I was very disappointed in this product. The title and photo combined make it sound like this is the entire food processor when in fact it is only an attachment for the blender. It wasn't until after purchase and opening that this was discovered. If it is just an attachment then state that in the title of the product not 4 or 5 paragraphs down into description. Very deceiving!

When looking for an ecosystem of products for the kitchen, you will not find a better product line than Vitamix. They are renowned for their blenders and rightfully so – while on the higher side of price options for blenders they are regarded as stellar performers. This 12-cup food processor attachment certain Vitamix blender bases is a perfect companion for the blender as it negates the need for another standalone unit. It simply attaches to the blender base by an auto detect technology and won’t operate unless connected correctly – a nice design feature. I have used this product in all manners of food processing and this product delivers wonderfully! The options are numerous and are: mince, slice, chop, knead, shred and mix and there are different blades included to perform all these functions. The unit performed extremely well on all the settings. The operation of this product is easy to understand and has made food preparation for meals an absolute breeze and reduces time in that preparation. All in all, this is a wonderful product! Please keep in mind you need a compatible Vitamix blender base to use this product.

This food processor is an attachment for the Vitamix Ascent mixer base. At a whopping 12 cup capacity it can do a lot of hard work in bulk therefore saving a lot of time in the kitchen. Two blades are included, one for larger cuts and shreds and the other for smaller cuts and shreds. The components are high quality as is expected of Vitamix products. Also, having a Vitamix motor ensures power and consistency. This food processor attachment is easy to use, powerful, has great capacity, and is easy to clean. It is a great tool to use when I need more work done.

    Amazing Food Processor!!

The Vitamix 12 Cup Food Processor is a great accessory to an already amazing blender. The Vitamix Ascent 3500 pairs with the Food Processor to make a high-powered slicing and dicing machine! The 3500 is a robust and powerful blender with Bluetooth connectivity. Using Self Detect technology and your smart phone the Vitamix App knows whether or not you have a normal blender or a food processor container attached to the blender base. Its super cool and something I never even knew I wanted or needed until now. The app itself can control the blender and on top of that has 100’s of different recipes with ingredient lists, nutritional facts, and the order in which you should add the ingredients to the mixture. It will provide me with plenty of ideas going forward and I’m really excited to try all of them out. I really am blown away by how good their app is. The food processor itself is super solid piece of equipment. It’s a very hard plastic that feels like quality, but won’t break if you drop it on hard tile. It comes with multiple blades and a nifty plastic storage container for all of them. The processor pairs beautifully with the blender if you just want to go old school and pulse as needed. My mother in law this weekend used it to make chicken salad and it worked beautifully and was super easy to clean up. The release button under the handle is particularly useful to release the plastic from the blending base to just clean the plastic container. It’s almost like Vitamix thought of EVERYTHING when they were making this. I’ve never come across a more intuitive Food Processor and I’ve used a lot of different ones in the past. This food processor is everything I could want and more in a blending system. Also check out my Vitamix Ascent 3500 blender review as it goes into detail about the blender itself and how great this entire system is. I am a huge believer in Vitamix now and look forward to having this appliance in my kitchen for years to come!

Perfect Accessory for the Vitamix Ascent Blender

When I got the Vitamix Ascent Blender, I thought that I would need to make some more room in my cupboard because of all the other gadgets that I had in there, and the first thing that came to mind to ditch would be my bulky, standalone food processor. Enter: The Vitamix Food Processor attachment! This really is such a smart idea to have a food processor accessory for the powerful Ascent blender, and spoiler, it works like a champ. For ease of use, it’s ridiculously easy - just use one of the three blade attachments for your particular use case. The #1 blade sits in the bottom of the unit and is meant for fine chopping or pulverizing. The other two blade attachments are multi-purpose where each one has two chopping thicknesses - you just flip them over to whatever thickness you desire. Very smart. Just like the blender, the 12-cup food processor attachment is built extremely well, with a durable construction and it’s designed intelligently for both efficiency and storage. The top lid fits very securely with latches on and has a rubber gasket to ensure that no liquids seep out during use. For storage, the two flat blades for slicing and shredding fit into a little storage container (so they won’t get nicked and to prevent any accidental cuts); that little container fits on to the lid, and then you just flip the whole thing over and that fits into the main bowl. It’s really intelligent how they designed the storage. Clean up is convenient where all the pieces come apart and can be cleaned easily. There are no small crevices that I noticed where errant food particles could hide and what’s also nice is that the 12-cup main container detaches easily from the base that interfaces with the blender itself. Overall, this is the perfect accessory for me, being able to extend the functionality of the Ascent blender while saving space.

