These filters really do filter the water, and the filter is easier to install if you turn off the water to the fridge.

We have a lot of iron in our water especially in the spring during snow melt. This filter eliminates the iron taste. The water tastes great.

The filter is just fine. I've had many of them over five years of the refrigerator from Samsung. After about two years with a Samsung refrigerator, it started to leak. The ice maker broke next because it's made of PLASTIC (freezing and plastic don't last). Then it started to leak into the freezer. Doh! I contacted fix it people and the vendor. Basically I have to buy a new refrigerator as Samsung's are known to fall apart after 2 years. The fix it mechanics said the refrigerator wasn't even worth fixing after 2 year. Buyer beware - If you buy a Samsung refrigerator. Know you will be replacing it after 2 years or be like me cleaning up water and plastic peaces all the time. Friggin Samsung.
