    PQ at 1080p not great

A couple of years ago I bout A 40" Vizio with 1080p resolution and the picture quality was very good. A tad over-saturated colors as others have pointed out, but very good. Recently I bought a 4K version of 40" Vizio and am somewhat disappointed in the picture quality at 1080p, which accounts for most of the currently available streaming contest. The picture is not bright even on Vivid settings and off-center viewing is poor. The sound quality is also inferior to the older Vizio using external speakers. They must be using a cheaper sound card/circuit, I would return it except for the fact that at 4K picture quality is pretty good, although not the best, and is better than the cheapest 4K TVs I've seen. Too bad Vizio doesn't offer an earphone out. Computer speakers, which are much less expensive and better quality than sound bars work well using the earphone out instead of the analog out, which produces a slightly echoy distorted sound.

Hello codeblue, Thank you for the feedback. A few things that might help you get the kind of picture quality you are looking for. First, make sure the Display is getting a hi-definition or 4K signal. This means making sure that you're source device (like a cable/satellite box) is capable of HD or 4K, and that it's connected to your Display with an HDMI cable that can deliver the HD or 4K picture. You can also change between pre-set picture modes on the display by pressing the PIC button on your remote. This will toggle between a few picture setting that look good in different situations. If your display is in a bright room try Vivid or Calibrated. If it’s in a dimmer room try Calibrated Dark.

As televisions continue to have larger screens with thinner profiles and sleeker bezels, there is less room for large speakers. To help get the best audio quality out of your VIZIO televisions speakers, we’ve included settings like DTS Studio Sound to provide the highest performance possible, while maintaining the thin, sleek, bezel-less profile of your television. If you’d like any help adjusting your audio settings feel free to contact VIZIO support at 855-833-3221.

For top of the line audio performance you may also look into purchasing a VIZIO Sound Bar, there are several models available with wireless subwoofers for enhanced bass, rear speakers for true surround sound, and our new line of Atmos Sound Bars. VIZIO

I really enjoyed this tv. I bought it to replace a 32” that was over 10 years old because i wanted more than 720p and a larger screen. I didnt bother buying the extended warranty because my 10 yo tv was still working. This tv stopped working almost 3 weeks after the warranty expired. I’m disappointed but glad i kept my older tv. I will never buy this brand again.

Literally everything about this TV is perfect.......except for the fact that Vizio is goofing all of us with the refresh rate. It is not 120 Hz, it is 60 Hz. It doesn’t matter that Vizio keeps replying that the refresh rate is 120 Hz, it just isn’t!! I’ve hooked this TV up to my Xbox One S and the option of variable refresh rate DOES NOT EXIST. 60 Hz is the max. Vizio even has 120 Hz listed on their WEBSITE. THEY ARE DELIBERATELY GOOFING EVERYBODY BUYING THIS TV. Will more than likely return it because now I do not get the specific perks I wanted for gaming. Way to waste my time Best Buy and Vizio.

Hello AnAngryGamer, this television does not support the variable refresh rate feature some gaming devices have started to use. However the television does have an effective refresh rate of 120 Hz. If you have questions about the television refresh rate please contact our customer support at 877-878-4946. VIZIO

The Best Buy description is wrong. The refresh rate of this TV (V405-G9) is 60Hz. The manual says 60Hz. The TV's system data says 60Hz. It's definitely not 120Hz.

Purchased Dec 21 2019. Worked pretty well. But choosing the INPUT channel, (cable, nintendo, Roku, HDMI 2, HDMI 3 etc. ) Is problematic and takes a long time to switch over. This morning 6/13/22 woke up and the upper part of the screen was dark, then went out entirely. Can not recommend

It took about 40 minutes for all the firmware updates right out of the box. I thought it had locked up. The settings needs a lot of tweaking to get a decent picture. It is way too bright and colors washed out. It also seems a bit fuzzy to me. I would return it but I need a 40 inch TV for my space and this is the only one I could find. My 43 inch Hisense 4K was perfect right out of the box...I may still return this.

    Did we get a dud?

We read all the glowing reviews but after 2 evenings viewing we reverted back to our 40” Samsung 1080P five year old TV. Overall the picture quality was marginal, colors washed out, very poor sharpness and 4K or UHD programming was bad. We also have an LG 43” 4K TV in another room that blew the Vizio away. We might have got a bad one but for now it’s going back and won’t be replaced. I must have 40” in this room and Vizios the only brand that makes 40” with 4K and UHD so it’s a shame. If others saw what we saw then I’m dumbfounded how you could rate this TV above one or two stars. Maybe we’ll see if BB has one hooked up when we return this. Can’t see anyone who would find the picture quality acceptable.

Hello Dano, At VIZIO we pride ourselves on our highly rated picture quality. To make sure you’re getting the most out of you VIZIO TV, we’d recommend making sure your devices are connected with an HDMI cable, and are set to broadcast in 4K (2160p) or Full HD (1080p). You can also individually adjust your picture settings in the menu. For brighter rooms try using the ‘Calibrated’ setting, for darker rooms try ‘Calibrated Dark’. If you’d like any assistance adjusting these settings, our customer support team would love to help you dial in the TV to your preference, you can reach them at 877-878-4946. VIZIO

I wish the tv had more apps. The only reason I bought the tv is because I though it had Directv Now. I was so disappointed to find out it wasn’t built in. Debating if I should return and buy a amazon fire tv where I can get the apps I want. Very disappointed!

I’ll be watching tv and next thing I know the sound is off! It does this in all hours of the day. It’s so frustrating when my daughter wants to watch her cartoons and the sound suddenly goes off and doesn’t come back on!!! I got my tv in January and did it once, I disconnected it and turned it back on and worked. It didn’t happen again, until a few weeks ago and now it happens everyday no matter what I do!

Hi Maya. The TV shouldn't be dropping audio. Does the audio cut out on multiple sources, or just one device? As an example- if the issue is only happening when you're watching your cable box, but not when you're watching Apps, the issue could be with your cord or the cable box itself. We'd be happy to help you diagnose the problem, and get it taken care of. Just give us a call at 1 (855) 833-3221. VIZIO

    Sound is terrible

I was gifted this tv for Christmas and the sound is absolutely terrible. I don’t listen to the tv on a high sound, about 5-20 depending on the day/show. The sound is echo-y and sounds as if the speakers are blown. I’ve tried changing the settings and nothing helps. Would not recommend based on the sound, absolutely horrible.

No one told me this tv did not come with an owners manual or how to get one. I'm no youngster so I'm not too tech suave. How might I get a manual so I could use my tv? Sorry for the rating. I guess cost cutting leaves us old folks to fend for ourselves.
