Warning to composite cable users

Hopefully I can save you the couple of days of frustration I spent trying to hook this TV up using a composite cable (yellow-white-red). We have a Verizon FIOS adapter (not the main set top box) for this kitchen TV. Verizon is still in the 1990s with this technology - all they offer is a coax connector or a composite cable. From a technical viewpoint, composite is much more preferable than coax due to coax being more susceptible to noise and signal degradation.
We investigated on line and decided that this Vizio D24h-G9 was the best choice to replace our kitchen TV. I saw in the specs that it uses a "phono port" connector that combines composite and component functionality - only one type may be used at a time. The "phono port" is a 3.5mm TRRS four conductor connection. Fine, I looked in my box of cables and found two perfect cables: yellow-white-red RCA on one end and 3.5mm TRRS plug on the other. OK, down to Best Buy we go and picked up the TV. Of course, the composite input doesn't work. I tried many combinations of switching the inputs around and...nothing. Spent about an hour on the Vizio support chat and they had no idea. Finally, after many hours found a "Phono Port FAQ" on the Vizio site where they recommend one adapter cable on Amazon which you apparently HAVE to use with your composite cable to mate properly with the way Vizio wired the "phono port".
Here's the problem. There's no real standards on these TRRS connectors. So it's not like most other A/V cables. You can't assume that if you have the right connectors on the ends that the cable will work properly because the manufacturers hook them up in no particular way. And Vizio doesn't document the required pinouts - neither does the magic adapter cable from Amazon that actually works. Do yourself a favor and get that magic cable from Amazon before you buy this TV if you need the composite cable hookup. And yeah, Best Buy doesn't carry it.
The TV looks nice and I guess I'll like it more after the pain of the last few days fades away.

I wanted to like this TV. I really, really did. But I just couldn't. I gave this tv about 6 months, thinking I'll get used to it or I'll find the right settings to make it work better. This has to be the slowest operating system a TV could possibly have. I tried it on multiple WiFi networks, the internet is not the problem. The user interface is so painfully slow to use, and many times the TV just crashes. Yes, you heard me - a TV can apparently crash. Pretty much daily, the TV will have one of the following problems:
- Turns on with no sound. After about 20 seconds, it figures out something it wrong and just restarts itself.
- Will just completely freeze, to the point I need to unplug it to restart it
- Crashes. It freezes when attempting to access a menu, and then just shuts off and restarts.
- Is EXTREMELY slow to turn on, change channels, change inputs, or to respond to the remote control. It can take upwards of 30 seconds just to turn on and get to the Smartcast Home Screen. Forget about using the Vizio free channels, it's so painfully slow to navigate you'll get hungry before you find something to watch.
Here's the breakdown:
Pros:
- Great picture
- Very lightweight
- Price point (note - you get what you pay for)
- Unfortunately, that's about it
Cons:
- Sound quality is pretty bad
- Extremely slow user interface
- Extremely slow turn-on
- Freezes often
- Likes to turn on with no sound, then restarts itself
- Definitely not my favorite usability around the Home Screen. I've used Roku, Samsung, LG, and Insignia smart TV user interfaces, and this one by far ranks dead last in simplicity. It's far too busy, way too many things on the screen and different categories. My wife just refuses to even use it because she can't figure it out.
It's too late for me to return this thing, so I've moving it into a guest bedroom where it will be only minimally used.

It takes an incredibly long time to turn on EVERY SINGLE TIME and has a weird lag when changing channels. I bought 2 other smart tvs around the same time. The other 2 were Samsung and much easier to operate, take less time to warm up and generally much better. I will never buy another Vizio tv.

I wanted to replace my old PC monitor. I knew from the description/comments, I could use this as a monitor. I love that it has 2 six watt speakers. That's way better than my monitor at 2 two watt speakers. The only negative for this monitor is that it doesn't have 1080 HD. The newer models do but have smaller speakers again. I guess you can tell which is more important to me. I am happy but should Vizio put out another 24" tv, I hope they'll incorporate both features. I am glad I grabbed this model before it was gone for good.

