Wish these came in a longer length. A larger set would be a lot easier to set up and manage for easier customization.

Daughter loves the festoon lights for her room. Apparently, It brings out the magic of the unicorns. Green wiring stands out against the white walls, but it still looks nice! App works well so she can choose the mood of the room.

I received this product in exchange for my fair and unbiased review. TL;DR - the Twinkly Festoon Lights are the ultimate café-style light for indoor or outdoor use. you can set them to use what feels like a nearly infinite number of colors, you can program them to display different patterns either independently or to the sound of your music (using the mic in your smartphone or tablet), and you can control them using your smart speaker (Google and Alexa are supported) and even Razer Chroma. If you're looking for a fun way to decorate an outdoor seating area or you're looking to add some fun to a room, I can highly recommend these. Unboxing and setup: If you've ever bought a set of LED café-style lights, they're packaged pretty much identically - so if you're impatient like my kid is, you're going to tangle the wires. The "bulbs" are permanently attached, so there's no replacing them unfortunately, but this shouldn't be an issue as LEDs have a long lifespan. The only difference compared to some sets is you have an inline LED controller; sets that use single-color or non-controllable RGB LEDs generally don't have the inline controller. Connecting Twinkly to your home network is cakewalk. You'll want to download the Twinkly app to your smartphone or tablet (iPhone, iPad, and Android devices released over the last 3-5 years are generally supported). Once you set up an account, connecting the Twinkly device to your home network only involves pressing and holding a button, entering your WIFI password, and letting the app run a firmware update. Optionally, you can add Twinkly to your Google Home app or as an Alexa Skill. The final step - and you'll have to do this at night if you set Twinkly up outside - is letting the Twinkly app map your lights out. It uses your smartphone or tablet's camera to do this, so the better your camera is, the better it can discern individual lights in a strand (I used an iPhone 11 to do this step the first time, but my wife's iPhone 12 performed nearly the same). If you have other Twinkly devices (the holiday lights, for example), the app can map out tons of lights for higher-resolution displays. Even just 20 lights like what this set has is enough for some patterns to be recognizable, however. Usage: The app is very straight-forward. You can select patterns or make your own. You can also edit existing patterns that either come built-in or are downloaded through the app. You can also select solid colors for each light, from a single color to an entire spectrum. You can also use the app to set power on and power off times for the lights. This was useful for me as I installed them in my kid's room, where they function as a surprisingly calming nightlight. I used Google Assistant to also set solid colors and power the lights on and off. While different shades of white weren't accurate (ghost white, daylight white, and bright white were cooler than I hoped for while incandescent and soft white were much more yellow), the other colors that Google Assistant recognizes for other smart lights were accurate and switching was fast. For the gamers out there, you can also use Razer Chroma. I didn't try that, but that's nice to have as an option. Drawbacks: The biggest drawback is the power adapter, since it's a wall wart and not in-line or integrated into the controller. Actually, that's the only drawback I can find as it makes it more difficult to do a proper outdoor installation (most covered outlets won't have room for the AC adapter, which means you'll need a short extension cord and somewhere where the adapter and cord won't be exposed to the elements). You can, however, get larger outdoor outlet cover boxes that would fit the adapter. Changing this one thing, Twinkly would be perfect for any installation. Also, the only other issue I had was needing to reconfigure the Twinkly device after performing a firmware update. It happened to me with a Plume mesh network, but with other Twinkly devices I've helped set up on single access point WiFi networks, I've not had this issue. This is very minor though since setup doesn't take very long. All in all, the Twinkly Festoon Lights are great for what they are and something I recommend for a fun lighting alternative you can put anywhere.

We love Twinkly! we have their christmas tree and stars. These are easy to install since they have their own clips as part of the light housing. Fast easy installation and they work great!

Love Twinkly products. All my lights are from Twinkly. Love that I can control the lighting colors, patterns and timing. Very awesome product.

Fun lights. I have them hanging in my office ceiling and everyone loves them. They say I have the most fire office. ;-)

Bought these to celebrate my daughters birthday. Worked great outside and provided a great atmosphere.

