Misleading. This item does NOT include the base. I purchased this item expecting to receive a full Food Processor. You are basically spending $200 for a plastic mug. It does not come with a base. I am returning this item asap.

Full Disclosure: I received this product through Best Buy’s Tech Insider Network in exchange for an honest evaluation and an unbiased review. I always like to mention the product's packaging first because not everyone has a Best Buy store around the corner. Many BestBuy.com customers simply have to hope for the best that their expensive order will be handled with care by the various shipping entities that will lay hands on it. The box and packaging were very sturdy and all of the parts were well protected for shipping. Actually, the box was a bit challenging to open and the snug packaging made it hard to get the parts out safely. I finally ended up cutting part of the outer box to open it. All-in-all this food processor would have been very well protected during shipping. In the box: Small food pusher Large food pusher Snap-on lid Work bowl Self-detect base Blade storage container Small shred/thin slice disc Large shred/thick slice disc Multi-use blade Welcome to the family booklet. Owners manual. Food Processor Attachment Book This food processor works with a Vitamix Ascent Series A3500 Blender base. It is not a stand-alone food processor. The processor has a Self-Detect base that fits securely on the A3500 blender base. The Self-Detect base means the motor base is able to read the container size you’ve chosen and automatically adjust program settings accordingly. The first thing I noticed about this system is the intuitive design. All of the parts stack securely and efficiently within work bowl and store away nicely. Also, because it uses my A3500 blender base, this food processor attachment eliminates storing another stand-alone appliance. The second thing I noticed was the weight and heft of the heavy duty cutter blades. They're made of some pretty heavy steel. There's nothing cheap about the blades. I've never seen any other food processor blades as stout as these are. The work bowl has a capacity of 12 cups dry and 9 cups liquid. The bowl and lid attach to the base easily. There are safety measures that keep the blade from turning without the lid being properly placed keeping all fingers safe. The powerful A3500 blender base turns the heavy food processor blades with ease, even against tough foods. I shredded potatoes with ease, made salsa with a nice even texture, and chimichuri sauce that was well emulsified. This is one powerful tool. The bowl, lid, pushers, and blades are clear and dishwasher safe. The base wipes down easily with a rag or sponge. This 12 cup food processor attachment is a powerful and efficient addition to my Vitamix Ascent Blender. I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone wanting to expand their Vitamix Ascent 3500 Series countertop appliances.

This Vitamix food processor attachment works with the Ascent blender base or any blender base with Self Detect technology. The base unit knows that the food processor attachment is being used, so it will adjust the power and speed accordingly. This is the perfect accessory attachment to the Vitamix blender in that it can perform in ways the blender cannot. There are no program modes available for the food processor, so the controls are as simple as On, Off, or Pulse. The speed is adjustable from 1 – 10 via the Variable Speed Dial. The unit comes with a 12-cup (dry) work bowl, a large food chute and pusher, and a small food chute and pusher. The cutting implements include a multi-use blade, a dual-purpose large shred/thick slice cutting disc and a small shred/thin slice cutting disc. The unit also has a Stack & Store feature where all the parts/pieces fit together when not in use. Food processors in general are fantastic food prep time savers! I’ve found that I use this unit more than any others I’ve owned due to the convenience of having 2 appliances in one on my counter. I’m able to do a lot more in less time, which has allowed me to consider new recipes I wouldn’t have considered in the past. My 1st attempt was a chicken salad variation the included home-made mayonnaise. I made the mayonnaise in the unit and then used it to chop the rest of the ingredients. I then sliced all my veggies for a salad, and it worked flawlessly. There is a definite sweet spot that needs to be discovered when shredding soft cheese that varies with the cheese. But once you find it by varying the pressure on the food chute pusher it works fine. I used the multi-use blade for pizza dough, and for grinding chunks of beef and pork for meatloaf with no lag or loss of power. I even managed to chiffonade spinach for an omelet and sliced hard pepperoni for pizza using the thin slice disc. I could not be more satisfied with this unit and the support provided by the manufacturer that includes a 3-year warranty on the Food Processor attachment and a 1-year warranty on the blades and discs.

