Now (~1.5 yrs after purchase) the volume controls don’t work at all. Would prefer a regular battery option.

As a quick note, the Voice Remote Pro will last approximately 2 months under normal use. With that being said, normal use can widely vary from person to person. Utilizing private listening will typically drain the battery on your remote faster than when not being used.
As a tip, be sure to remind your mother to unplug the headphones when not in use—this will help to extend the battery life!

While normal use can vary from person to person, it's common to that remotes can last 6 months or more on a single charge, and others may last less than our 2 month average. This is commonly seen for heavy users or high power consumption actions.
For example, utilizing private listening will typically drain the battery on your remote faster than when not being used. As a tip, always be sure that you are unplugging your headphones when not in use as this will help to extend your battery life.
