Slick headphones, great sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The V-Modo Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition is a great pair of over-the-ear headphones. Even with its fancy design, it doesn’t compromise the quality of the sound of the headphones and packs quite a punch. Without using an equalizer on my iPhone, I can hear a nicely balanced sound which is great to begin with. However, I suggest you use an equalizer to hear its full potential. The lows are great and doesn’t hover over the highs so whatever you’re listening to doesn’t sound muffled. The design looks great, and it being foldable just adds to the convenience in storing this inside a nicely designed case. You can also customize how these headphones look! The only complaint I have is the price. Though it may be worth the price, I wish this was a bit more affordable just so more can hear how great these headphones are!

expensive, but worth it
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.the good: - sound quality - a bit of a “V” shaped sound signature, very tight and punchy low end. mids are by no means missing, but just slightly recessed to my ears. clean, crisp highs. compared to the sony and bose (and beats?) offerings in the same price range, there is no comparison. these sound fantastic, especially if you use the right codec (AAC or aptX sound great, SBC sounded noticeably worse in my testing). - build quality - one of the things v-moda is known for is build quality, and these definitely do not disappoint. they feel very sturdy and well made. - codec availability - there is a bit of additional cost for the codex version. definitely worth it in my opinion. AAC and aptX really shine, and SBC is passable if nothing else is available on the source device. - comfort - as opposed to the first version, these have upgraded padding. significantly more comfortable that the previous ones were. if you have larger ears, they offer XL pads which are even more comfortable (though they do alter the sound stage by expanding it slightly - personally i use the XL pads for exactly that). - battery life / wired mode - rated at “up to 14 hours”…in my testing i’m needing to charge it every 2-3 days, so battery life isn’t amazing, but not too bad either. an added bonus - they work absolutely fine in wired mode with absolutely no battery, just like a normal pair of headphones. - passive noice cancellation / low sound leakage - no ANC, which i personally feel is a positive (not a fan of the pressure and slight hiss of ANC). they do a fairly good job of passively isolating, and there’s very little sound leakage. - folding - they click/fold down into a very compact shape, considering their size. - case - excellent hard case included. time will tell, but it feels very durable. - custom options - some people will like this and others won’t care, but you do have the ability to personalize these somewhat, with printed shields in a variety of colors and materials. the bad: - nothing for me misc: - some may not like the design, and i’ll admit i was a bit on the fence at first. after using them for a bit, the design has really grown on me. overall: headphones are such a personal preference that it’s hard to say whether or not an individual will like these. i absolutely love them - the have a fun and exciting (if not entirely neutral or accurate) sound, they are super comfortable and easy to transport. easy 5 stars for me.

Overrated
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first started djing, I used these for hours on end and got them for the look. After dabbling with other headphones and learning more about my music tastes, I realized how overpriced these are! I gave these a second chance and I absolutely confirmed my feelings on them. The sound isn’t worth the price you’re paying.

Great Looking, Sound Better
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These V-MODA headphones look great and sound better. We all want things that are designed well. These are really nice looking. I like the way that they look better than most other headphones. That's subjective and everyone will have a different opinion. But I think that everyone will agree that they sound great. The headphones are clear and produce a nice bass sound, which is always important to me. If not, the music just sounds flat. Pairing was fast and I especially liked that they don't require an app. Some headphones now do, and I just want to pair and listen. I know that once you download the app it's not a big deal with some others, but seriously, I have enough apps. Some of them don't add that much value to the headphones. Just let me listen. V-MODA did. The controls are simple and are similar to every other headphone that I've had, but the buttons are bigger and I like their placement on the side of the earpiece near the top rather than the bottom. Side is best because it doesn't shift the headphones when you press the buttons. My only gripe is that these are over the ear headphones and I think that they could be a little bigger. They're not uncomfortable, but just small enough that while putting them I had to move them back and forth a little to get them over my ear. My ears aren't huge, but I don't thin that they're small. It's just worth mentioning, as your mileage may vary. Once on, I have no complaints. They're comfortable and sound great.

