You may try rebooting the system by disconnecting the AC power to the telephone base and batteries on the cordless handsets. Wait for 1 minute before reconnecting the AC power and batteries, then test the unit again. We went back to our old panasonic that had some of the numbers rubbed off. What we didn't like was the voice which you could not adjust for talking caller ID. It simply could not be understood. We don't use all the features. Not for old school folks like us.This phone is for people who want to use their cell at home. We could not understand the instructions for that either.

It is difficult to work the volume; you think you fixed the way you want and... nope. The answering machine is a joke. You must delete all messages or none. You cannot record your own message. VERY disappointed customer.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had these for 3 weeks and I'm very pleased with them. I had no issues with set-up. I printed out the relevant pages of the online manual & read through the procedure several times before starting and there were no surprises. I set the time once & it has not changed by itself as some users complain - I have to guess that they are not following the procedure correctly. I don't have a smart phone to pair with these phones so don't know about that function. I manually entered my phonebook. Everything I use is working fine. Volume (another area a few reviewers complain about) is quite acceptable, including on speaker and messages. I must say the statement of range is ludicrous! My house is 300 feet off the road, across a meadow, with no obstructions but one stone wall between the road and the base station. The first day I tested it & lost the signal less than halfway out to the road. Paradoxically the signal was strong for 100 feet through 3 walls in a different direction. The range is not an issue for me as I don't plan to need them outside. They do work through several stone walls all over inside the house, including down in the cellar which is something I was concerned about. The only things I would wish for would be for: 1) All the handsets to beep when there is a new message. If I've been out, I have to remember to go to the base station to check on that. 2) The set to use standard batteries you can buy anywhere rather than having to go to the manufacturer. I'm really glad I chose this set and that I finally got them. I had been looking at cordless phones for a long time but there are a lot of negative reviews about all of them. I don't see how you can go wrong with this set.

The unit has large buttons for dialing and an easy to see readout. Sound is very clear. The instructions that come with this are a little wonky with pictures and arrows, but anything you want to do or program can be found on the internet. As for the distance, a lot will always depend on where your base station is located. Mine is near a wall behind a steel garage door, but I still get reception at about 400 feet. I am sure the distance would increase with a more optimal placement of the base station.