Unfortunately, these lights cannot be extended, as they have terminated endings. So if you need to cover a distance longer than 33 feet these will not be the lights for you. This seems like a massive oversight from Twinkly. I very much enjoy their products but I will be returning the packs I bought expecting to be able to connect them together. Massively disappointed. I hope they’ll address this shortcoming in the next generation of this product.

So we just can't wait for the warm summer nights.... these lights are going to light the patio up like party town USA. My wife immediate fell in love with these as soon as we started to try them out. Very Bright... heavy duty cord. Will install in a breeze with the built in hooks. Took about 5 minutes total to have it up and tied to my wife and the app. And that is when the fun started. The built in programs brought the lights to life. The music/noise tie in was so much fun. Easy to customize and set your own color patterns. We are now looking forward to purchase the expansion set. Heavy duty and designed for outdoors. They are a little bulky for an inside usage. So it is going to be a few more weeks, till we can get them hung and see how they do with the weather. but right out of the box, no concerns. So if you are looking to light up your patio or some other space, and want to have the smart features... take a good look at these. for the really creative types, you can make shapes and pulsating patterns.

I ordered four of these packs and only one has all the bulbs working. One of the packs had a couple dim bulbs and when i unscrewed the top, the little led fuses were lose and a couple were in the actual bulb area and not connected. Another pack, the black housing between bulbs looked damaged and had uneven molding. I have about 15 other twinkly products and the festoons are by far the worst. I’m going to exchange them because i want to like them. I also wish they had extensions available and didnt have to individually plug in each line.

The interface and app that the lights have you download is a but clunky, my main gripe is why I should need wifi at all for colored lights? Its not a simple plug and play sadly

I'm so exited to get these outside in my big tree. They will make an amazing addition to the ambiance of evenings outdoors. They are surprisingly bright for their size and also dimmable. They can be set to any color or tone of white you can imagine. The motion patterns available are fun! (not as many yet as the Christmas tree lights) It's unbelievable what the twinkly lights are capable of doing. Add more sets and you map/sync them together. They are easily setup and connected with your smartphone. I hope they come out with many more fun styles, I love my Twinkly!

The Twinkly 20 RGB Festoon Lights are a versatile set of lights with seemingly limitless customization options. Nowadays, most devices are setup and customized via cell phone apps and this set of lights is no different. The setup process is relatively straightforward so even if you haven’t setup many other devices via your phone yet, I doubt you will have much trouble. Things start to get a bit overwhelming when it comes to customizing the lights but not because it is difficult to do so. Trying to decide how the lights should be customized was ultimately the biggest headache since there are so many different options, especially when it comes to picking from the 16 million possible colors but this is likely only due to my personality. In case the 20-light string is not enough to cover your desired area, I read that one set of extension lights can be purchased and physically attached to your original set of 20 lights. If this still isn’t enough, additional sets may be purchased and synchronized with your existing lights through the app but it should be noted that only two strings of lights may be physically connected to one another for a total of 40 bulbs. One cool feature I read about but haven’t used myself is the compatibility with Razer Chroma RGB for gamers. These lights can apparently be synced with your Razer Chroma gaming lights setup to extend your gaming experience to your whole room is you decide to set the lights up in this manner. This seems pretty cool and I’m sure there are many people who would take advantage of such a feature even though I am not one of those people. Overall, I am very impressed with the Twinkly 20 RGB Festoon Lights and I highly recommend them!

Who came up with this stupid idea of not being able to connect them together in extension!

MARVELLOUS Testing these out has been a blast! Out of the box the lights are VERY well manufactured and they feel like stage quality goods. The strand is about 15 feet long and the bulbs have a nice separation gap in between each. The festoon, which means as I learn the style, shape, and spacing of the garland lights. The festoon light bulbs are matted with a white glaze that acts as a diffuser to evenly & calmly distribute the light. The lights do get very luminiferous though, but they do not get eye piercingly bright. At max, the lamps are exquisite and super radiant. But the tour de force is the integration of the Twinkly app with the lights. The app literally lets the user map exactly the way each light is going to color, luminate, and behave. There are also preset and downloadable catalogues to choose from that were amazing enough playlist to keep my family and me amused. The app did take some getting used to but was manageable to easy after a few minutes of pressing buttons. You will need to purchase an additional Dongle sold by Twinkly to fully enjoy the synchronization to music. But with the app open you can play around and get the rave vibe going. The collaboration with Razer software is fantastic and works seamlessly too. Long story short, these are the coolest lights ever made and perfectly hit the Goldilocks zone for every judgeable category. I for one, will be purchasing more lengths to add. 5 stars!!!!!

