Good sound, has to be power cycled often
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sound is great when it works, if you pause what you are watching it loses connection and has to be power cycled to hear again. I have turned off the energy saving mode for the soundbar system, so that is not the problem. I have a Vizio p series tv, and it is connected via hdmi arc, so it should just work.....

Sounds really nice to me
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have never had a sound bar or home theater of any kind... I got this for the Dolby Atmos... It sounds really good to me... It arrived with the latest firmware.. For what I paid I am completely happy and no regrets... You MUST use the Vizio app to adjust the sound to your liking. Put surround sound ON to hear the rear speakers. All speaker levels can be adjusted... We have gone in our house from TV speakers only to the point where we actually complain if a movie doesn’t use all the speakers... It worked well with HDMI ARC... we use ARC as the input source... the green light for Atmos is momentary now in the latest update... use info on the Vizio app and it will say Atmos if you want to verify it truly is in Atmos mode... As to the hearing of sound locations and upfiring speakers, I am not such an audiophile to discern it well... It just sounds really nice... No sync issues with the video, but I purchased a new 40” tv also... The sub is amazing to us... So far no complaints from my apartment neighbors...

great for the asking price
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really would give this a 5/5 if my ONLY flaw with this is that the action scenes get softer in sound, but louder in regular non action scenes. still delivers great Atmos overhead effects and good rear surrounds. Endgame and Hacksaw Ride are highly reccomened for Dolby Atmos with this soundbar where both of those movies had me ducking my head!

Great!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just picked up the soundbar yesterday. It took about 30 minutes to set it all up. Set up was pretty easy. It is replacing a Sony CT290 2.1 soundbar. Which was great but I wanted a 5.1 or Atmos setup. For the price of this soundbar it was an easy decision. Sounds amazing compared to my Sony. I have a Sony X930E hooked up to it over the HDMI ARC. No issue getting Dolby Atmos with Vudu app on the TV. I know it’s the lossy format which is sent over Dolby digital + but it sounds great. I have my Xbox One X hooked up to the HDMI on the soundbar and had no problem getting Atmos on the Blu-ray app playing my 4K Blu-rays. Also the Microsoft movies app supports some movies in Atmos too. The only small issue I ran into is that my Apple TV 4K won’t do Atmos over arc. It has to be connected to the hdmi input on the soundbar. But that’s on Apple. Apparently they use a different way of sending Atmos over DD+. My TV won’t recognize it to send the signal to the soundbar. All in all I’m very happy with the purchase.

Excellent budget amtos system
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Look up the rtings review for more details on the technical. I been waiting for a full Atmos system that checked all the boxes for awhile and this one was it. My buddy has a 1500 dollar Sonos system that sounds slightly better then this, but not 1k better..

Great entry level dolby atmos setup
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was a bit hard to connect to the Vizio app and to update to latest firmware, but once connected, update when smoothly. Subwoofer was a bit overpowering, but once that was turned down to minimum, the overall sound was very balanced. Works well through hdmi Arc on my Sony X900h for both movies and gaming.

Great addition to 4K TV experience
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Vizio 5.1.2 soundbar system has turned out to be an even better audio experience than I had expected. After getting a new 4K Apple TV and new TV I wanted to upgrade my audio and really wanted something with Dolby Atmos. However the systems offering Dolby Atmos were very expensive and it was difficult to justify the cost. After reading reviews for this Vizio, I purchased. Set up was very easy. The upward firing speakers in the soundbar bounce the audio off my ceiling which in and of itself make a huge difference over my old Bose Cinemate system. But it is the addition of the two small surround speakers that really make this system shine. The surround makes everything better, but when the audio source supports Dolby Atmos, the experience is amazing. In my mind there is no reason to spend more if your room is average size.

For the price it was the best in class
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Dolby Atmos Sound is amazing if you can find it on your shows and movies. Not many shows have it now but more and more are coming. The only dislike I had were the rear speakers were not wireless and the wires are not easy to hide where you need to put the rear speakers. The subwoofer is all you can bargain for as it is deep and thumpin.

Way better than expected
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was replacing an older AV amplifier with 2 big speakers, just to save some space and clean up a bit. But honestly, this system sounds even better. When it kicks in with the surround and subwoofer, it can be pretty shocking. I never got that with the 2 speaker setup with a lot more watts. It’s very clear too. I have a Vizio TV too, and this thing plugs directly into its HDMI port for control/pass through, and it just works! The TV automatically just started using the sound bar, and the TV remote automatically started controlling the sound bar, and I didn’t have to do anything. The Apple TV picked up the new sound system too and started doing the big Dolby Audio without me having to do anything either, except click on OK to switch to the new Dolby. I couldn’t be happier with this. Oh, it all powers on and off with the TV remote too. It’s like it just merged with the TV.

Great sounding less expensive set up
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A lot of bang for the buck. Compared to other systems that were up and running at the store the sound quality from this Vizio 5.1 was one of the best. Obviously you can spend more to get better sounding gear. Using this for our patio sound system and streaming music

Good system
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the vizio 5.1 system before this but the small sub was over boomy, very annoying. This 5.1.2 system is well worth the extra money over that one. Sub has no extra booming from bottoming out. Have not really tested Atmos out with actual 4k disks only streaming from Netflix and others. Will update this when actually test out the Atmos with 4k disk to fully hear the system. I got it on sale also, so that helps.

