    Not a Steelbook. Came dented

This item is actually a metal pack version of War of the Worlds, not a steelbook. It came with a bunch of small dents and a loose disc.

It's hard to really review this disc, on one hand, it looks great and is a huge upgrade from the blu-ray. On the other hand, the audio isn't reference quality. I got no bass from this, overall if you don't care about audio this is worth picking up, if you do, I would say you can skip this one.

    Awesome movie-bad transfer

The movie itself is a good time but the transfer is something less desirable. Too dark, extremely grainy and blurry in some scenes. It seems like it might be a bootleg placed in the steelbook. I’d think about returning but I like the steelbook and it didn’t cost much.

Listing states it’s a steelbook it’s not. It’s a metalpak and the disc was loose. Movie isn’t even that good.

Has always been a great watch since released in 2005. Love the movie. My review is based on audio/video quality. Finally got around to purchasing the 4k based on all reviews of the atmos being stellar. IMO it's just ok. Dated surround and channel editing. Center dialogue not much clarity. Very flat and warm, but still audible. Bass has been reviewed as hard hitting but I found it just slightly above average. The movie does get loud though. Video quality shows it's age as well. Heavy film grain doesn't allow any 4k clarity to come through. Just doesn't seem "remastered" for 4k. If you have the bluray, then this is not a must own imo.

    Great package bad discs

First off, the movie is what it is. Lots of site for you to get reviews on the film itself. I wouldn't have bought this if I didn't like the film and want it to be a part of my collection. I am a huge Steelbook fan, so I was very excited to find out Paramount was releasing a bunch of catalog titles in Blu-ray Steelbooks. I bought this along with 4 others in the same trip to Best Buy on the first day of their release. I was very disappointed to realize that Paramount chose to only include the first of the two discs that make up this title's BD release in non-steelbook packaging. That means for longer titles you get no special features. No UV or digital copy, either. Very disappointing, but still didn't deter me.

I liked this movie, which is why I bought it. However, the 4K version of the movie doesn’t look that much better than the blu-ray copy. The movie is also in full-screen format, as opposed to the more theatrical-looking letterbox format. I would pass on this version, unless you want to see a minor increase in picture quality.

    War Won By Special Effects

I liked the special effects. I didn't like the graininess of the video. Lacks the charm and enchantment of the original 1953 version. This 2005 version of "War Of The Worlds" is heavy on the action and lean on the drama in contrast to the 1953 version which has an enjoyable balance of action and drama. This 2005 version is boring in comparison to the 1953 version.

Movie was really awesome in 4k. Great buy. Decent price. the Steelbook artwork was excellent. Only issue was the package it was mailed in. A poly bag that allowed the steelbook to get several dings sadly. Which means an average rating overal.

One of the better War of The Worlds remakes. Tom Cruise does his best to protect his family from the invading aliens. Great special effects set the various scenes. Looks really great in 4K.

Great movie, bad blu ray transfer

The movie is great but I bought the blu ray for clearer picture... what I got was a very grainy film. It may be what the director intended but I'm not a fan. Could've toned the grain down a little

It's strange. Some scenes look great, other scenes not so much. Almost grainy DVD quality. You'd think that you would get the best possible picture when buying a 4K movie, but not in this case.

It’s great for it’s day in 2004 but hard to not notice how dated it feels compared to today’s ultra hd blu ray discs with surround sound

Just wanted to give any other collectors a heads up.. this is listed as a “Steelbook”, but it is a MetalPak Edition. Learned the hard way when I ordered one.

Was disappointed the "Steelbook" is actually a Metalpak. It has the hinges which I do not like. I was it was in the description or had a picture.

The 4K upgrade is really good however there’s nothing new here to explore. The first 20 minutes of the film are the most interesting.
