This is the fourth time I've purchased this film, each time hoping that the audio will be re-mastered and corrected. Unfortunately it has not. I really enjoyed the film's fusion of the different classic Universal Monsters into a special-effects beat-'em-up. Sadly, the film has always suffered from a poor audio mix that is short on bass levels and is clearly missing an entire range of sounds. The film was released this way in theaters, and has suffered the same flaws on DVD, HD-DVD, BluRay, and now UHD BluRay. I hope it's fixed in the future and remixed for Atmos.

This movie was originally shot on film but what was digitally scanned to add the CGI. This is obviously a quick up-convert by re-encoding it into 4K. HDR is garbage, almost too dark to make out most of the film, but does have DTS:X (no Atmos though, sorry Sonos owners). Universal has gotten extremely lazy, unless Fast, Furious or Jurassic is in the title, they won’t put any money into it. This does have the additional Blu-ray and the digital copy so it’s not a total loss; if you’re a big fan of this movie or cast/crew behind it, this probably the best you’re gonna get, it just could’ve been better. Given that it has faded from the mainstream and the Dark Universe reboots (which this should’ve totally been the launching point) failed, I doubt Arrow Video (who has recently been restoring Universal films in 4K) will pursue it. Kinda hope they don’t since I bought this, but I doubt it.

On paper Van Helsing has A LOT of things going for it. It's a horror film that throws back to Universals roots with their horror classics starring the insanely talented Hugh Jackman. Unfortunately the sum of its parts do not add up to a strong Horror outing in this place. The quirky comedy that made Stephen Sommers' Mummy films a fun ride fall flat in this Vampire tale that also includes Werewolves, Frankenstein and even Dr Jeckyll/Mr. Hyde. The ideas of the film are too ambitious for the time the film was made so many of the visual effects feel half backed a decade after the films original release. Universal's hope was to create a homage to the Horror classics they made some 70 years prior but the inclusion of so many of these characters makes the film feel overcrowded. In the end if you are a die fan of classic horror this will be a fun ride but the casual fan just may not get what the filmmakers were trying to do.

You have to be a big fan of this type of movies in order to remotely like it. Monsters galore - with all the monsters having incredible powers until the good guys have to win the battle.graphics made this movie tolerable to watch otherwise too far fetch for my taste. Mr Jackman played an interesting role and might have been upstaged by Richard Roxburgh in some scenes. If you like the Dracula type movies you'll need to see this version.

I had heard a lot of good things about the 4K for this movie, but I was not blown away. I also feel like I remember the movie to be better than it was. Skimmed through the movie when I first got it, haven’t watched it since. If you’re a fan of the movie it could be worth getting because it is a decent upgrade in 4K, but it wasn’t a big enough upgrade for me to feel really satisfied with my purchase.

This Stephen Sommers thrill ride is a fun action film. In my opinion, the story is really messy nd I think all the material in the film would have been presented as a series of films. It's really busy, but an entertaining watch.

I think it is a halfway decent tale for another spinoff of the underworld dark and sinister fight against vampirism movies, but it throws more of a drawn out plot which can be taken too far out of context from the millions of Dracula tales out there

For an older title it hangs with the latest 4k movie i would recommend

Probably the biggest guilty pleasure I have. The movie looks awesome and sound incredible. But that doesn’t change the fact that it’s not a good movie

Not a movie review. For uhd, I didn’t notice much difference in 4K. I already owned a Blu-ray of it.

Bought it to see 4K difference . Not much on this one . Blue ray will die as for the movie it's ok if you never seen it

One thing I noticed about this movie right off was the transfer to 4k was not so good on most scenes

Fun universal monster cheese. Sure looks very good and the CGI held up pretty well in my opinion

Not the best movie in the world but its not bad either. Its a fun fantasy romp.

Don't really like this movie, but I pretty much buy anything with kate beckinsale.

Cheesy fun and Kate Beckinsale in tight leather. What else do you need?