Does Not Support Prime Video

I bought two of these TV's for use in bedrooms and mainly for use with Netflix and Prime Video, but after not being able to get the Prime App to open on either TV I called Vizio and they said Prime Video is not longer supported on this TV. He seemed surprised I even had the app on the TV. I hadn't installed the app if just came on the TV and is show on the advertising on the front of the box (you can't install any apps on this TV, you get certain apps and to view anything from an app it doesn't have you need to use a mobile device to "cast" it to the TV - frustrating you can't just download the apps you want and delete those you don't).
If you want Prime Video and the ability to add apps do not buy this TV. I returned both TV's the same day for a Insignia Fire TV and they work great.

Hello oscar1234, the Prime video application is supported on this television and should work without issue. If Amazon in not launching as a general rule you can preform a factory reset and this will resolve any registration problems. If still not working please contact our customer support at 877-878-4946. We are also continually evaluating new applications for addition for the SmartCast input.

This is my 2nd Vizio- this same exact tv. It was the right size for the kitchen, and I liked that it was a smart tv. It connects to everything great; images are pretty good, but the click-through on the tv is horrible, and transferring to different apps takes literally forever-- very poor performance in this area. I have the best internet Xfinity has to offer and have no issues with the 5 other TVs in the house so it is not internet lag related. The first one had the same issue, and eventually, the screen just started blurring out and the sound stopped matching the timing of the shows, then the screen died all together. We had it for maybe a year. I thought, perhaps, we had a lemon, and 24 inch smart tvs are hard to find, so I tried it again, hoping for the best. Such is not the case. This tvas the same lag right out the gate. Its impossible to get past. I do not recommend this tv in any way. This will be the last chance for Vizio.

The smartcast is constantly not working, sporting a blank screen regularly (every two weeks or so). You'll have to call support and reset it to factory settings so often it will drive you nuts. And with every reset you will have to re-enter all your streaming apps account info and re-organize your home screen every time. The customer service reps will help you do this, but it is such an inconvenience and honestly, you shouldn't have to do this. I am thankful it is only my kitchen tv and i didn't spend a fortune. I will probably cave eventually and get a new one from samsung or lg, as the other smart tvs i own give me zero problems and i have had them three to five times as long. If you only use this tv for one app like netflix, it probably wont bother you; but when you have six+ apps on it, it isnt worth the headache to save a few bucks.

Picture quality is great when it actually functions properly. I have an extreme lag between the remote and the tv. You push a button and 10-15 seconds later the function actually goes through. Apps close and freeze randomly. I can't access Netflix anymore. I try to open it up but when it gets to the home screen and just crashes and closes out. I have apps the freeze in the middle of streaming and the whole tv freezes to the point where I have to unplug it and restart it. My Roku and Amazon fire TVs have no issues.

I've had this TV for about 6 months and I'm not impressed. Half the time it takes forever for it to just turn on then once I get it going it says it can't connect to the internet which none of my other smart TVs have this issue. Also Netflix seems to be the only app that ever works. When I press anything else it just freezes up then shuts down! I just bought this is to watch some TV while working for home in my office and it's not worth the price. Wish I could return and spend the money to get a decent tv :(

Not a fan… have to restart the tv all the time because it always glitches and pauses for no reason, the sound is horrible and commercials are always so much louder than the actual show. I have tried to play around with it to get it equal but nothing worked. Wish I kept my receipt

Had this TV one month. Since the very first use, this thing has had issues. I guess that's what happens when you buy the cheapest 24 inch TV in the store... but I still expected better than this. It's always having trouble connecting to our wifi, which works well on all other devices in our house. It seems like every other time we go to turn the TV on, for some reason it just doesn't work. We use the TV every night for about an hour before bed. When we try to turn it on, about 50% of the time I have to get up and unplug it from the wall, then plug it back in and try turning it on again. We bought this so we wouldn't have to get out of bed to mess with it, like with our super old TV. Seems like that was high hopes and $130 out the window.

Problems from day 1

shipped with next to no protection in the packaging.
Set the TV up, and it stated it needed to restart. It shut off and wouldn't turn back on.
Had to unplug it a few times and then finally got it on again.
Need to unplug it at least once a day, and just yesterday the screen turned green and froze.
Another time I lost video but audio stayed on.
This whole experience is very frustrating.
I don't have any best buys where I live, so i need to go through the website. Apparently there's NO ONE working at best buy right now. Called, emailed, online chat-- all seemingly disabled. Just keeps telling me to try again later.
This sucks. I just want to return the thing!