The Vitamix Ascent 12 Cup Food Processor Attachment works with SELF-DETECT® motor of the Vitamix Ascent Blender, which will automatically shut off if the Processor Attachment isn’t assembled correctly. The Vitamix 12 cup Food Processor comes with container, food pusher and 3 blades. One Multi-use blade and 2 reversible blades as described below. - The multiuse blade - finely chop, mince, knead, and mix ingredients. - A Small Shred/Thin Slice Disc - finely shred and create thin slices of ingredients with this reversible disc. - Large Shred/Thick Slice Disc-Coarsely shred and create thick slices of ingredients with this reversible disc. Instead of a standard twist-lock mechanism, The Vitamix Food Processor is just stacked onto the SELF-DETECT® base The work bowl and lid snap together for easy use. The work bowl holds 9 cups of liquid or 12 cups of dry ingredients. The Vitamix 12 Cup Food Processor has a storage compartment for all parts and blades. The Vitamix 12 Cup Food Processor user manual gives step by step instructions on how to store all the components and blades in the storage case. The snap on lid as noticeable “clicks” that let’s you know it’s on securely. The lid has the opening for the large food chute for the included food pusher. I’ve only used the Vitamix Food Processor a couple of times thus far. Using the Multiuse blade, I made my own almond butter and chicken salad according to the recipe in the included sample recipes booklet. Both came out better than I expected. The chicken salad was a breeze. It only took me a few minutes to makes using the Food Processer and a few pulses to combine my ingredients. It used to take me almost an hour to make my chicken salad having to manually chop and dice the ingredients. I recommend the Vitamix 12 Cup Food Processor attachment to complete the users Vitamix “experience”. The fact that it uses the same base is a big plus as you only need to change the attachments instead of dragging out a whole processor, including the base

    Great processor

This is a great way to get two machines in one. If you already have a Vitamix Ascent series of blender, you can add this self contained food processor to it in place of the blender cup. The base accepts this interchangeable optional food processor the same way it accepts the blending cup so there's no added steps to use either one. Just lift one off and put the other in it's place. This processor is really well designed and has storage in mind. All of the parts store inside the mixing cup. The cutter discs store inside as well and are kept safely in an individual container with a snap on lid. This is a great add on attachment for your Vitamix Ascent blender. By using the blender base, you have all the power you need for food processing already, and don't need to store yet another entire kitchen appliance. I like the processing discs, they're printed on each side with the type of processing they provide, so it's easy to find the right one at a glance. If you've used food processors before, you probably won't find any exciting new features with this one. It's major strengths are that it works with the Ascent base you already have, and that it stores neatly and securely in it's own mixing cup. I can say that using it was a pleasure, and it shredded and cut whatever I threw at it with no trouble at all and did it very quickly. Clean up is easy as it is with the blender cup. You can use the self clean mode button to give it a quick clean, but you can also put the parts in the dishwasher for thorough cleaning. The mixing bowl includes both metric and standard scales that are printed in white and very easy to read. All the parts assemble and disassemble very easily and the they all just work very well. If you get tired of buying a stand alone appliance for every task in your kitchen, then you may want to consider getting this processor to minimize storage needs and maximize versitility.

Good attachment but stand alone is better

Overall, this attachment works well and is a nice space saver. I prefer a stand alone unit since it provided me more consistent results and less wear and tear on the motor itself, since I use my Vitamix quite regularly. Setup: Vitamix includes only 1 type of blade which is nice but I think and alternate blade would provide more versatility. I really like the 2 discs included since that allows significantly expanded functionality. They also come with their own case. There are two food pushers and a decent but not large size 12 cup container. It easily snaps in to the Vitamix blender but it is a two piece set up. Processing: This processor is compatible with the different presets on my A3500 but it doesn't really translate since I don't use a food processor to make milkshakes, soup, or frozen desserts. It is helpful for the dips/spread mode. Overall, I pretty much only use the manual mode, similar to most stand alone food processing units. I use the disks regular to cut and slice vegetables and cheese. It cuts through them like butter and provides a nice, even cut. I make large batches for the week without difficulty. I use it regularly to meal prep my favorite pesto recipe as well. The difficult part is the learning curve with the manual mode of the blender. It's not an exact science and I feel like I need to modify my technique each time. The most difficulty occurs when using this for kneading dough and making baked goods. The results were inconsistent and hard to get right. I think with time this will improve but overall, a good stand alone unit will be better overall. In general, I think this is a great attachment overall with some inconsistencies. It is a useful space saver by reducing the need to an additional unit. I don't necessarily like the additional wear on the motor. I know Vitamix is a high end brand, but I do think this is slightly overpriced. There are a lot of other units to at least consider at this price point, but you can beat the all in one option.
