. Looks real good. The 4 different sound modes are cool. I've only used this for streaming on games. No conference calls yet. I didn't like that you can't talk on the phone with it. Maybe i'm doing something wrong.

Bad buy -- Unable to download drivers; No support

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is one of the worst purchases I have ever made. I should have returned it immediately when I bought it a couple months or so ago. (There were reasons I could not.) There was zero support from Turtle Beach then, and zero support now. You can't even send a message to them via CONTACT page because, after you fill it in and do the CAPTCHA, the message won't send! No one on Facebook will answer you, This is a waste of money. It sounds lousy with the software I have. And for months, I have been unable to download their windows drivers (Turtle Beach wants you to own an XBox). I hauled the thing back out today to see if I could record. And it was .... awful again. Here is the message I composed, but could not send to Turtle Beach for a glitch in the website (glitches must be their forte): "I have a Dell laptop. No Windows drivers will install. I have tried it multiple times. They wouldn't install two months ago when I bought this mic (and received no support). I have tried it in every permutation -- as an Xbox (which I don't have and never will have),downloading the drivers straight from your site, downloading them from Dell.... Nothing. "This is one of the worst purchases I have ever made. I am a disabled veteran and if I hadn't had health problems, I would have (and should have brought it back to the store the day after I bought it). "I don't expect to get a response from you this time either, but I will give you a chance." I just attempted to send this message to Turtle Bay, after answering yet another CAPTCHA: No go! My advice: Avoid these products like you would a computer virus. I'm out money I couldn't afford and you're better off using to buy another company's product.

I had this mic, it was good at first until someone told me how the quality was. Every time I join a Xbox party, people say “Are you taking on a Kinect.” Another problem is when I play games, the volume cuts out. Another thing is when using it. You will sound like a robot out of nowhere, save up your money for something higher quality.

This is by far the worst sounding microphone I have ever heard. I updated all the drivers, and downloaded the turtle beach software to see if that would help. It didn't. It sounds like you are talking through a long hallway. My friends on skype didn't want to play with me because of how bad the quality was. My Astro A40 mic is double the quality this was. Such a huge let down!

This is a horrible mic. If you want to get a good mic get the Blue Snowball and save some money. This mic sounds like a $10 mic. Don't buy it.
