So I get that some viewers were disappointed because they were comparing the performance of the characters in the movie to the comics, which doesn't do the movie justice. If you just watch it purely from a cinematic standpoint, without comparison, you won't be disappointed. Fans seem to forget that movies based on anything are ALWAYS going to vary and take a few different directions. That's what is fun about it, is you get to revisit something beloved, but with a new twist. the effects were great. I absolutely enjoyed this movie. There is so much to see in it that you would need to watch it more than once to really see it all.

I never read the comic it’s based on but have always been a fan of THE FIFTH ELEMENT from this director. The film itself has a FANTASTIC opening sequence, and from there it’s a film that is not perfect (I have some casting qualms in particular) but was really mis marketed. The Bluray itself has a great Dolby atmos sound mix and looks as good but glossy as a CGI heavy film is expected too.

Wow stunning visual affects!!! 4k is just awsome!!!

It was a lot more fun and entertaining than Avatar.

I had big expectations, as this is from the guy who did “The Fifth Element”, unfortunately I really didn’t get into this movie. Not what I was hoping for.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets - 4K -Dolby Vision The HDR is Dolby Vision. The picture is amazing. The opening scene is beautiful. I bought the movie for a few reasons. New 4K OLED TV with Dolby Vision and I wanted to test Dolby Vision out. I bought a 4k player with Dolby Vision and realized afterward that a lot of 4K / UBD movies don't use Dolby Vision. That said, Dolby Vision is just as good as HDR10. The sound is better. Dolby Vision sound set at 29 and HRD10 was at 39. Second, I'm a fan of Luc Besson films and never seen this movie. I recommend this movie if you are a fan.

Sci-Fi, for those who love it, has to only meet minimal criteria. Writing: spend dollars on a credible story that keeps the audience wondering and adheres to some logical (even if only internal) explanation. This was messy, eventually unsatisfying, although it adheres to the comic book. But, I'll watch awful 50s Sci-Fi repeatedly, so I'm an easy sell. Characters: You've got to love the characters. The need to have some serious commitment to their story or else I won't believe it, either. Big miss. Spending money on actors who bring credibility makes a difference. The leads were cute. Chewbaca was cute, too. ET was cute. Not going to carry a movie alone. Careers may have ended here. Special effects. Now a necessity, these alone won't sell a movie. These were wonderful, often unique, but ultimately, not enough. Disappointing, frustrating, and not a very compelling re-watch. So much promise, so close, and yet, production money spent on all the wrong things.Too bad. I'm going to give it 3 stars, because it wasn't Battlefield Earth bad. It is watchable Sci-Fi for the die hard fan, dazzling and noisy. Not much else.

this movie will take you on a fun journey. Lots of visual details with great colors and sound to keep your senses busy. The Atmos sound check at the beginning of this disc is fun too and almost worth buying just for that alone (I have not heard this Atmos sound check on any other Atmos disc yet and it is one of the better ones I have seen and heard. I don't think the lead male actor in this movie was the best choice by the casting director, but the female lead was nice to look at!

This movie has some amazing special effects and it makes you believe these worlds truly exist. I can't say the same for the characters and the storyline, though. I'm sure the actors are terrific, but the characters are written without much depth, and with a sketchy but pedestrian backsory. The story skips many details and makes assumptions about what the viewer knows. Maybe the details got left on the cutting room floor. Great eye-candy without too much strain on the brain.

A movie for your kids that have out grown cartoons, but not old enough for Deadpool. This movie is visually stunning, but lacks story depth.