The Vitamix Food Processor attachment turns my Vitamix into a great food processor, and instead of having 2 machines, I save a little space in the cupboard. Obviously it's not just about space savings. The Vitamix Food Processor does everything you could ask from a food processor. The blades are easy to switch out and the cuts are consistent and uniform. And the Vitamix base has plenty of power to get through any job. If you own a Vitamix, this is a must-have attachment

I didn’t really understand what the hubbub was all about with Vitamix blenders…until I got one. WOW. To get this out of the way, it can basically blend anything I threw at it. Frozen fruits, large ice cubes, nuts…pretty much everything and that has to do with it’s 2.2 horsepower power and it’s sturdy, stainless steel blades. Power should not be an issue, but what about noise? At the lowest setting, it’s very quiet. At the highest setting, it does make some considerable noise but I never found that I had to use it past 7-8. It has 10 speeds and each speed has a “+” setting so all in all, about 20 variable speed settings. It also has 5 pre-programmed settings for specific uses like frozen desserts, spreads, soups, and smoothies. And then it also has a dedicated setting for cleaning. All of these are controlled with a touch interface on the front for the settings and then a nice, well-built dial for the speed. Sounds strange but the dial is satisfying to use. There’s also a dedicated on/off switch on the side if you wanted to always keep it plugged in. The 64 ounce included container is equally as well built and the quality really shines. The lid fits very securely with a rubber gasket preventing any leaks and then on the lid itself is a plug that you can remove to use the low profile tamper to mix around ingredients safely. It also has a 10, yes I said 10 year warranty on it so there is no need to worry if anything were to go wrong with it. I can’t express enough the quality of this blender. It is by far one of the highest quality kitchen appliances I have ever used. A tremendous amount of thought has gone into every aspect of this blender and if you want something VERY powerful and is sure to never disappoint, this is the way to go.

Excellent addition to the Vitamix 3500

First, just so there is no misunderstanding, this is not a standalone unit. It is a food processer attachment that you connect to your existing Vitamix Ascent base. For reference, I use the Vitamix Ascent 3500. Basically, it sits on your main blender unit in the same way the blending cup does. Just pop it on and it will self-detect that it is installed and ready to use. You would use this processer unit interchangeably with the main units’ cups, but you only use the single Vitamix base, saving counter space. This is a great accompaniment for anyone that likes to have versatility with their blender. I like that it comes with multiple blades so you can adjust easily depending on what you plan to process. Also, all of the parts compact easily into one piece for storage. This has been a wonder in our kitchen. A great addition to an already perfect Vitamix unit.

Adds tremendous value to the A3500 blender

The Vitamix A3500 is a fantastic blender. But what really makes it invaluable to me is this 12-cup food processor attachment. Like my previous, dedicated food processor, it includes a detachable, multi-use propellor-like blade that sits in the bottom of the processor. However, unlike my previous food processor, it also includes two slicing/shredding disks that can be placed at the top of the processor. I used one of the disks to slice and shred vegetables for my favorite Moroccan stew recipe and was amazed by the efficiency of the disk. Vegetables placed through the top of the processor were pulled through the disk by gravity and chopped instantly. Pushers are provided but weren't really necessary, the blades are so sharp and effective. Whether the vegetables were sliced or shredded depended on which side of the disk is placed up; I had to figure this out because the otherwise excellent instructions did not mention this. With food-processing blades as sharp as these, safety is a real concern. Fortunately, Vitamix contains good instructions for handling the blades and disks, and the product itself has a number of safety features to prevent accidents. Like the blender, the food processor comes with suggested recipes, and I tried the vegan date brownies. Chopping and combining the ingredients with the multi-use blade was simple, and the resulting brownies were out of this world. One neat thing about the food processor is that, despite having many parts, the instructions explain how to stack them most efficiently for storage. Attention to details like this is what makes the Vitamix blender with the food processing attachment such a high-quality product, worth the price if you are serious about food preparation.

    Great food processor

When I first saw the Vitamix food processor I was skeptical because it and all the pieces that come with it seemed so big. However some of the parts stack together so they don’t take up as much storage space as I thought they might. With a 12 cup capacity it is large enough to make pie crust or pizza dough without worrying about exceeding capacity. The instructions were well-written and easy to follow. When loading the work bowl off the base it is easy to add ingredients. However once on the base with the large food pusher in place, it's a reach for me when pushing vegetables and fruits into the slicer. About 2 inches shorter would be ideal. It comes with 3 removable blades that are well labeled with their purpose. The “thick” slices were about like my hand cut thin slices. I would prefer the “thick” slices to be a little thicker. It is very fast and can slice 6 apples in about 30 seconds.. The blades are all removable and the work bowl easily detaches from its base. This is very helpful when emptying the container. The plastic repels the contents, making it easy to get everything out. There are cautions about only touching the blades by the center grips, but when I finished using one of the blades I put it in the sink to wash it, and promptly sliced my thumb. The parts, including the blades, are dishwasher safe. Just be carefully of the blades when unloading the dishwasher! If you have the blender with a cleaning program that uses the same self-detect base, the food processor can be cleaned that way. The lid is made of the same rigid plastic as the work bowl and it is difficult for me to put it on and take it off. When removing it I have to forcefully pry off one side and then the other. When attaching it I have to slam the lid latches with my palm. Even then, sometimes all the pieces don't connect and the self-detect feature gives an error. At the same time, it’s nice that it does give an error when everything isn’t put together as it should be. My only concern is the plastic that the lid is made of. I feel like it might break or crack after awhile. If it wasn't for that, I would give it 5 stars.

