The software on this TV is garbage.

SmartCast is dumb. That pretty much sums up my experience with this TV. The specs are great and this is one of only 2 TV's at this size that are 4K and have HDR. The problem is that the software simply does not work. I tried to fix it several times with no success. I reviewed the support FAQ and I spoke with a Vizio technician who eventually told me that there are known bugs that are being worked on but they might be delayed because of the corona virus. That might be Ok if it wasn't for the fact that the problems I was having were reported by users on a Reddit forum over a year ago. I was never able to see the SmartCast home screen and if I pushed the SmartCast button the remote the TV went black and the remote failed to work after that. I could not change to another input source. I could power the TV off and watch streaming apps with the software on my Playstation but that's not really what I should have to do with a "smart" tv. I returned this garbage TV and bought a TCL TV with the Roku operating system and it works perfectly. Do yourself a favor and avoid any Vizio TV until they can sort our their bug ridden and nonfunctional software.

I have only had the set for three weeks. It began messing up after a few days. The picture suddenly gets lines in it and blue dots in the background. Then it starts rebooting itself. I fix it by doing a power cycle, where I turn the TV off, unplug it, and press and hold the power button on the TV for 10-15 seconds. That fixes the problem for a day or two and then I have to do it again. The Geek Squad guy who installed it told me to call him if there were any problems. I called and left a voicemail but he never called me back! When it works OK, the picture is only fair and the sound quality spotty. Wish I had never bought it.

Bought this as a secondary TV to keep in my bedroom. What a joke.
Do not buy this TV. The useless Vizio software makes this TV little more than a glorified paper weight. I will only be buying Sony televisions from here on out. I love my 55" Sony Bravia in the living room and have had zero issues with it for the last two years. I'll be replacing this piece of crap with another, smaller Sony Bravia for my bedroom. Never again will I cheap out on a TV. Lesson learned.

I actually returned this product because I felt it was too limiting for my experience.
Ended up picking up a Sony. It was a little pricier but it’s very accommodating to what I Ultimately wanted.

I purchased this TV solely for use a computer monitor, however I have had numerous issues that have resulted in one return and now issues with the second unit. The first unit had visible lines in anything orange colored after a couple months of use. Initiated an RMA and got a replacement. The replacement came with grouping of dead pixels, but this honestly was no major issue as they were in a corner and inconspicuous. However after using the replacement now for a couple months, I'm again running into clarity issues. When looking at MS Excel spreadsheets, black text in a red background is visibly jagged and distorted. Other colors such as black are off now as well, appearing sort of brown / red instead of a crisp black. The colors are distorted and so out of focus it's literally giving me headaches when I had no issues for the first couple months. I've adjusted every possible picture and input setting in an attempt to mitigate this to no avail.
I will say if you are using this for only a TV or even video games, it works great and I don't notice this distortion. However if you need pixel level clarity such as when using for a computer monitor, this is best avoided. The main reason I purchased aside from the great price is that it's not 43" and is 120mhz refresh, but this does little good with such distorted colors that seem to only grow worse over time.

i bought this tv in may 2020. loved it at first. in may of 2021 it started giving me problems. of course after the warrenty expired. i would power it on and it would say no signal. check connection. the hdmi cable was connected to ther tv and cable box. i moved it to another hdmi port and it worked. a few weeks later it did the same thing. i moved the cable back to the original port and it worked. figured it may have been a connection issue after all. replaced the cable. it did iit again. this time i just turned the tv on and off and it fixed the problem this occured sporadically until now. then about a week ago, jab 2022 it would not power on or off for about an hour. by remote of button on the tv. i did finally get it to turn on and called vizio support. the tech was good. he checked to make sure i had all the updates. i did. he then had me do a reset using the power button. that seemed to fix the problem with both the button on the tv and the remote. about an hour later it started doing the same thing. i figured there was something wrong wioth the tv and decided to replace it. not with a vizio. i have had many tv manufacterers over the years and never had a tv give me problems after less then 2 years. i ordered an LG. i will never purchase a vizio again.

