As a teenager, I was always fascinated w/how one could change the entire mood & atmosphere of a room, either subtly or dramatically, just by deploying different types of direct & indirect lighting. In my youth, I used to visit a store called Spencer Gifts in the local mall. In the back of the store was a dark room area that was largely devoted to the latest array of black lights, fiber optic “tree” lamps, lava lamps, “mood” lights, sound-activated party globes, strobe lights, & neon lights, etc. Over time, I gradually acquired several of those lighting devices to help create complementary light shows for the rock music that I played in my bedroom. One of my fondest memories is of the special glow-in-the-dark, sound-activated, strobe-intensive light shows I created to pair & sync w/some of my favorite tracks from bands like Boston & Journey, as I played along on my Ludwig drum kit. After I’d arranged all my various light sources for the desired effects & queued up just the right songs to play, it was great fun to rock out w/my siblings while we all enjoyed the music & lights. Fast forward to 2021. Although the app-controlled animations possible w/these LEDs are “light” years beyond the primitive & disjointed components of my teenage lightshows, at least in terms of technological advance, integration, & sophistication--I still get the feeling that the designers at Twinkly possess that same childlike fascination & passion for the wonder that can be created by the visual effects of creative complementary lighting. It’s a beautiful thing to witness, experience, & share in the creative imagination of kindred spirits. On weekends, my wife & I try to schedule at least one night to enjoy our modest home theatre which includes a long, low-profile, horizontal TV stand w/a large screen 8k TV. With this new 5ft strip of LED lights emanating from behind the TV stand, there’s a new enhanced ambience to our home entertainment area that was previously so minimalist that it was somewhat sterile. Now, this space has been converted into a vibe that looks both a bit more hi-tech, w/the brilliant yet soft glow of indirect LED lighting, yet also feels warmer & more inviting as we move into the fall & dial in the right colors & dial down the intensity/brightness. In fact, we’ve already decided to buy another 5ft extension strip to finish out the indirect lighting across the full length of the back of the cabinet. As for operating the lights, you can control these LEDs either by the attached in-line controller or by downloading the Twinkly phone app. Wi-Fi & Bluetooth connectivity are at your fingertips. Impressively, these LEDs are individually addressable, meaning that each LED has a tiny microcontroller/driver that enables it to illuminate w/a unique color & brightness/intensity that you can program according to your distinct lighting décor preferences. Will I take the time to do that? No. I haven’t even explored a lot of the basic patterns & color combos available w/in the app that I want to try yet. But if you want to drill down to the individual LED level, the capability is there. From a convenience standpoint, you can, of course, use the app to set up the lights on a timer to turn on & off. It’s also nice to know that you can control the lights w/voice commands thru Google Assistant/Hey Google & Alexa. And for gamers, if you want to fully customize your gaming room or just tweak your gaming station, these LEDs work w/Razer Chroma RGB, giving you access to almost 17 million colors & the kind of unique lighting effects that promote a full-immersion experience. Mounting: the back of the strip has an adhesive that allows you to place & press the LED strip where you want it affixed. And there are cord clips & adhesive mounting pads included in the kit for mounting the cord. Bottom Line: This is pricey but “fun” technology WHEN it works right. But the app can be quite finicky at times, especially during setup. Hopefully, Twinkly will work to improve the app & software functionality w/firmware updates & upgrades over time. The overall concept is certainly an exciting one because of the amount of control it gives the user to ACT on his IMAGINATION & CREATE his own unique light displays. I hope Twinkly will maintain a strong R&D commitment to more fully empower home lighting enthusiasts w/the ability to realize their own ideas for in-home accenting & decorative lighting. And after they get the indoor lighting dialed in, I hope they extend their expertise by developing even beefier & more robust systems that are fully outdoor-ready for long-lasting seasonal lighting displays in all kinds of climate/weather. Exterior lighting displays have, for far too long, been bookended by cheap Christmas lights w/limited functionality from places like the major home improvement warehouses on the one hand & prohibitively expensive commercial lighting equipment erected by professional lighting engineers on the other hand. It would be nice to see Twinkly bring power to the people by enabling DIY home lighting enthusiasts the ability to convert their creative visions for seasonal exterior lighting displays into reality. What if Twinkly could do for creative interior & exterior home lighting accents & decorations what Apple & Microsoft did for home computing? There’s pent up demand for homeowners & renters across the spectrum to be able to more fully express themselves w/lighting. Done right, this is a market that clearly hasn’t been tapped & has tremendous growth potential.