Great Headphones!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love these headphones! They sound amazing, they are extremely comfortable to wear, and they appear to be pretty durable. I mainly use them connected to a Windows 10 PC via Bluetooth with the Dolby Atmos plugin. When it comes to audio, I am pretty picky. I look for a full, clear sound in a variety of settings including music (modern and classical), action, games, and videos. After listening to all of the above, I have been extremely impressed. They worked well in every category. I tried connecting them to my computer and phone simultaneously. They connect but can only play from one source at a time. If I am listening to music on my computer, the phone is muted. I would prefer to hear both but they still work better than previous headsets. This is my third type of Bluetooth headphones and the only one to connect to two devices without issues. The previous brands said they could do it but it never worked as well as these. I also really like the switches. The power switch is a slide switch instead of a button. This makes it so much easier to turn on, off, and pair. The volume and play/pause buttons are also easy to feel and operate - no guessing required. The one and only negative is that these take a long time to charge. Battery life is good but it takes a while to get there. I am guessing the battery is much larger than my previous headphones.

Great, durable wireless headphones
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have gone through my fair share of headphones over the last few years. Beats, Sony, Bose, Bang & Olufsen, Sennheiser, Sol-Republic, Bowers & Wilkin, and V-Moda. I have tried just wireless headphones, wireless noise cancelling headphones, wireless earbuds, and wireless noise cancelling earbuds. My wife would say that I'm picky and I always find a pair that I like but either end up returning or selling because I discover something I don't like about them 2-3 months after I buy them. So I finally decided to get rid of my Bose (due to Bluetooth issues) and not get a pair of noise cancelling headphones but rather ones that had good physical isolation. I still have a pair of V-Moda M-100 wired headphones and they have served me well. They're 7 years old now but still look new. They've been dropped, splashed with water and other chemicals, and have survided multiple trips to the beach. But they're wired only and I want a wireless solution. Enter the Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition. I had held out on the previous wireless Crossfade headphones as they relied on the SBC or SBC and aptX codecs. Well, I have iPhones and iPads and wanted to take advantage of them. Apple uses SBC or AAC for Bluetooth. Now that V-Moda supports AAC, I decided to give these a try. The build quality is still top notch. These feel like tanks. There's a lot to be said about using metal and faux leather for headphones instead of plastic and faux leather. I have twisted the headband every which way and it always pops back. The earpads are easily removable and can be replaced ($20), the outer earcup covers area removable and you can order them in different colors/materials and even customize them, they fold up into a small factor, and their rigid carrying case is extremely durable while having just enough space to hold the headphones, their charging cable, and their 3.5mm cable. There are small plastic covers on the case that can be removed just in case you use these headphones in a warm environment and they need to vent. The rose gold accents are a nice touch and match well with my iPhone XS Max. V-Moda doesn't specify the version of Bluetooth these use on their website but some are reporting Bluetooth 3.0. It doesn't really matter as wireless connectivity to my iPhone has been rock solid. I can get about 150 ft away from my iPhone (with direct line of sight) before the connection begins to drop out and about 60 ft away from my iPhone through a few walls. These also connect to two devices at once so I can watch a movie on my iPad and answer a call on my iPhone without having to un-pair and re-pair the headphones to each device. My only real complaint is, just like with every other pair of Bluetooth headphones, their latency is corrected for on a per-app basis. So some games are fine, the iOS default video player is fine, Vuduu is fine, as are Netflix and HBO. Some app, such as Amazon Prime Video and YouTube, don't correct for the latency and there's a visual (and audible) gap between when the sound should play and when it actually plays. I'll either plug the headphones in (which work even when their battery is drained) or just use Safari for watching YouTube videos. The Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex headphones have the widest soundstage I have heard from closed-back headphones. There is a wide separation between instruments and I can almost pinpoint where an instrument is playing in a room. Before, with the M-100's, V-Moda focused on lows and highs while having slightly recessed mids. They were still more detailed that most mainstream headphones but they distinctively had a v-shaped sound signature. V-Moda has since changed the drivers in their headphones and these are much more balanced. The bass is still heavy but it's never overpowering. The mids come through with great detail as do the highs. These are still fun sounding headphones but they're more accurate and balanced than the M-100's are. Not as nuetral as the B&O H9i or B&W PX headphones but definitely more fun. I have a big head and these are comfortable to wear for hours on end. They do have more clamping force but the earpads are larger now and more comfortable. There isn't much room in the earcups and, for some people, these will be more on-ear than over-ear but they fit me just fine. They have a slim profile and don't stick out like most other headphones. They are also much more comfortable than the B&W PX headphones, those aren't comfortable at all. The only true issue I have with these particular headphones is that they charge via microUSB. At this point, everything I have is either USB-C or Lightning. Lightning for my iPhone and USB-C for my MacBook, iPad Pro, Bluetooth speaker, and even Apple Watch (its a USB-C to puck cable). It would have been nice to not worry about having one additional cable that's a different (old) format. Then again, the cable fits in their case just fine so it's not the end of the world. I highly recommend these headphones. They sound great, are well built, you can customize them with inexpensive aftermarket parts, their battery life is still pretty good (14 hours), V-Moda has an excellent warranty, and they have a great trade-in service. You'll have to deal with miroUSB and no noise cancellation but their noise isollation is pretty good.