I have the 20 light strand installed on my patio and they look great. Easy to install and set up with the Twinkly app. I’ve had frustrating experiences setting up “smart” lights before and I’m glad that this was simple and easy to set up. They ability to easily change colors, scenes, and add animations is very cool. The app is very easy to use. I love that you can change them for different holidays or moods and there is even a music adapter that you can purchase separately to have the lights interact with the music. You can also map the location of each lightbulb, giving the app granular control over a single light - that is amazing. This is really such a step forward in smart lighting, it feels like something very professional that can now be used in the home. I’ll be ordering another set and the music sync adapter since I like this so much.

I got these smart lights to replace a "dumb" set of color changing lights on my back patio. Setup was pretty straightforward and I had no problems getting them to sync with the app. Got them hung and started playing around a bit. The app is functional but could use some improvement. Mapping the lights is a trick and I had to take way more pictures that I would think was necessary for the app to figure out my setup. Once I finally got that done, playing with color sequences and designs was easy enough and I was able to save my designs with little problem. The down sides that I've noticed are that the lights tend to flicker some when set to solid white which is where we want to set them when we are eating or just want a decent ambient light. The voice commands with Alexa are very limited in that you can turn the string on and off, set a specific color, or adjust the brightness. There is no way to play a scene or change to one of the presets. Finally, although there is a button on the controller, it works only to turn the lights on and cycle through the preloaded scenes. You cannot use it to turn the lights off or adjust the brightness, meaning you have to pull out your phone or ask Alexa to turn them off which can be a bit of a pain. While they aren't as bright or user-friendly as I would have hoped, they are still decent lights and with some app tweaking hopefully they will continue to get better.

I like these lights since they work for every color so you can be festive year round. The other set I had was just a remote and rotated red,blue,green,white. This allows all color combinations and has an app to control which is a lot easier then the remote. Setup: I took it out of the box and the instructions were very detailed. Basically you plug it in then download the twinkly app and click add. The only issue I had was it took about 3 tries to get my wireless connection to show connected. After that I was able to map the lights and do all kinds of effects. There are also multiple effects you can download via the app. This made the experience more fun. Use: They are bright and the colors look good. The only thing I wish is that there was a cap for the end since they will sit outside. Cons: only 20 lights included. I needed 40 to cover my outdoor area. But you can expand it for another $120. In all for the money they are a great set of outdoor lights. Also Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant pair with these if you want a more automated experience.

I got these because summer is a heartbeat away and was interested in having some good outdoor lights for the deck. The twinkly lights have blown me away! As I sit here on a Saturday night, I just am in awe of how easy and fun the twinkly lights are to setup and use. I have the 20 bulb set, but they seem to be extendable with additional string sets based on the connector at the end. The lights themselves are LEDs and the bulbs themselves are simply diffusers for the LEDs. To use the twinkly lights you need the twinkly app (free and available on iOS and Android). I'll start by saying these were the easiest smart device I have ever set up. They paired quickly with my phone and mesh WiFi network and I was upload custom light patterns in no time. One of the bits of "magic" of the twinkly is you can map the globes so you can play with a hyper custom LED pattern. Mapping was easier than I expected and the whole family had a little too much fun (Ha!) customizing light patterns. I didn't hook it up to my Alex or Google Home, but you can if you want. As outdoor lights, I like that twinkly has given you decent size loops on the lights for hooking them up. I plan to do put up some proper hooks so I can string them properly, at the moment I'm using a bit of fishing-line. This model is definitely an outdoor light (deck, outdoor trees). The space between each light is a little over a foot (19") so you get about 30 foot of lights plus a decent length of cord from the socket to the controller to the first globe. Overall, super impressed. Use them for outdoors either over summer or the holidays. Enjoy the smarts and now you don't need to be jealous of neighbors who, come the holidays, have fancy animations on their outdoor lights. Recommended!