There are poo, they dont interact with whats on the screen and arent user friendly.

The positives are, the lights are nice and bright and you can control the brightness with the app. App is easy to use and set up was quick and easy. There are seemingly countless ways to set up the lights with colors and patterns. The reasons these are not great include, bulky Bluetooth hub, very delicate pins when you connect the lights to the AC adapter. Customer service while nice, they wanted me to video the problems I had with the first set they sent me. The lights were not all lighting up and then just quit. Not sure how you can send video of lights not lighting up? Again the lights look nice, but the design with connection etc. Could be definitely improved.

I love everything Twinkly, and these do not disappoint. Using under kitchen cabinets.

We have several sets of strip light around our house. This is my first Twinkly set. I'm definitely impressed. These aren't like you normal flat strip lights. The LED circuits and lights are embedded in a clear flexible coating. Obviously, these are new, but this manufacturing method certainly seems like it will really hold up over time. The brightness is great...and dimmable. I had to turn them down a bit. I was really happy with the color accuracy. It was pretty easy to achieve whatever color hue I was after. The app wasn't quite as simple as I would have liked, but I figured it out. I guess it's understandable to some extent since these are so configurable. You can't get that much customization without some complexity in the software. The presets are actually great. You don't have to customize anything if you are good with the built in options. You can also download other options through the app. If you are that crazy person who loves to build custom light shows, this will scratch your itch. You can customize these lights down to the individual LED level. You really can create just about any effect you can think of if you take the time (a lot of time) to set it up. I kind of feel like these lights are better suited for decorating rather that just slapping behind a TV or under a computer desk. They do so much more than just create static ambient lighting, but it's obviously up to you to determine your use case. In my opinion, these are too nice, too configurable, and too expensive to just slap behind a piece of furniture and leave alone. There are cheaper options if that's all you are after. I do agree with other reviews on a couple of fronts. Because of the robust manufacturing, they aren't as flexible as a flat strip light. The only bend in the direction that the strip is going. It's pretty tough to turn a 90 degree corner unless you have lots of room to round it off. The other issue is the adhesive. It's really pretty terrible. I hope they improve that in their next generation. It just doesn't stick well even if you diligently prep the surface. That was probably the most disappointing aspect. At this price point, I shouldn't have to worry about them sticking. In hind sight, I probably shouldn't have stuck them on anything in the first place. I should have kept them mobile so I could use them in different applications throughout the year (different holidays, outdoor parties, etc.)

Doesn't get extremely hot. Very easy to connect with the app and use with voice activation with either Google or Alexa. I love the ability to change the colors in every effect as well as blend 2 effects together. The remote being connected along the cord is a good thing since I've had other misplaced. It isn't easy to bend in certain designs which was fine with me.

So this is my second set of Twinkly products, and they continue to surprise. This set was obtained to go right into my teenagers bedroom. and it fits the bill perfectly. First, it is supper simple to setup. Download app, plug in, pair, and go. just like that. It doesn't require a ton of complicated steps. Now the fun part, getting to play with the colors. in just a few moments was able to start to use the pre-designed layouts, but that soon got "boring" and then got into specifically seeing things up to colors where they wanted to be. installation is probably the only thing that lacks a bit. While you can have some distance between the lights and the control box, that control box is still pretty bulky. So depending on your installation you are going to need to be clever. For us, we were able to stash it inside a cabinet after drilling a hole for the wire to run. The other smaller negative, is 5ft is a LOT shorter then it sounds, when it comes to lights. Overall... this is a great, higher quality then most of the garbage from Amazon, and will fit most use cases, but the shorter length and higher dollar, needs to be evaluated based on usage and wants.

So i start out by saying this light strip does a lot of things I’ve never seen any others do. The app allows for endless configuration right down to the individual LED level. You use the camera on your phone to “see” the LEDs and it allows you to map out your own scenes and such. That all sounds great until you realize that 5 feet doesn’t go very far and if you’re using them on a long bar or other accent, you’re going to spend a lot of money to get any usefulness out of them. If money is no object, there’s no better set out there for customization. I’d just like to see them at a more attainable price point for the size you get.