    Food Processing WITH Adjustments Needed

    |
    Tech Insider Network Member

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

In my review of the Vitamix 12-cup Food Processor with SELF-DETECT I give this product a 4 out of 5 star rating. I’ll start with a confession that I’ve been chopping and mincing with a knife for 30-years so this is my first food processor. As a newbie, I had to read the instructions a lot to figure out how to put it together and use it. I will note that the unit was well packaged with strong protections on the blades. I tested a chicken salad recipe from the enclosed booklet, which instructs you to put the main dry components into the mixing bowl and then pulse to chop. Though I followed the instructions to the T (quartering the apple, cutting the celery down to 3-inch pieces, etc.), the processor produced a very uneven mix. The items on the bottom were pulverized and the pieces on top did not get drawn down to the blade. I dumped it out and had to do a second pulse of the large chunks. In the end, the salad ended up finely minced to the point of near-mush. Next time I’ll do it in stages and mix it separately, but that defies the intended benefit for ease of use, hence my "WITH Adjustments Needed" Review Summary comment. I tested the rotating blades to see the difference between small vs. large shred, and then the small vs. large slice. Frankly, I only saw minor difference in the shred. The slicing was nominally noticeable, but not by much. I sliced carrots and the consistency was not tremendous, but when I tested a cucumber it was perfect. I can definitely see the benefits this appliance will offer with food prep… especially if you’re doing a chop-heavy dish like ratatouille, or if you hate chopping onions. I think I’ll get better at making adjustments the more I use it. Two final notes: 1) I appreciate that the non-electric components are dishwasher-safe. 2) I also appreciate that you can stack all of the pieces together for storage… though the nested items simply rest inside the bowl unevenly. The illustration suggests it’s a snug vertical fit but I would say it’s loose and tilted. Altogether, I’m happy to have my first food processor and this one has a lot of power, options, and benefits.

This food processor works far better than my big bulky food processor that I am now getting rid of. Several attachments store well in provided storage configuration. So easy to store this device because it is an attachment and it saves space. Certainly would recommend this product. Can't think of a negative.

This isn’t your typical blender. This device is a tour de force. It’s impressive 64 oz container is generous enough to allow for at least two huge smoothie servings at a time. We love the self cleaning feature. Just add one or two drops of liquid dish soap, half of water and in one minute your rinsing the container and placing it on the dry rack. I had been meaning to get back to a healthier diet by avoiding process foods as much as possible prior to quarantine. So when this opportunity came around to reboot, I was happy to get my hands on this newer model and bring to life some new smoothie creations. Enter the Vitamix Ascent which introduces us to a digital LCD screen, Bluetooth connectivity with many additional blending settings thru Vitamix’s app, and also a fancy hard cover cookbook for those wanting creative ideas to begin their blending journey. I began my Vitamix experience by taking a trip to the grocery store for some items. BerryNutty antioxidant smoothie -made with seeds no nuts 2 cups fresh power leafy green mix, 3 cups antioxidant frozen fruit berries mix, 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds, 4 tbls chia seeds, 1 cup mango juice, 1/2 cup heavy cream. This smoothie is loaded with generous amounts of plant base protein, fiber, and antioxidants. The mango juice serves as a sugar base liquid that will compliment the berries. The pumpkin seed gives the smoothie a satisfying balanced semi nutty taste. What impressed me about the Vitamix Ascent, is how finely blended the raw chia seeds turned out. Smooth and silky, NO GRIT! This is why this blender is worth it! Sorry got exited! I began tinkering with the food processor attachment unit. This is sold separately. The food processor comes with a package of two additional discs. Each of those additional blades have a two fold function, you simply turn them over for (thin slice/ small shred) or (thick slice/large shred). I did not discover any additional settings on the app when I placed the food processor on the base, I believe it’s only for the blending unit container. For those taking their blending experience to the next level and want to get things done faster. We used the multi use blade to grind crackers down to a soft crumb for pie crusts. Happy that it has a manual setting button cause sometimes you want to have that control for more chunky homemade salsas. Easy to store away. The possibilities are endless. Pluses: 1. Large 64 oz Container 2. It’s 4 settings on display pad (and 17 additional settings with Bluetooth) 3. It’s powerful and NOT absurdly loud like the Nina Duo 4. One base - two functions blender and food processor Minuses: 1. The apps “Pantry” feature is a great idea, however it is limited by what Vitamix inputs in its platform. (please add cocoa protein powder) I would suggest a photo capture feature where you can take a picture of the nutritional facts of any for faster customizable upload. The Vitamix Ascent is my new muse. Makes me want to breakout in song, “Nothing compares to you”.

The smart detect for this is really cool. Put the food processor on the base, and the blender options are gone and the food processor takes over. The blades are very intuitive, you have the main blade for pulsing, then there are plates for fat slices and course shreds then another for thin slices and fine shreds. This was perfect for fine shredding carrots for salads and carrot cake! I used the basics with babish pie crust process and it worked super well to begin making the pie dough. The smart connect is where it’s at. Not needing multiple appliances is very helpful when building an Arsenal of cooking appliances.