Fancy looks and modern wireless connections
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love these headphones. Sounds great when I listen to music and movies. I got the matte white one and the silver metal details of the headphones adds a fancy touch that I like. The padded rings fits just right and it is very comfortable to wear. Mine came in a matte gray hardshell zippered case which makes very easy to travel with. Set up and wireless charging were painless. All those fancy looks and modern wireless connections are useless if the sound doesn’t measure up. My test song was the studio version of Tom Sawyer from the prog-rock geniuses, Rush. OMG! Every sound was perfectly in place and balanced, from the low end of the bass guitar and synthesizers to the bone cracking sound of the snare drum. But, try these babies out with your own personal jam and find out for yourself what I’m talking about. Not the cheapest headphones on the market, but totally worth it!

A New Favorite! New Bass Tech Really Works!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I owned a pair of V-Modas when they first came out years ago and while the build quality and style of V-Moda headphones have always been spot on, sound quality was just not there for me. I consider myself an audio enthusiast. I won't call myself an audiophile anymore because I got out of that expensive racket a while ago (I still love great sound but I realized that there is a good in-between nowadays). That being said, I still have a test playlist that I run new 'cans' through but that is just so I can decide if I can live with the sound signature or not. I would list the songs here but I have done it in another headphone review here on Best Buy. If you really are interested, comment on the review and I will at least put up some of the highlights. V-Moda has come a LONG way in the sound department since they started in 2004. To me they were the original Beats. They were too heavy on the bass, and it was a 'flabby' bass at that and bled into all the other frequencies and totally colored the music in a way I did not appreciate. They still had the points though for build and style, while Beats don't even have that going for them and are still junk. I was skeptical about these new dual-diaphragm drivers, but darn it, they actually deliver. The bass is much tighter and controlled and is distinct from the mids and highs. Are they audiophile quality? I'd have to say no but then again I was known to drop $1000 plus on headphones and there really is no comparison between ANY mainstream headphones and the ones that are up at the pinnacle of art. Are they REALLY good for their price point, yes and very much so. Again, this is because in addition to the great sound, they are also extremely well built and styled very well. With the new customizable plates you can really turn these into a masterpiece. You can also tack on quite a bit of money to them depending on your choice of material. I had hoped the plates I had ordered would arrive before I had to write this but I'm still waiting on mine. I got some laser cut out fiber plates that are going to look incredible on these. Oh, I should also say that these are not reference headphones either. They have a definite bass-forward sound signature, but it is controlled well enough that virtually every genre of music I threw at it sounded good. I have a pretty wide range of music too. I have everything from Mozart to Metallica and Elvis to Eazy-E. All of them have sounded great. I only have one quibble with these headphones. One of the side-effects of having such a rigorous build on their headphones is that V-Modas have always had a pretty tight clamping feel on the head. If you have an exceptionally large head, you may not enjoy these for long periods. I'm ok with them anywhere in the sub-two hour range but that is about it without a break. I also find that it isn't the clamping that gets to me, it is the lack of any swivel to the ear cups. I think they would be a lot more comfortable if they were able to adjust more to the angle of my ears on my head. That would create a pretty big fail point for the headphones though (it is where a lot of headphones can break when they are totally made out of plastic), and I understand why V-Moda perhaps didn't take that route. In the past, V-Modas would never have been anywhere in my top 10 for headphone recommendations but now I feel that they have earned a place perhaps even in my top 5 (again, I have removed the stratospheric headphones from that list now). The Crossfade 2s are a great set of headphones that sound super, look fantastic, and are built like a tank. These are such a better choice than the current market leader.