I had high hopes for this product based on what it says it can do. However, upon receiving it, I was not really that impressed. Setup was fine, the scanning of the lights through their app didn't work for me, that's fine. Once I had them all set up how I wanted them behind my bed, I added them to Alexa, however, this did not work at all. I added and removed the device multiple times and it would not take Alexa commands. Looking at reviews of the Twinkly skill, developers say this is a known bug and should be fixed in "months". Seriously? You area going to charge $100 for a 5 foot LED light strip and not fix one of the core competencies of it? The instruction manual is very hard to read and poorly laid out. The app for the device is very confusing and has just a very late 90s aesthetic to it. It is not very intuitive at all. You can customize the lights all you want, but it is not very easy to do so in my experience and a cumbersome process that is not worth it. Also, considering you only get 5.5 feet of LED for the price is ridiculous. The only saving grace about these lights is how nice they look. They truly are unique in that sense with all the different effects and what not, but it's not enough to justify the price point and all the issues with the product.

If you've been thinking, you know what would make my TV or any other area where you have things displayed really pop? Then these LEDs are the answer. Very simple to set up with a very intuitive app interface, I have tried these in a few different places around my house before settling on rear lighting for a display I have with some Legos and game/movie related statues. You can set these up in a way that you only see the light and not the source of the light, which gives a very nice effect to my display. Plus, being able to change the lighting style and pattern depending on the mood or event is a ton of fun and just makes everything stand out so well. Having a statue of Thor with lightning is cool and all, but when you backlight it with some blue lights it becomes so much more impressive. Will likely be ordering more of these to use as accents in other areas of my home.

The Twinkly Line, 5 Ft LED light starter kit, is a nice and versatile lighting kit. the LED's are bright, colors are vivid and It contains a ton of features that aren't available on other cheaper LED light strips. For instance, I was able to use the Twinkly app to customize the light strip down to the individual led. It takes a lot of patience but it can be done. There are also 20 different effects to chose from that are also customizable. Another cool feature is that you can set a timer that turns it on and off. The only thing I didn't like about the light strip was the set up process. It probably took me 10 tries to get the lights to work properly.

very cool light strip to have. the app lets you customize each light if you want, or you can do different themes. overall happy to have this product and compared to other similar things out there, i love that if i wanted i can go thru and change each light. most have sections that you can do but not each individual led. i placed mine around my computer desk. my theme over all is orange and pink. my favorite color being orange and my wifes being pink. i love that i was able to set this up to go with my theme of all my other devices.

I love light strips and have them all over my house for indirect, mood and accent lighting. These are the standard LED light strips on steroids. The light strip itself is very unique. The entire length is encapsulated in a rubbery material so you can't actually feel each individual LED. This seems like a really good idea to me because it will protect the LED circuit. As long as the finish stays crystal clear (as it is now), it's a bonus. If it discolors over time, not so much. Time will tell. As you might expect with a line strip like this, you're a bit limited with where you can put them because they don't bend laterally, You can only bend them in the direction the line is going, so putting them behind your TV is going to be a very tricky process. And with these, you can't cut them to the length you need. You can however easily extend them with an additional LED strip light kit. They just plug right in to the end of this one. But the strength of these LED strips does not lie in mere indirect TV illumination. These LEDs are quite different. They're better suited to “decorations” than strategic background lighting. If you like to decorate for Christmas or Halloween, these would be perfect. I say that because just using them for indirect lighting would be a waste. These guys come with quite a few built in, pre-programmed light shows (thanks to the companion app). You can choose different light patterns and adjust the colors to your liking. Since each individual LED is independently controllable, you can go as crazy as you want with programming. Fades, selecting different LEDS to be on at a time, etc.. The lights are nice and bright and you have the ability to dim them down to black if you want. You can also download additional pre-programmed effects through the app. Another benefit of the WiFi connection is that if you have these LEDs all over your house, you can sync all of them together. They can be controller solely through the app if you want. The app has a timer feature that let's you set when they come on and turn off. A manual power button is included in the app and a brightness slider that controls the overall brightness of the LEDs. If you want, and you use smarthome devices like Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple Homekit, you can use your voice to control the lights too. I don't use any of these devices so I can't comment on how well they work, but if you successfully connected them to your home WiFi, it should not be a problem to control them with any of those devices. I like the wide range of programming options you have with these LEDs and if you don't actually stick them on anything, you can probably find different uses for them all over the house. Personally I think they are best suited for decoration applications since they have a really nice processor with nice user programming options, but you can easily stick them on the back of your TV and create subtle light waves and color changes too. For more fun, you can purchase the optional music dongle that will synchronize the lights with whatever music you're playing. All in all, these are fun lights to watch. They are very well made, bright, offer millions of colors and are easy to control with the included app. My biggest sticking point is the price. They are by no stretch of the imagination, cheap. To use them to light up Christmas decorations or even trees will cost you a not so small fortune. If you just want some small accent lights that you can have total control over, these are perfect. You have to weigh the cost against what you want to use them for.

