The Steam system has a majority of the available PC games on the market from the big developers to independent. This equivalent to an iTunes card lets my son spend the money however he wants for new games (all at different price points) or in-game purchases.

You can't go wrong here. It's a typical giftcard that anyone would get. Yes, you can directly go to Steam and give them your money but you can also buy a physical card and send it to your favorite person. Who doesnt like mail these days.
