    Love It

I've really enjoyed owning my new VIZIO tv. I got the 50" UHD M50-D1 model with the tablet for tv controls. Other than a few minor glitches, I thought the tv was as advertised. I use the tablet for changing picture settings. I am able to use the built in chrome cast. It works better than I thought after reading other comments. Which by the way really helped me make my decision. Bottom line is for the price and picture quality with all the extras, I'm really pleased.

Fantastic 4K HDR set for the price

The M50-D1 LCD screen features full array local dimming, or FALD. This is important because most television sets in this price range are edge lit, which simply doesn’t allow for the same level of lighting detail and nuance. The 32 active LED zones in this model (64 zones in other M series sizes) definitely contribute to this display’s excellent black-level performance. I streamed 4K HDR Dolby Vision Netflix shows like Daredevil, and the display performed above my expectations for a set at this price point. The picture quality here is fantastic. VUDU, Amazon Prime, and YouTube all also offer 4K HDR material that you can stream as well. The main function of a display is to bring video to life before your eyes, and for that simple take, you can get a set at a low price that’ll do the job. What is impressive here is that for $699.99, Vizio has an inexpensive model that will do so much more - this set dazzles the visual senses like no other at this price - and again, it even includes an Android tablet at that price as well! You really can’t go wrong here.

    worth the money.

i purchased this tv due to having experience with vizio tvs and the hdr capability and for people looking to game there is a firmware update that will install automatically to upgrade it to hdr 10. i read the reviews and alot of them are false or just personal preferences allowed people to dislike this tv. for the money its well worth it. the sound barely has any bass to it. but thats why you use a surround sound system or a sound bar. the picture quality is great. the tablet idea is kind of confusing at first but once you know where to go in the tablet for the fuctions that your looking for its easy and it really makes it simple to use. i wouldnt hook the tv up by wifi though. stick to a hardwire cable. and make sure you grab the 2.0 hdmi cables that are 4k compatible. the cords that come with the tv are standard and cheap. get some decent cords. after 2 and a half hours of set up for this tv i love it. and just for reference when your done with set up go to the vizio app on the tablet then click on cast devices and from there you can access all of your settings for the tv.

Awesome once you get used to ChromeCast

The Google ChromeCast-based tablet controller makes the new Vizio M50 surprisingly sophisticated and incredibly flexible. No longer are you reliant on streaming companies and other developers creating apps specifically for your smart TV, now you can grab any app that supports ChromeCast and you’re ready to go. Heck, you can even push content from the Google Chrome browser, which means if you can view it on your computer, you can watch it on your TV, but bigger, brighter and more beautiful. Note: Vizio supplied me with this TV so I could honestly and fairly assess and review it.

Great 4K TV With HDR Support for a Low Price

If you are like me and possibly have looked down at the Vizio brand in the past in favor of more expensive, well known brands, I can assure you that you can put your fears aside when it comes to the company's new SmartCast M-Series 4K UHD displays. I have been blown away by the level of quality packed into this very affordable 4K display, which comes loaded with future proof technologies that the big brands don't have yet (HDR10 and Dolby Vision support), and is close to half of the asking price of similar models by companies not called Vizio. The whole SmartCast system adds a new way to interact with your display, and makes the experience feel very familiar thanks to the inclusion of a 6" Android tablet remote. Luckily you can download and install the Vizio SmartCast app to your own iOS or Android device if you're not a fan of the included remote, or you can just use your current streaming hardware like the Amazon Fire TV, Roku, or an app enabled gaming console with one of the display's four HDMI ports. In terms of picture quality the SmartCast M-Series 50" outputs crystal clear UHD content that really looks vibrant thanks to the HDR10 and Dolby Vision support (content dependent). The picture is bright and lit uniformly thanks to the Full-Array local dimming technology it employs, so it looks good in both well lit and darker rooms. It really does offer next level display technology for an affordable price with a bit of future proofing built into it. The biggest downsides are the lack of HDMI 2.0 ports (only 1 included), and the lack of an OTA TV tuner, but there is hardware out there to make up for these omissions, albeit with a bit of cost being factored in to the overall asking price. Vizio has hit a homer with the SmartCast M-Series, and has made me change my tune on the brand moving forward. I can wholeheartedly recommend the 50" model, as it is the one I tested, but I have faith the larger models, or the slightly more expensive P-Series displays, will feature the same level of quality in bigger and better packages. I have learned my lesson, which is don't judge a tech company by its cover, because Vizio is more than just a brand for discount stores and frugal spenders. Plus they give you a free HDMI cable in every box, what other tech company does that!

    XBox One S issues

If you have an Xbox one S and the TV blinks every once in a while its the HDMI, switched mine from the one that came with the Xbox to the one that came with the TV and it works fine, also Vizio Customer service said you need a physical copy to run HDR, digital games aren't supported yet

    Awesome TV for Gadget Lovers

When VIZIO offered to send me this TV for free to review I looked at the specs and drooled. It's a great TV. I had no issues at all with setup. That went very smoothly. The picture is great and the features are awesome. I really love the 6" tablet remote. I only had a couple of problems with the TV. One is that one day it appeared to die, but it turned out that it was doing a firmware update without warning. The other is that I had to install the actual Google Cast app on the tablet to cast the Amazon Video app since Amazon does not have support for that built-in. Overall I am loving this TV.

    Excellent Intro into 4K television.

The picture is crisp and clear, the volume is sufficient without a soundbar, though I do recommend having one. This is just a display, so there are only HDMI, & USB inputs, no coaxial input. Comes with the tablet remote which I love because I can cast everything from the tablet or my phone, laptop, and computer. Also comes with a Standard remote for powering off and on, Volume, input, and video settings. The ratings for the clarity of the picture on the M-series are tied or above LG, Samsung, and Sony. The 55" gives you 64 backlit areas as opposed to the 32 on the 50". Honestly if my 50" was any brighter I'd have to wear sunglasses.

    Great TV for cord cutters

The VIZIO M50-D1 stands out for its ability to deliver an excellent picture quality for a relatively affordable price. The smart remote control that acts as a gateway to a limitless amount of content is very easy to get used to and so is the integrated support for Google Cast. The TV works best with streaming content such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Sling, Playstation Vue. Kids love casting contents directly from YouTube on the smartphone, all for free. (Note: we received a free review unit from Vizio in exchange for this honest review)

Not the best 4K HDR set avaialble

I bought this set because it seemed like a bargain. Good size for a good price, with good features. But the 4K and HDR quality were not very satisfactory. The quality of the image makes one question why not just get a 1080p set. And the tablet that serves for a remote seems like an unnecessary complication and is used more as a gimmick. The thought behind it was good, the design and tablet remote are quite refreshing, fixing the image quality would make this tv set a very appealing option.

Thanks for the feedback. A few things that might help you get the kind of picture quality you saw in the store. First, make sure the Display is getting a hi-definition signal. This means making sure that you're source device (like a cable/satellite box) is capable of HD, and that it's connected to your Display with an HDMI cable that can deliver the HD picture. You can also change between pre-set picture modes on the display by pressing the PIC button on your remote. This will toggle between a few picture setting that look good in different situations. If your display is in a bright room try Vivid or Calibrated. If it’s in a dimmer room try Calibrated Dark. VIZIO

Port one the ARC port that is also the hdr port did not run hdr content properly. The screen goes black every 5 minutes when hdr is on. Trading it in! I will give them one more chance before i just go with a new brand.
