This film can be all over the place at times, but it looks spectacular and has some fun set pieces.

From the director of "The Fifth Element",a flawed

In 1997,director Luc Besson made a significant contribution to the annals of cinematic science fiction with "The Fifth Element",a visually stunning and offbeat movie. It would seem that he's trying again with this film, based on the French comic strip "Valerian And Laureline" by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres...regrettably,despite an able try,it appears that lightning isn't striking twice for the director. Part of the problem lays in its leads,Dane Dehaan (Chronicle,The Amazing Spiderman 2),who really isn't the leading-man type and Cara Delevingne (Pan,Suicide Squad),the chemistry between the two questionable at best, despite the fact that the pair are supposed to be playing lovers. Fortunately, the movie is still worth a look for its dazzling visuals, amazing even for something made after James Cameron's "Avatar". Also in play here is Besson's trademark sense of humor, which might not elevate this movie to great heights, but prevents it from becoming a dry, forgettable film.

The steel book design is pretty great looking. The movie is visually spectacular but you have no idea what they are trying to accomplish in the film until maybe the last 10 minutes. Cara Delevine puts in a great performance. Her costar is meh. I bought for my 9 year old who is a huge sci-fi fan. She at least enjoys it and that's all that matters when it comes to this movie.

A lot of sparkle, but not enough heart.

Valerian sounds like a new name for an STD and it’s a shame, because I like the director and the two stars are good in other things. Nothing about this story made me love or even like these characters in any way. I was more interested in the creatures and the spectacle than anything the main characters were doing. It is a shame that the spark was missing, because this movie had all of the right stuff to make it magical, but for me it fell short. I think less sparkle and more character development or relatable characteristics in the protagonists would go a long way. You can tell that the director was going for something special, but I could not make myself care about these characters. It’s watchable and fun if you can sit through surface level characters, but the lack of depth pulled me out of this one. It’s beautiful in many places and it has moving moments and fun elements. It’s worth a watch and it’s fun, but it doesn’t wow me in the way it probably could and should have.

    Interesting Sci-Fi Images!

This movie, Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets, has interesting dynamics between the two young male and female pilot stars. It's also cool to learn about their characters' developmental backgrounds as the movie develops. But what I liked equally as much was the interesting sci-fi images of the "aliens and their unusual powers and philosophies!" Those were effectively counterposed to the somewhat expected "formula" general plot, and made the film worthwhile and kept it from being ho-hum boring and too predictable!

I think that "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" was one of the greatest sci-fi/action films of all-time and it was also one of my favorite sci-fi/action films of all-time. Cara Delevingne's role in this film and in "Suicide Squad" were both really amazing. I first saw this film in theaters and I immediately enjoyed it and I also think that "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" had a lot of entertaining, exciting and enjoyable action, mystery and suspense including an exciting and original storyline.

I really enjoyed this movie. The visuals were absolutely stunning and the plot was a run ride. The only disappointment I had was they tried to push the relationship between the two main characters. Unfortunately, there was not much chemistry to make it believable. However, that never detracted from the fun and it is worth checking out.

Never saw this in the theater. Wanted to, just never made it. It's really to bad this movie didn't do better because this 4K experience was an incredible delight to behold. 4K or not this movie really is pretty awesome. Visually it's magnificent and even the story itself was pretty cool. Wish we could look forward to seeing more of it but the lackluster performance in the box office, almost certainly not. As far as this 4K purchase though, VERY happy with it and have watched it a couple of times already in as many weeks!

Probably one of the most overlooked films of 2017, Valerian is based on a successful comic book and it has charming protagonists in an amazing interstellar setting. The truth is that audiences didn't give it a chance, and they should, because it's a great movie. Also, watch it on HD, that's the only way to truly appreciate the scope.

This movie was so close to being 5 stars. During the first 10-15 minutes I was thinking to myself that this was one of the best/coolest movies I'd ever seen. Then the story went off the rails a bit. There were still some spectacular visuals and action scenes but they couldn't make up for the shortcomings in the story itself.

I've seen it 3 times now. Once by myself, once with the wife and once with a friend. wasn't all that interested to see it the 2nd time but it was actually better than the 1st. 3rd time I found even more things to like about it rather then dislike. I expect the 4th time it will start to become a guilty pleasure for me.

I'm not sure "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" will become a cult classic as Luc Besson's other oddities such as "The Fifth Element" or "Leon: The Professional"...but I found the film to be far more entertaining and visually pleasing than I did with "Lucy". Blu-ray quality, the Picture is superb and the Audio is amazing.

This film didn't rate high reviews from the critics but neither did The 5th Element, his previous movie. This is a simpler story than the Element but carries similar stunning visuals and is an entertaining movie with decent characters. I believe time and college campuses will carry Valerian to the cult status of it's predecessor.