Looks and quality. Excellent!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unboxing- What a treat. If you’re a fan of actually unboxing items and get a certain satisfaction out of popping tags, V-MODA does you one better. There is a little piece of ribbon that must be cut to get into these headphones. Maybe kind of overkill for some but it makes you feel like you’re unboxing something special, and you are. The hard shell case looks like it will do the job protecting the headphones and it comes with a braided 3.5 plug. Build- These things look like they’re built to withstand being beat up. Military grade durability is not a joke. A steel frame and screws that hold everything together, it doesn’t look like you’ll have any problems snapping these or plastic pieces breaking off like some of the other top headphones in this price range. Very flexible, whether you’re DJing or if you’ve got kids that like to yank them off of your head. The earpads are very comfortable and seem to have some type of memory foam. Sound- Wooh. These sound nice. Crisp highs and low bass with zero distortion. It feels like these have noise cancelling but I don’t know if that’s actually what it’s called. Very little noise gets in when using these to listen to music. I listen to everything on the musical spectrum and haven’t found anything that sounded “bad” through these. It optimizes the sound when playing thru your iOS devices. Leave them wired for the highest quality sound! Battery- Listening normally, you can get up to 14 hours of battery which is pretty good for the quality of the headphones you’re getting. I would never listen to 14+ hours of music but I do forget to plug things in to charge them…so this helps. Extras- You can customize the outside earpiece covers for these and the extent of the customization is actually pretty broad. Check it out, you’ll be impressed. Even though these headphones sound amazing without one, I wish it came with an app to control the EQ on them. I feel like this doesn’t take away from the headphones but it’s always good to have that option. I thoroughly enjoy these headphones and I think if you’re looking for a customizable high end headphone for a high quality audio then look no further than this one!

Superb headphones
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are some amazingly comfortable, great sounding headphones. Taking them out of the case, they immediately are noticeable at how well built and solid they are. They were folded up nice and tight, The metal arms that hold the ear pieces are metal and really heavy duty. These should last a long, long time. First test was to pair them to my PC. It was flawless and the sound from them is perfect. I was hoping to be able to pair them to my home receiver that has a bluetooth logo but I learned that they just don't work that way and aren't supposed to after a quick google search on bluetooth receivers. They did come with a cord, not a very long one though, for wired connection. With that, they sound incredible through the receiver and after picking up an extension cable at Best Buy, I can sit on my couch and listen to music and watch movies privately without disturbing anyone. These headphones are absolutely perfect. Comfortable, nice to look at and fantastic sounding.

Excellent Headphones, Superior Audio & Comfort
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These headphones are great. Very comfy with memory phone ear padding, and excellent sound. While it's true you will get more accurate hi-res audio with a wired connection, the wireless sound is just as superb, and there is no noticeable difference (that much) to me. What really stood out to me from every other pair of wireless headphones, is the customization that can be applied to the side plates on the headphones. I searched around the website a bit and you can get everything from custom designs to 24k gold plated plates. Crazy. Not something I would want to do, but to have that option is something different and very welcomed. These come very highly recommended.
