Great size, horrible sound

Granted, I am a bit of an audio snob, but I knew that I was buying a low-priced speaker and expected it to at least meet basic quality standards. I have a VIZIO soundbar now that bought a few years back and love the sound quality. My only problem is that it is pretty big and blocks the remote sensor on my TV so I was looking for something more compact. I went with this option based on my trust of the VIZIO brand, but it fell very short of expectations. The mids are entirely too sharp and even with manually changing individual settings or using the preset EQ options it doesn't soften at all. The bass is booming, but it is all power and no finesse. Everything that played through the speaker sounded tinny and echo-y. To make sure it wasn't my cable or my TV, I hooked my old soundbar back up and everything sounded great again. It seems to me like VIZIO went cheap with parts for this, and while it looks like scores of customers were ok with the sharp loudness of this speaker, someone with my preferences couldn't stand it. It was almost painful, especially when any dialogue was spoken with the letter "S" as it sounded like a piercing hiss. I am hoping this is the exception and not the new rule for VIZIO, because I was very happy with earlier products. I will be returning this set without a doubt.