I received this product in exchange for my fair and unbiased review. You might think that Twinkly is just fancy holiday lighting, but it turns out they do more than that. For example, the Twinkly Line strip light is an addressable RGB strip light that you can program different effects into, from a red light that chases itself back and forth to pairing several together to create a light show of your choosing. Like every other Twinkly product, the Line strip light is super easy to setup - install the app on your smart phone, put the light controller into pairing mode, and you're done. Inside the app, you can choose from several effects - or create your own. You can also pair Twinkly devices to Google Assistant and Alexa, meaning you wouldn't need to open the app or unplug the devices when you want to turn them on or off. Do I recommend Twinkly products? Yes.

Out of the box the quick start guide was easy to understand and implement. Within minutes, I had the app downloaded with lights twinkling away! The individually addressed LEDs allow for some very nice light patterns of which there are many pre programmed sequences. In addition, the app easily lets you program custom patterns to suite your needs. The colors are bright and true and provide nice ambiance in the room I put them. You can add on extensions to increase the length of the string to suite your needs.

The Twinkly Smart Light Strip of 100 LED lights is fun to play with! Neat little package of light strip (5 ft), power block and plug. Downloadable app for Android was easy to use and FUN being able to control so many different settings for the light strip. I found the light strip setup to be quite easy, and getting the light strip connected via bluetooth to the Android app was also quite effortless. The pieces communicated well together and I didn't experience any disconnects. DOWNSIDE? The package contains only a 5 foot long light strip. What can you possibly do with just 5 feet? For this product to be useful, it needs to be at least 15-20 feet long. Yes, I can purchase more "strips", but at $45 per each additional 5 feet, it can get expensive real fast! The 5 foot "starter kit" that I got is nice, but $100 is a bit much for what you really get; after all, LED lighting is CHEAP nowadays, but not this product. My daughter just got the 7 1/2 foot Twinkly Xmas Tree and she loves it. Maybe she can use my strand of 5 feet on her tree. While this product is fun, being 68 years old, I don't go in for games and play toys much anymore. Mechanically, while I haven't experienced any problems with Twinkly, I think that "with continued use" the connector to the power strip OR to additional light strips might break. Its very flimsy and some caution needs to be used when connecting the strip. POSITIVES? Amazing colors. Amazing layouts/patterns of lights can be made, but again, with MORE strips it would be much more impressive. I would love to put Twinkly around my 80" curved screen Samsung, but need more lights! Can't do too much with 5 feet. I think the ambient light around the TV would be amazing. Twinkly is a nice product, but overpriced for what you really got. To make this "starter kit" really usable, you need to purchase 2-3 OR MORE add-on light strip kits.

I ordered this with several applications in mind. I would either set it up as under cabinet lights in my kitchen or create an effect around my TV. I didnt like it for under cabinet use due to the large charging brick that had to be plugged in, but it works well for my TV. Setup was pretty painful with the app. I tried no less than 10 times before i was able to get it to connect to my Wifi. That was pretty frustrating. The app itself is pretty busy. You can download lots of effects and you have the ability to create playlists. Im not exactly sure what playlists do because when i tried to edit and create a playlist, nothing ever happened. I've had to setup my Wifi several times for some reason. It can work fine one day and then the next time I go to it, i have to set it up again. I also use multiple devices to control my smart home setup and I have not been able to use the app on any other device other than the one I initially set it up with. So far my experience has been frustrating with this app and device, but i did see an update pop up when i logged in today, so maybe after the update some of my issues will be resolved. I can only give this device two stars due to the issues i mentioned above. I can only hope the update will fix the issues. Based on my experience so far, i would not recommend this device.

I got this for lights to go under my bar in my basement. I thought they had a setting for just plain lights, but the color changing flashing lights are perfect!! I used them at a get together and everyone just loved it!! It added pizazz and was extremely easy to set up and use. It is a must have for party rooms!!!

I really think these are beautiful! I love that you can set different playlists in the app. The only issues I have is the Price for such a short amount. also, I cannot figure out how to turn them off without the App. Other than that they are great!