Great sound!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was really easy to set up and works really well with my Vizio television. Really nice that the Subwoofer is wireless and that the surround sound speakers connect with the subwoofer instead of the main sound bar. That way there’s not cords going across my room.

Great sound! One issue
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a really great sound bar. The surround feels good with things happening all around you. Not five stars because the ARC connection can be glitchy. Sometimes when turning on the TV it will “connect” but no sound comes out. I either have to turn it off and on again or cycle through the inputs to get sound. Otherwise, I’m very happy with the actual sound experience

Very good sound
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Flip, flang, flew...this is a great system. The sound is very very very good. Set up was okay. Takes a little know-how. I’m happy with the system overall but occasionally I have no sound and have to unplug and restart. Frustrating

Good system with some issues
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound quality, setup, price is all good, but with issues. Some channels of the soundbar take about a second to respond after an episode of absolute silence. This applies to the navigation clicks of a TV or console, silence between videogames scenes, sometimes the first second of a video or resuming it after a pause. I have even raised and lowered the volume of the soundbar but it wouldn't respond until a restart, counted times but it has happened in 5 days of owned. It is sad because the price gap between this system and another one a little bit better or similar is very very big. Besides this, the only thing I think would be needed to improve, are the height speakers for a better immersion experience. Subwoofer and rear speakers are okay. I am returning this system for these not so little details personally.

UPDATE LOOP ISSUE and Temporary Fix -
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First and foremost, DO NOT download the SmartCast app or try to connect this soundbar to WiFi until Vizio fixes whatever is wrong with their software/firmware. I've had this unit for less than a week so far, and twice now it got itself stuck in an updating loop where the LED lights on the left commonly show 7 solid and 1 blinking before all 10 light solid and then begin again at 1 blinking light, repeating this process endlessly (I "fixed" it - more on that below). The unit is totally unresponsive during this, and my initial interaction with tech support was to do all of these common steps that did absolutely nothing (that I'd already tried before calling) and then basically "we don't know so we're going to send you a replacement." I took matters into my own hands after that call and did some further internet research, stumbling across a Reddit thread with others having the exact same issue, even with their replacement units from Vizio. That's where it was determined it was an update loop problem. Now onto the steps I did to "fix" it - 1. Download the latest firmware onto a clean thumb drive (nothing else on the drive) that is FAT formatted. You must download, unzip/extract the file folder, and then drag the two separate files within the folder onto your clean thumb drive. https://support.vizio.com/s/article/Firmware-Information-3118?language=en_US 2. Unplug the unit from power, and insert the thumb drive into the unit's USB slot. Plug the unit back in. It will go back to where it was in the update loop. 3. Wait until all 10 LED lights are lit and hold down Power, Volume Up, and Volume Down on top of the unit at the same time - keep holding until you see the LEDs all flashing, even if it takes a minute (you're trying to catch the unit before it self-reboots the update cycle) and then let go only after the flashing lights happen. Done successfully, this will finally factory reset the unit. If you miss it, you must wait until this point happens again. 4. The bar should then turn back on and begin loading the update from the thumb drive. This will look mostly the same as the loop issue lights but it'll take about ~15 minutes or so and then the lights will flash to signify it is complete. 5. Hold down the Bluetooth and Volume Down buttons for a few seconds until the unit shuts off (I think the Power button was still unresponsive at this point and the unit didn't auto-reboot after the update). Let go and then remove your thumb drive. Can't remember if the unit powers itself back on or if you must press Power again at this moment. Either way, it should be working again once power is back on. I gave this bar 2 stars because as I said, I've had to do this twice now in less than a week and it's very frustrating to spend that much $$ to have annoying issues like this. I chose to delete the SmartCast app and all its data and not attempt to connect to WiFi this time around - I really hope that will fix the problem of the unit trying to auto-check for an update or whatever it does to get stuck like this, but I'll know in about 2-3 days (how often it seems to happen) and if it happens again I will be returning it and getting something else that isn't a Vizio product. I had called to share this info with a Vizio tech agent and they seemed grateful for the info, but cancelled my warranty replacement setup because at that time it was working again, so I assume that means if I were to keep this unit and have to submit another ticket that the tech will try to make me do all of those redundant steps again first for over an hour on the phone. All that said, when the unit IS working, it does sound pretty good (better than my previous soundbar) and I can see the green light when Atmos content is supposedlybeing decoded on Vudu or my Xbox One connected to the HDMI pass-thru (and HDMI ARC port on my LG TV). Although, I haven't heard much in the way of something sounding like it is "coming from above" with the upward-firing speakers. I have been adjusting the angle of the bar, and yes the Height speakers are set to On and I have a flat ceiling. I don't know if you can update a review on here once posted, but if I find out any further info after a few days (such as not connecting to the app or WiFi actually preventing the issue from recurring like I hope) then I'll try to add it to the book-length post above.

Good sound. Nice subwoofer. Atmos was mediocre
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty good sound and the wireless sub is surprisingly nice sounding for this price point. It’s not going to rumble your house but it definitely adds some punch and realism. Because I was not wowed by the overall sound with Atmos, and the price is fairly high for this item, I’m giving it 3 stars.