At VIZIO we pride ourselves on our highly rated picture quality. To make sure you’re getting the most out of you VIZIO TV, we’d recommend making sure your devices are connected with an HDMI cable, and are set to broadcast in 4K (2160p) or Full HD (1080p). You can also individually adjust your picture settings in the menu. For brighter rooms try using the ‘Calibrated’ setting, for darker rooms try ‘Calibrated Dark’. If you’d like any assistance adjusting these settings, our customer support team would love to help you dial in the TV to your preference, you can reach them at 855-833-3221.

We have tried adjusting the color, then doing a factory reset. It helps on some channels. There is too much yellow. Would not purchase a Vizio again, but there are not many 40” TVs to choose from.

Hello Susie, Thank you for the feedback. A few things that might help you get the kind of picture quality you are looking for. First, make sure the Display is getting a hi-definition or 4K signal. This means making sure that your source device (like a cable/satellite box) is capable of HD or 4K, and that it's connected to your Display with an HDMI cable that can deliver the HD or 4K picture. You can also change between pre-set picture modes on the display by pressing the PIC button on your remote. This will toggle between a few picture settings that look good in different situations. If your display is in a bright room, try Vivid or Calibrated. If it’s in a dimmer room, try Calibrated Dark.

At the time the price was good for the tv but man do i regret buying this brand. Everyday....every single day i have to "soft power cycle" aka soft reset the tv everyday...every single day...just so itll connect to the wifi which happens to be 10 feet from it just so i can open up the stupid Smartcast tab and watch hulu/netflix. Meanwhile my ooold first gen tv with wifi has no problem staying connected to the wifi and its 3 rooms away from the router.

Nice TV with a firmware issue

TV picture is good for the price. The problem was a firmware update. TVs software is updated automatically on setup. The update made all apps (except Netflix) inaccessible. Tried a factory reset, no luck. Called Vizio, went through many steps (internet connection, factory reset, etc) and rep concluded that the firmware was the issue. “You need to wait for an update“. One could still connect a media streaming device, but it would be nice to get what you pay for.

Hello GerBear, as televisions continue to have larger screens with thinner profiles and sleeker bezels, there is less room for large speakers. Especially for outside usage as there is a much larger area to fill from the television. To help get the best audio quality out of your VIZIO televisions speakers, we’ve included settings like DTS Studio Sound to provide the highest performance possible, while maintaining the thin, sleek, bezel-less profile of your television. If you’d like any help adjusting your audio settings feel free to contact VIZIO support at 855-833-3221.
For top of the line audio performance you may also look into purchasing a VIZIO Sound Bar, there are several models available with wireless subwoofers for enhanced bass, rear speakers for true surround sound, and our new line of Atmos Sound Bars.

Hi John. We've recently updated the SmartCast Home platform to load more quickly. Glad to hear it's working! We've also added Apple AirPlay 2 support, and Google Cast support. So you can share apps like Disney+ from your phone to your TV. We'll make sure to keep adding features like this to improve your TV. Thanks for the feedback!

We loved our 7 year old 32" Vizio and had no reservations about getting another one. But the picture and sound quality on the old one was actually better than the new 40", 4k TV! The color was either whitewashed, using the recommended settings, or distorted with bright greens and reds. I couldn't get a happy medium. Definitely need a soundbar with this TV. We are returning and going with a different brand.

Hi Tlcw. With all of the applications and technologies becoming available these days- it can be difficult to ensure devices have the applications you want. Our VIZIO TV's offer two services (Google's built-in Chromecast & Apple AirPlay 2) that let you send Disney+ content to display on your TV. We also have plans to release the Disney + app in the near future. For the latest information on Disney+ and any other app- just visit support.VIZIO.com and search for the app.
